Chapter 425: The Past That Started It All Part 3
Ten years passed, and the little girl was no longer a little girl. She woke up in her usual inn room that the owner of the inn let her stay in for free. This came about when Kana saved the inn owner's daughter. Ever since she arrived in this city all those years ago, Kana had learned what the kindness of strangers felt like. Her cold blooded aura had mostly faded away. She, of course, did not stop working towards her goal just because she had settled into the small city on the outskirts of the demon's domain. Every day she would head out and kill monsters that roamed nearby. It not only allowed her to gain strength but also brought her some income.
After getting dressed, Kana rushed out of her room and headed downstairs. When the owner saw Kana running around barefooted yet again, she couldn't stop herself from yelling out. "Kana, put some shoes on! You're beautiful enough as it is, don't let people see your feet!" Kana paused at the door that she was just about to step out of and pursed her lips. She took a few steps back and put on her boots before running out the door.
Every morning she had a ritual. That was to buy her most favorite thing in the world, meat. "Master! Thirty meat skewers!"
"Haha! Little lass, because of you, I have been able to stay in business all these years." The stall owner said with a bright smile.
"Master, don't tease me. I have seen how busy you are. It is because your meat tastes so good that people come and buy your food." Kana's lips curled up into a smile, exposing her dimples.
"It is because you eat here that people come. You are the savior of our city. Not only do you help everyone out when you can, but you are also keeping the monster population down so low that even the kids can go outside the walls now to play." The stall owner was not lying. Kana had not realized it, but she was helping so many people that everyone saw her as the idol of their city, someone they looked up to. As such, any place she shopped at would end up getting more business.
"Oh..." Kana's cheeks reddened. She did not expect people to think so highly of her. "Sadly, I will be leaving soon..."
"Oh? Time for you to finally move on?" The stall owner asked. He was glad he had been saving up all the money he earned these past ten years. He should have retired long ago, but he stayed open just for this little girl.
"Yeah. I have things I still need to do. Now that I am older and have the ability to do more, I have to continue my quest for strength. I plan to leave in a week." Kana continued to talk with the stall owner for a while before finally heading outside the city.
Kana spent almost all day outside the city. She had to travel further and further away from the city to find any monsters. After draining a few monsters of their life force and using it to strengthen herself, Kana would kill one monster normally and bring it back to sell. But on this day, Kana felt something wrong as she got closer to the city. She sniffed the air, and a familiar scent filled her nose. "Smoke? Blood!"
Kana tossed down the monster she was carrying and flapped her wings. She flew up into the sky and raced towards the city. Plums of smoke and the smell of death filled the air. She hovered over the city to see a human army killing, looting and doing other unspeakable acts. Kana's ruby red eyes glazed over. She didn't understand. Why is it whenever she finds a place she calls home, these humans come and destroy it all? Why do they keep destroying the places she holds dear!? Why? Why!? Whhhyyy!? "Ahhhh!!!!!!!!!!!"
Kana let out a scream. She felt as if she was being stabbed millions of times in the heart over and over. She looked around to see the inn she was living in ablaze. She rushed forward and crashed into the building, looking for the inn owner and her daughter. But what she found made her want to puke. "Sick scum!"
Lying in a heap on the floor surrounded by fire was the inn owner and her daughter. Their appearance was unspeakable. Kana's eyes began to water up as she walked over to them as the fire surrounding her was singeing her hair and burning her skin. She tidied up the bodies as best she could before standing back up and bowing her head: "In these past ten years, you have treated me kindly as if I was your own family. Do not worry, I will exact revenge on these bastards for you."
Kana walked out of the burning build and flew up into the air. All she heard were the cry of the citizens who were either being killed or worse. The humans did not care for what they were doing. They acted more like demons than actual demons. A strong surge of power welled up inside Kana. Her ruby red eyes slowly turned to a greyish color. Her white hair fluttered in the winds of the power surging out of her body. At that instant, it was like time had stopped. Kana hovered in the air gazing around her. A circular bubble death element formed around her. This bubble began to expand further and further out until the entire area for tens of kilometers around the city was enclosed within.
Kana's grief had fully taken control. Her eyes lowered until they closed. She pictured the smiles of all the people of this town, causing her heart to ache, knowing they had all died unjustly. Such kind people had been killed for no reason. Out of all the people she had met, besides the ones from her clan, they had treated her like family, and now…
Kana slowly opened her eyes that were glowing with a slight grey haze. "I am death and death is me…."
*Boom!*
