Chapter 411: Star Hopper
A month passed, and the workers building Kana's new house worked quickly. Even quicker than that was Eie. After working both Kana and Creige to the bone forging parts, she had finally created, with Kana's help, a machine that could create a dimensional gate to some unknown place. They had also created a few fail safes, such as a shield to stop any incoming traffic. As for tools to investigate what was on the other side and make sure the world on the other side of the gate was safe, they had created a few drones that had instruments that would take a reading before they decided to venture over there.
Of course, no one could actually go alone without Kana. Otherwise, no one would be able to get back. Luckily even if the world had no magic on it, they could still explore it since Kana could use her divinity to create a path back home.
Currently, in the huge underground lab full of all kinds of equipment, Kana, Eie, Creige, the girls, Dandan, and Camlia were all standing in front of the massive device. It resembled a certain star gate from a show back on Earth that Eie used to watch all the time. She had even made a dialing device so that she could use different wavelengths to try to connect to different dimensions instead of just one.
"So, what are you calling it?" Kana asked.
"Mmm… I was thinking just Dimensional Gate, but it seems a bit lackluster, so I was thinking The Super Amazing Spatial Star Hopper!" Eie
"We can just call it Star Hopper." Kana announced. "It's easy to say and remember."
"Booo! No fun!" Eie pouted but quickly regained her energy as she said: "Now then, the drones I made will fly through the gate and tell us the composition of the air on the other side. After we confirmed the air and landing point are safe, we can then make our first trip through the gate. I would have added in the ability to know our current location in our universe, but I am not sure if this universe is the same as our last.
"So, in order to get a better understanding of where we will be actually going, the drone will have an instrument on it to pinpoint its own location and send this data back to me here so It can create a 3D display of how far apart we are. This will give us an idea if we are going to different worlds within our universe or if we are going to a completely different dimension." Eie went on to explain each function for the land crawler she had also created to act as a station for them to carry things or science experiments.
"So when can we actually fire this thing up?" Camlia asked. She was quite interested in checking out some other world.
"We can fire it up now, but we should prepare ourselves ahead of time." Eie answered. She was really hoping that maybe one day she will find a back to Earth. It was the only reason she worked so hard creating this machine.
"Mama, can we go too?" Rain asked with big pleading doe eyes.
Kana smiled and rubbed her head. "Of course, our first trip through the gate will be a family event."
Kana was not worried that anything would happen to her babies, with Creige, Camlia, Dandan, and herself there to keep an eye on things, not to mention Yana's blood mode. Kana called it a blood mode because the change in her body was due to her having Camlia's blood flowing through her veins. Even Kana was not sure if she could fight Yana head on while she was in that mode.
"Yay! We can go too!" Rain and Angelica yelled out happily. Yana just stood there with a smile on her face as she watched the two. This was not to say she wasn't excited as well. It was just how Yana was since she got her special system. She was just quiet and did not like to stand out. But she still loved her family very much.
"Okay, all the preparations are set. I locked in the wavelengths I will use for this first run and see where it brings us." Eie announced as she pressed a button on the machine in front of her. The whole room began to shake as the Star Hopper's outer rim began to turn. As it hit certain points, a sound signaled from the machine that it had locked in that wavelength. After about five minutes, all the wavelengths were locked in.
The room began to shake even more violently, shaking all the equipment along with it as a bright light shined from the center of the Star Hopper, spreading out slowly until reaching the inner rim and stabilizing. The bright light dimmed, allowing everyone to see that a swirling greyish liquid now filled the center of the star hopper. "The path is now open! From here, I will send in a drone with a camera feed to test the air. As long as everything works as it should, we should see a camera feed on the big screen over here."
"Here it goes!" Eie set up the drone and sent it through the Star Hopper. There was nothing but static on the big screen for almost five minutes. Eie was starting to become anxious because not even the instruments were providing any data. She hoped the first run was not a dud. But just as she was about to cancel it, Angelica yelled out: "There! The picture changed!"
On the screen was an image of a pink sky. But it soon changed as the drone looked around more to show a strange forest with a large mountain range off in the distance. So far, they could not see any kinds of monsters or anything, just trees, and the pink sky, but that was not to say that there were not any. "I am getting the test back. It seems the air quality is good. We should be able to go to this place without issue."
