Chapter 510: Half Breeds
Kana had no idea why she was suddenly crying. She kept wiping her tears one after the other. All she knew was that she felt a pang in her heart when she saw the cat girl. She did not know if she knew this cat girl or what but just seeing her was making her cry.
That cat girl who was cuddled up in a pile of books slowly opened her eyes to see a young girl standing in front of her desk crying. She picked up the pair of glasses that she had lying next to her and put them on. "Meow's okay? Did something meow?"
Hearing the strange way of talking slowly calmed Kana down. She did not know why but she felt that she never knew this girl at all. Taking a deep breath and calming her tears, Kana bowed her head slightly in apology. "Sorry about that display there."
The cat girl looked at Kana with a puzzled look but did not dig further. "Then meow can I help you?"
"I need a book about half breed vampires if you have one." Kana Figured it would be best to ask for this specific topic first since she wasn't sure if regular vampires have the same condition.
"Meow breed vampires… Let's see... " The cat girl tapped on what looked to be a screen made with magic that had data on it. This screen caught Kana's attention. She once again began having a nostalgic feeling. But before she could put a finger on it, the cat girl broke her train of thought. "Meow can find books on meow breed vampires in section eight on the third floor. But these meows can not be taken out, though. So meow will need to read them meow."
Kana scratched her head. She wondered if the cat girl knew she was saying meow in place of other words. Luckily she knew what she was talking about, or she would not have understood. "Thank you." Kana bowed her head in thanks this time before heading to the third floor.
It did not take Kana long to find what she was looking for. The entire row the cat girl told her about was filled with books about half breeds. She ran her finger along the books on the shelves as she read each title, only stopping to read books that seemed like they fit. After twenty minutes of searching, she finally found the book she was looking for. She walked over to a table and sat down to begin reading.
"Let's see..." For half breed vampires born from one vampire and another race, they are cursed with the thirst for blood once they reach a certain age. This differs for vampires who are born between a vampire and another vampire. The actual cause of this phenomenon is unknown. Some say it is an actual curse for causing the vampire bloodline to be impure, and some say it is a genetic disorder. It is the latter theory that a half breed vampire is cursed that is more widely accepted since a genetic disorder that happened in all half breed vampires, no matter the mix of the race, could not be a genetic disorder.
This leaves the only plausible explanation, which is the curse. Vampires who are half breeds have all the strength of a vampire, but they are unable to control their thirst for blood, will, if gone unchecked, cause the half breed to become a blood sucking monster craving blood three or four times a day. If they tried to fight it, they would be tortured with unbearable pain, and if they are able to endure the pain, they would equally go mad and begin attacking people.
Half breed vampires who become mad with blood lust are targets of extermination. Some people use the excuse that a half breed has gone mad in order to get them killed in a legal fashion. But unless they show signs of being mad with blood lust, then they will not be killed but confined for a few days until confirmed safe for society.
A half breed may apply for blood capsules that should ease the need for blood. It is common for half breeds to go hunting the night before their scheduled attacks to obtain animal blood to satisfy their craven. Please be advised that giving a half breed anything but animal blood may cause the half breed to reject any other kinds of blood, including blood capsules.
Reading this last line caused Kana to frown. She wondered if she was considered an animal or not. She could transform into an oversized lizard after all. She could only hope that was the case because Bell had been drinking her blood for many years now. Now that she got the answers that she was looking for, Kana silently closed the book and fell into deep thought. She wondered what she should do about Bell. With a sigh, she got up and walked down to the counter where the cat girl was reading a book.
The cat girl raised her head to see Kana standing there once more and titled her head to the side: "Meow, what were looking for?"
"I did, but I have a question. Do you know where I can bring a half breed vampire to be tested to make sure she is fine?" Kana wanted to check to see if Bell could use blood capsules or if it was already too late.
"Meow can go down the meow and take a meow to the royal hospital." The cat girl replied.
Kana could only sigh and politely nod her head since she had no idea what this cat girl meant this time. "Thank you."
"Meow problem. Good meow" The cat girl said with a smile before roping her head back into her book.
Kana gave a wave goodbye and walked out of the library. As she did, she saw a handsome man with blonde hair walking up the stairs. He seemed to be a man of high stature with how he was dressed. It seemed he noticed Kana's stare because he looked up at her and gave a smile. "A fine day, is it not?" The man asked.
Kana nodded as she answered: "It really is. Umm sir. May I ask you for some directions?"
"Haha, sure. Let me guess, you asked Tiff inside, and all the important parts were the word meow, right?" The blonde haired man asked as he let out a laugh.
"Ahh yes… I did, in fact, and as you said, the parts that I needed for the directions turned into meows." Kana chuckled. Now that she thought about it, maybe the cat girl Tiff had a talent that went beyond reading.
"Haha, I thought so. My name is Mike. What's yours?" Mike asked.
"Kana. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mike." Kana reached out her hand, and Mike smiled and shook it.
"So, where did you need directions to?" Mike asked.
"Ah right… Umm, I need directions to a hospital that I can take my half breed daughter to get a check up. She's a vampire, and well, we are not from this area. We spent two years traveling to Fendal because of her condition." Kana was very open about it since it seemed from the book that had recently been published that half breed vampires were not looked down on, just heavily policed.
"Yes, How about this? I only need to run in and grab a book. I can help you find the hospital you are heading to. I am guessing you do not have a carriage right and that if you are an outsider, you are staying in an inn, correct?" Mike asked.
"Yes, that is correct. But we won't be a bother, right? I mean, you can just give me directions, and my daughter and I can go to the hospital ourselves." Kana did not want to bother him after he was being so nice to give her directions.
"It is no bother at all. Just give me five minutes. It will be much faster than walking on foot." Mike replied with a smile before rushing inside. Mike looked to be around twenty years of age. Kana had to say he was very good looking. But for some reason she found herself not very attracted to him other than being friendly.
Five minutes passed and Mike came back out with book in hand. When he spotted Kana he waved and ran over to her and asked: "Ready?"
"Yep!" Kana replied. Mike nodded and showed her to his carriage. The carriage was rather fancy and looked like something a rich person would ride in.
As the carriage rode down the cobblestone road Kana was actually quite quiet on the way to the inn. She had a lot on her mind concerning Bell that she was lost in thought thinking about the what ifs. Mike also did not try to bring up any conversation. But when they reached the inn where she was staying Kana was met with a large group of knights escorting a young woman out of the inn. When Kana saw who the young girl was, Kan jumped out of the carriage startling Mike as she yelled out: "Bell!"
