Chapter 249: Escape
[AN: Bomus Chapter 4/7]
"Is this the place?" Tia asked as both she and Kiliffia came to a large warehouse near the dock on the far side of town.
"From all the information we have gathered since we got here, this should be the place. " Kiliffia answered. They had found a concealed spot near the entrance as soon as they arrived. From what they could see, there were only two guards, but this did not mean the entrance did not have other forms of protection. "Let's sit here for a while and watch. There doesn't seem to be any kind of patrol, and I doubt there would be if they were trying to keep everything secret."
"Sounds boring..." Tia complained in a low voice. The task was indeed boring. No one would want to sit and watch a place non stop. It was a very tedious task.
"That it does." Kiliffia nodded her head agreeing.
The two stayed hidden from morning to noon. Tia had already taken up a position of resting her head on Kiliffia's back. Although she was resting, she did not dare fall asleep. She kept her eyes open and was listening for any movement. The only time she lifted her head was when the guard shift was changed.
When the evening sun began to drop behind the horizon, Kiliffia saw the guards on duty leave, but no guards showed back up to take their shift. The two girls were far enough away, so there was no way they could have been spotted by any humans and had a good eye on anyone or thing coming and going on the only road that led to this warehouse. "Did they leave early?"
This was the question on both their minds. Tia and Kiliffia both looked at each other, not daring to move just yet. They continued watching just in case more guards showed up. Not long later, not only did more guards showed up buy about three hundred men came as well. "Is this the last batch for this training facility?"
"Yes, you guys just need to make sure no one enters. Here sign this. I do not want the higher ups thinking we did not do our jobs."
"Yeah, yeah… Here you go."
"Let's hope we can move out soon. We have been preparing for this for a while now."
"Haha, it would be nice to raid some of those beastkin villages. I got a soft spot for those beastkin girls."
"Humph. Just get rid of any off spring that comes of your sick hobbies."
"Yeah yeah, I am not stupid. I do not want to raise anything. I just want to have fun. Plus, my wife would beat me if I kept anything they gave birth to."
"Your wife is another strange one for letting you indulge in that shit. Well, seeing how you two have been happily married for ten years with five kids, I guess it is not too bad."
"Yep, she is a keeper, that is for sure. Haha!"
Tia and Kiliffia both frowned, hearing the conversation of the human men as they watched the group of men enter the building. They finally got to see what was on the other side. It was nothing more than a stairwell leading down. Such a big building was built to hide a small stairwell.
"Let's go. We do not need to stay here anymore since we confirmed what we needed." Kiliffia said as she and Tia began to slowly back away. Unfortunately, they did not notice a small sound maker trip line when they had first arrived or since they had been sitting there.
*Rattle!* *Rattle!*
*Rattle!* *Rattle!*
"Who's there!?" The men by the door yelled out.
"Quickly, let's go!" Kiliffia yelled. She grabbed Tia's hand and began running.
"Stop them!"
Kiliffia had no idea where these men came from but suddenly behind her were ten men with bows firing arrows directly at them. Some were even casting magic. The two had no choice but to use their speed to their advantage as they continued to run as fast as they could.
They raced out of the dock area and out onto the main streets. But they did not get far when they suddenly ran into a familiar face. "Halt!" This was the same guard that had been following them not too long ago.
Of course, just because they were told to halt did not mean that they were going to. Kiliffia and Tia quickly made their way towards the main gates of the town. They could hear bells going off all around them."To think one noisemaker was enough to cause such a scene!" Kiliffia couldn't help but complain. She had never expected such a situation to occur, even after sitting in the same spot the entire time for an entire day.
They continued to run as fast as they could, zig zagging between houses small buildings trying to throw off their pursuers. It was not until they had run for about thirty minutes did they finally catch a breath in a back alley. "What should we do now?
"I am not sure. We can not go back to the inn. And I think they have already locked down the city." Kiliffia knew they messed up. They should have been extra careful and made sure to check every inch of their surroundings.
*Clink!*
A noise by their feet startled the two girls as they looked down. But what they saw was two long ears and a dirty face of a rabbit girl poke her head out. "If you two wish to escape from here come this way."
"Why are you willing to help us?" Kiliffia asked. She was not going to just follow anyone just because they asked her to.
The rabbit girl wrinkled her brow as she looked at the two human girls as she said coldly: "It's not me who wants to help you. I would just let two humans rot and die with their own mistakes but my father told me to. So hurry up and get in here before people find you! Or do you wish to be caught by those men?"
