Chapter 424: The Past That Started It All Part 2
The young girl quickly looked around her, searching for the assassin the guard was yelling about. Just her actions alone caused the crowd who was watching to chuckle. They might have been surprised by the little girl's ability, but in the end, she was still just a little girl while the guard was a guard. How could a little girl overtake so many grown men?
But even if it was the case that the little girl was a little girl and the guard was a guard. The little girl was still surrounded. Seeing this, the little girl frowned and slowly spoke as she asked: "What wrong have I committed for you to surround me like this?"
"You destroyed my sword! And did not heed to the law of not standing in the way of His Majesty's carriage. By doing so and showing aggression towards me, doesn't that mean you are an assassin?" The guard tried to make his words sound righteous, as if he was doing everything for the king. He never noticed the strange looked he was getting from the other guards.
"Are you stupid?" The little girl asked. She wondered why this person was allowed to protect a king with such low intelligence.
"Huh?" The guard was once again confused by the little girl's question. He wondered why the little girl was asking him if he was stupid.
"I asked if you are S.T.U.P.I.D! You attacked me first, and when I protected myself, you called me an assassin. How is defending my own life trying to kill anyone? If you had not attacked me in the first place, instead of trying to do your job properly, you would not be standing there with your mouth open looking like an idiot." The little girl sneered at the man and turned to walk away, but the guards were still surrounding her. She wanted to resolve things peacefully so she could start a new life in this new place without attracting too much attention to herself, but it seems that her original plan had failed. "I will give you five seconds to move."
"1..."
"2..."
"3..."
"Stand down..." A melodic voice came from inside the carriage, grabbing everyone's attention.
The guards and even the little girl looked towards the carriage to see a handsome man with two horns on his head and a thin tail with an arrow shaped tip step out of the carriage. His long black hair swayed slightly as she landed lightly on the ground. He walks past the guards, his gaze sizing up the little girl. "Little one, what is your name?"
The little girl looked at the man and did not answer right away. But after some thought, she said: "Kana."
"Hmmm? Kana huh? Surname?" The handsome man asked.
"None. I just go by Kana." Kana replied. She did not feel any malice coming from the man, so she did not give him an attitude.
"Kana, is it? This is a good name. My name is Ar'en. Kana, please take this as a token of apology for my guards' behavior, and also, I thank you for not killing them." Ar'en smiled at Kana as he held out a bag of gold to her.
Kana was not shy in the least as she reached out her little hand and grabbed the bag out of the man's hand. She then bowed her head and said: "Thank you…."
"Mmm... Good! Haha!" Ar'en let out a laugh as he turned towards his guards. "Get back in line. You will all be undergoing stricter training when we get back."
Kana watched as Ar'en boarded his carriage once more. This time she did not stand in the way. She clutched the bag of gold in her hand and stood to the side. After the carriage left, the streets once again became bustling with people. And Kana, who now had enough money to get around for a while, took a look at her current self and decided to get washed up, a trim, and some new clothes.
At this time, the two, Kana and Ar'en, did not know that their lives would intertwine over and over as the years went on. Kana also had no idea that the man she met this day would one day help her exact the revenge she sought after.
For now, Kana's main objective was to do a bit of shopping. But before any of that were to happen, she had to fill her stomach. She walked over to a roadside stall that was selling skewers. "Four please..."
"Hehe... I saw what you did earlier, little girl. You are really impressive. Give me a few minutes, and I will cook you up some of my special skewers."The man tending to the stall said.
"Mm… Thank you." Kana felt that this place was already much better than the human territory.
After a couple of minutes, the stall owner came over and handed Kana five skewers. "Eat them while they are hot lass. That is when they taste the best."
Kana nodded and took the skewers, but when she saw there were five, she looked at the man and said: "Sir, I only asked for four…."
"Haha! It's fine. These skewers are on the house. You stood up to those overbearing guards. To me, you're a hero so treating a hero to a few skewers is a good thing." The man said with a big smile.
Kana was stunned and stared at the man for a few seconds before finally reaching up and taking the skewers. "Thank you..."
"No need. But I do think you will need some help soon because It seems you have gained a bit of popularity." The stall owner pointed behind Kana, causing her to turn around. Surprisingly there were a bunch of stall owners filling up a table with different kinds of food and drinks. "Go. They are doing this to show their appreciation. Some of these people have had their relatives die due to those guards. The king himself is a good man and rules fairly but those guards act unruly giving the King a bad name. Since you were able to put those same guards in their place today it is like each and every person who has suffered due to them was able to get a bit of revenge in."
