Chapter 512: Five Years
"Her condition is borderline. Luckily you brought her in as quickly as you did. If you waited too much longer, she would have gone crazy with blood lust." The doctor explained as he gave Kana his report on Bell.
"She will be okay, right? Is there any way to fix her cravings?" Kana asked. Her worry was clearly visible on her face.
Mike looked at Kana, who was truly acting like a proper mother, and sighed. He felt his sister was very lucky to have someone who cared for her like this. This meant that his sister was well loved as she grew up. "Kana, half breeds will always have cravings, but they are able to be suppressed with the correct medicine and proper blood intake. I will be sure she has all the proper items she needs to live a long and fulfilling life."
Kana looked at Mike and glared at him. "What do you mean by that? Are you saying my daughter has to stay in this kingdom for the rest of her life!?"
"Kana, if you really do plan to take Bell away from this kingdom, the likelihood she will turn into a vampire driven by bloodlust is almost a certainty. My guess up until now, she has been drinking your blood, right? I can only assume this because you don't seem like one who would allow her to drink animal blood since you do not know if it is clean or not. Not with how protective you are of her. She can not keep drinking your blood. She will end up dependent on it, and you will not be able to keep her from sucking you dry when the time comes that she loses herself." Mike explained. He did not want to keep his sister locked up either, but it was too late for her. She will need to live in the kingdom where she can continue to get the medication she needs.
Kana frowned. She looked over at Bell, who just walked out of the room, and sighed. She hated to admit it, but Mike was right. Bell needed a place she could live without worry. This issue was that Kana had this feeling deep down inside her that she did not belong here. That she needed to keep moving and find a way to unlock her lost memories. Since the day she woke up, she had wondered just who she was. And recent events have made this feeling of wanting to know to grow stronger. But staying inside a kingdom and living out her days was not going to help with this. She had to continue traveling and exploring new places and hoped that by doing so, it will trigger something in her mind.
Kana let out a long sigh. She knew she could not bring Bell… But she did not trust Mike just yet. "I give you five years. Five years to prove to me that you will never harm my daughter. Brother or not, Bell is still my daughter even if we are not blood related."
"Then I will give it my all to prove to you that I will cherish Bell and that I will never let any harm come to her." Mike lowered his head. For a king to lower his head to someone of no status was one way to show how serious he was, but Kana just snorted and crossed her arms across her chest. King or not had nothing to do with anything when it came to Bell.
"Mama?" Bell walked up and saw something was off.
"We will talk more later. Let's head to the castle for now." Kana did not wish to talk anymore about Bell's personal life in public. She did, however, have many questions to ask Mike about how he will handle certain things. And what exactly happened to Melinda.
The trip back to the castle was quite long. The castle itself stood in a shroud of mist that blocked those from outside from seeing what the castle truly looked like. On the outside, it looked like a small, simple castle without much to see, but once you passed the barrier shrouding the castle in its illusion, what stood before you was a grand castle that towered above all. It was said this castle was first built over one hundred thousand years ago and still looked the same as it did when it was first built. The whole building was pure white, not something you would expect of a vampire's castle, but it was still very majestic.
Mike had given directions to one of the servants to treat Bell as if she was him and to give her a guided tour of the castle. He knew Kana still had more to say to him, so he brought Kana to a small garden with a table and had some drinks and snacks prepared. After sitting down, he said: "Anything you wish to know, you may ask. I will not hide anything."
Kana nodded and got straight to the point. "What happened to Melinda? All I know is that she was taken away. At that time, Melinda was doing everything she could to protect Bell, and in the end, even after I told her I could protect the both of them, she still decided to go with the men who came to take her away. So explain to me what is going on."
Mike sighed and nodded his head. "Melinda, my mother. Is a thousand year old vampire. A few hundred years ago, she had killed the reigning king, placed me on the throne, and then disappeared. During that time was dark days for this kingdom. The ruler at that time, my father, was a tyrant. He sucked the blood of humans and demi humans, turning people into vampires left and right. He fathered thousands of kids and would not let a single one step into the castle. Because of this, a revolt happened. Many died, and the kingdom was almost lost. But my mother, Melinda, wanted an end to it all. My father became abusive and would hit both her and me. In the end, she lost it and ended up killing him by ripping his heart out and crushing it.
"I sent people out to find her and searched far and wide. For hundreds of years, I had no luck. But those who did not wish for me to be on the throne also sent people out to search for her. Those were the ones who had found her. They acted in ways unbefitting my kingdom and caused much grief wherever they went. Once I got wind of this, I captured them and killed them all. Sadly this was all done under my nose, and until I got wind of them finding my mother, did I look deeper into this faction and find out all these things I am telling you now.
"But this was just the start. I have no idea what they gave her on the way back, but when I saw my mother, she seemed to have gone insane. She lashed out at me and everyone who got near. I think they wanted to use her to kill me. In the end, she ended up taking her own life.
"After interrogating the men who found her before killing them all, I found out that she had a daughter, so I sent my own people out to investigate and hopefully find her. Some of which did not return, which I do not blame you for as you were just trying to protect her.
"The reason I said she was executed when Bell was there is because I did not wish her to know her mother went insane, and I did not wish to let the world know what really happened. I will tell Bell that mother was assassinated by a faction that supported the tyrant king. This should at least keep her from knowing her mother killed herself after going crazy.
"I can say that the faction who was responsible for all of this is now gone. I took them out as soon as I figured out who was behind it all. So I can publicly and openly declare Bell as my sister as crown princess of Fandel putting her authority only just below mine. I will also put all my most loyal guards at her side. This way no harm will ever come to her. And if you do not believe me about the previous king you can ask around. There are even books about it in the royal library which you were at today." Mike explained.
"I see… That is sad to hear as Melinda was a warm caring woman." Kana sighed. She never thought that she would find out that Melinda ended up taking her own life and even tried to kill the current king. As for whether Mike was lying to her or not she would just need to keep a close eye on him for the time being. She gave him five years to prove himself. During this time she will find out if he is as he says.
