Chapter 729: Mission Pavilion Part 2
"Sect master…." Elder Ning walked into the immortal cave at the peak of the mountain. It was where the sect master lived.
"Elder Ning, what's wrong?" The sect master was currently trimming a small bonsai tree to relax his nerves.
"Duan Shinjian is dead. He ran into Kana with some of his followers, and well, you know how he is." Elder Ning answered with a sigh. He did not wish to deal with the Duan family as they were one of the ancient families.
"Just some Daun family. What is there to be worried about. When they come calling, I will handle it. For now, make an example of those who were with him. We need to make sure the disciples know that they are not allowed to start anything with Kana." The sec master replied. The entire time, he did not look up once from his bonsai tree.
"As you wish." Elder Ning could only let out another sigh. He hoped things would go over smoothly.
While Elder Ning was rushing back towards Kana's direction, word of Kana killing Daun Shinjian had already spread throughout the outer sect. Kana had become the most feared disciple among the weaker disciples and had now become a target for those who were stronger. They now saw her as a threat to their positions in the sect's Elite boards. This was something some would not and could not allow.
"Senior Brother Ming, what do you think?" A young man asked as he walked over to the open air pavilion.
"This Kana is not someone to take lightly. I hear she has the support of the sect master and is getting special treatment. If we wish to subdue her and make her realize she is beneath us, we will need to do so properly. Send her a challenge. I want to see if she is as strong as the rumors say." Another young man with long black hair and a chiseled, handsome face replied. He was Senior Brother Ming, Ming Xiafan. He was currently holding the tenth spot on the leaderboards that only should the top ten outer sect disciples.
"But if you lose…." The young man was worried he had heard this Kana was very strong.
"Win or lose is yet to be decided. I do not mind giving up my spot to those who are stronger than me." Ming Xiafan replied. He looked rather relaxed as he spoke, as if he did not care about the outcome. But in truth, he did not like being overshadowed by others.
"Then I will do as Senior Brother says and send in the challenge." The young man was still not too sure about all of this but seeing his senior brother was fine with any kind of outcome. He decided to keep his thoughts to himself.
It was not just Ming Xiafan but some of the other top ten who were starting to wonder if they should make a move and try to put Kana in her place. And as for Kana, the oblivious target, she had just arrived at the mission pavilion. "So this is where you take out missions…."
Kana looked around curiously at all the boards that were there and wondered what kind of missions he should take. The mission pavilion was one of the busiest areas of the sect due to the disciples trying to get as many contribution points as possible. Even though they knew taking missions would be dangerous, they still took them on. Some would die while out on a mission, whether by demonic beast, by accident, or worse, at the hands of a devil cultivator. They still tried their luck to take on whatever mission they could.
Kana looked around until she saw a board that was not as busy and walked over to it. There were only a few disciples at this board, and there was a good reason for it. This board was meant for those who felt they had real ability. This was the board where the mission rewards were the greatest, but the danger of the missions was the highest. Kana looked at the board and spotted one at the top. "This is…. Kill the Wind King Ape of Mofu Mountain…. Mofu? Strange name for a mountain…. Anyway, the reward is one hundred thousand contribution points."
Not even thinking about anything else, she reached up and took it. The others around her stared at Kana in disbelief. "Uh, Junior sister, it would be best if you didn't take that mission." A young woman suddenly said. She couldn't stand by and watch Kana run off to her death.
"Huh, why? It's just an ape?" Kana was confused. She didn't understand what the big deal was.
"The Wind King Ape is a demonic beast that is close to becoming a divine beast. It has killed many disciples. Also, Mofu Mountain is not a friendly place. At first glance, it looks like a calm jungle mountain, but there are many deadly poisonous demonic beasts that roam the forest, and you have to go through the forest to get there." The girl replied.
Kana thought for a moment and figured it would be fine now that she had her elements, even if they drew on spiritual qi to be used. "I should be okay. Thank you for the warning."
The young woman could only sigh as she watched Kana take the mission and walk over to register it. She could only shake her head, knowing she would probably never see this junior sister again.
When Kana walked up to the counter, she placed the mission post on it before taking a step back in order to not harm the person behind it. Luckily her death element did not merge into the mission post. The old man behind the counter found Kana's actions somewhat odd. He wondered if he smelled bad today or something. He sniffed a few times but smelt nothing off, so he could only think that maybe Kana was shy. But when he picked up the mission post, his eyes went wide, and looked up at Kana once more. "Girl, are you sure you want this mission? You may never come back."
