Chapter 111: Academy Test Part Three
Kana did not draw her sword. She only stood there looking at the instructor, who was now sweating buckets. He couldn't understand why the hero of Rural was being so petty! He did apologize, and the girl did not get hurt, so he really could not understand why he was being punished!
Looking at the man across from her, whose facial expression continued to change one after the other, made Kana chuckle on the inside. She did not plan to actually hurt the man. She just wanted to teach him a lesson so he will be more restrained from hurting others. Kana hopped up and down a few times before smiling brightly at the instructor and yelling: "Here I come!"
*Bang!*
The ground under Kana's feet shattered and sunk almost two meters as she stomped her foot into the ground and disappeared from the instructor's sight. Seeing her disappear, the instructor's face fell. He quickly went into a defensive stance and tried his best to detect where she was coming from, but all he heard was a soft giggle before he felt a flick on his forehead and was sent flying across the arena. Yes, Kana only used a simple forehead flick to send the instructor, who was already powerful for his age, flying.
The instructor braced himself. He knew he was about to smash into the arena's wall, and he knew most of the bones in his body would end up crushed. He could only grit his teeth and close his eyes as he waited for the inevitable impact. But just before he hit the wall, his nose was filled with a floral scent, and he felt as if he was floating in the air. He wondered if he had died and was now soaring through the heavens.
"How long are you going to make me keep carrying you?" A familiar voice filled his ears, and then a sudden feeling of falling before pain shot through his butt as his body hit something hard.
The instructor finally opened his eyes to find that he had actually not died but was lying on the ground of the arena. Standing next to him was the tanned beauty, the hero of Rural! The instructor almost burst into tears, knowing that the hero of Rural actually saved him!
"From now on, make sure you pay attention to how much strength you use. Just because you are excited doesn't mean you should actually go all out. If I was not here to save my friend earlier, she would have been seriously hurt." Kana left these words before jumping from the arena back into the stands and sitting down next to Kiliffia, who was now awake and full of spirit once again. She reached over and picked up her tail and laid it in her lap as she slowly began fluffing it.
'So relaxing!'
Kiliffia did not have any serious wounds and woke up almost right away before even reaching the medical wing of the arena. She even hopped off the stretcher and ran back to her seat to watch Kana forehead flick the instructor.
The bear man who was overseeing everything gave Kana an appreciative look. He knew his instructor was in the wrong. He had expected that he would end up getting thrashed but instead Kana only flicked his forehead to give him a warning. Not only that, she kept him from sustaining any injuries.
The battles went on, and the hours passed by. The sun soon set high in the sky. Bear man and the instructor were both now in the middle of the arena, looking over the results, before finally coming to a decision about who would be passing this portion of the test.
The bear man took the final list and faced the stands. He gazed at all the hopeful expressions looking back at him and smiled: "Every year, we hold this test to bring in new students so we can nurture their talents and allow them to grow even more. As you know, ten of the one hundred here have already been sent home. Out of this list, there are only fifty who will advance to the next round. Even if you did not make it this time around, remember this one thing. Train harder this coming year and come back and try your luck once more. If you failed, that just means you must work harder. If you truly wish to better yourselves show us what you are made of.
"I will now announce the ones who will be going to the next test. Kana, Kiliffia, Grisali..." The bear man went down the list of names. After naming the last name, those who did not make it all had downcast expressions, while those who did were happy and celebrating. Unfortunately, those who were celebrating now would soon realize that they were jumping for joy a little too soon.
Kana, on the other hand, was busy trying to calm the overly emotional Kiliffia down as she cried tears of happiness. All the tension Kiliffia had was washed away when she heard her name called, causing her to break down in tears. Kana gently patted her back with a warm smile on her face. Even Kana was surprised at Kiliffia's ability. But more than anything, she could tell how hard Kiliffia had worked.
Clearing his throat, the bear man yelled out: "For those who have passed the next and final part of the test is to spend seven days inside a Magical Realm. You will need to survive during this time on your own. No outside items may be taken in, except the clothes on your back and a token provided by the academy. This means no weapons. You will be scanned before entering the realm. Alright, everyone, gather and follow me! We will now head to the portal room!"
"Goddess Kana, will we be okay!?" Kiliffia was once again becoming worried as she rubbed her red puffy eyes.
Kana let out a light laugh as she scratched Kiliffia 's ears. "Don't worry. We will be just fine. When I was first born, I spent my time deep in the woods killing monsters for food. So we'll be fine."
"Then I will follow Goddess Kana's lead!" Kiliffia said with a bright smile, feeling less nervous.
