Nian Xi slapped away his hand and said, “You have no idea what I’ve been through. I thought I was going to die. And the weird thing is that at that moment, I suddenly felt that my mean brother was pretty nice. I’m gonna call him and see how he’s doing.”

On the other end of the phone, Luosang looked at a stunned Nian Junting and asked, “What did Nian Xi say to? What’s going on? Why do you look so surprised?”
“Nothing.” Nian Junting put some rice into his mouth. Soon after that, he added, “I think her brain isn’t working well. I can’t believe she said that she misses me, that I’m a good brother and that she likes me.”
Luosang was stunned to hear that. “What’s up with her? Are you sure that’s what she said? What did you say back?”
Nian Junting gave her a look and said, “Do I need to? Those were her exact words.”
He did add something, though, that she had emphasized certain words during their brief conversation.
Luosang furrowed her brows slightly, then rolled her eyes and said, “She said such touching things to you, yet your response was to offer to drive her to the hospital? Think about it. A girl suddenly realizes that someone like you is nice and that she misses you. Why? She’s probably very upset, or she might have just gone through something life-threatening or dangerous that made her feel everything in the world is beautiful. She might feel that pigs are pretty and poop smells nice…”
At first, Nian Junting was quite nervous, but at last, he couldn’t bear listening to her. He made a long face, dropped his chopsticks, and said, “Run that by me again.”
“Not now. I have to change Apple. Call Nian Xi back and ask her what’s going on.” Luosang quickly finished her soup and sneaked away.
Nian Junting carefully pondered his wife’s words. He felt she was probably right.
