Chapter 1174: I Don’t Want to Interrupt You and Professor Jiang

How do you know we haven’t found the murder weapon?” Nian Xi felt a little annoyed. “Did you ask around about it? It’s our case, isn’t it? We’re not even on the same team.”
“I care about you,” said Feng Ji Chuan, with a complicated tone of speaking. “The victim is a Ph.D. student, a talented student from the department of physics. Only the smart ones are allowed in the lab. I think you should be more cautious about the case.”
“Thank you for your advice. I will.” Nian Xi dropped her chopsticks, stood up and left.
Cheng Jing hurriedly caught up with her and said, “He was just saying. Why are you so angry?”
Nian Xi responded with, “I’m not angry. I’m annoyed. I work on the case day and night. I spent so much time watching the surveillance videos that my eyeballs are sore. Yet he lectured me like that, and he questioned my judgment. Does he really think he’s the best at our station? Does he know about the case? Did he ever take part in our work?”
“I think you’re in a wrong mindset.”
Cheng Jing raised her brows and said honestly, “Captain has said the same to you, and you accept it humbly. How come you felt so uncomfortable hearing those words from Feng Ji Chuan? Nian Xi, to be honest, even though you guys broke up peacefully a long time ago, I still feel that you’ve been extra unfriendly to him. You two are colleagues. If his team and ours ever need to work together, your attitude is going to make things troublesome.
Nian Xi was stunned.
She realized Cheng Jing was right.
“Maybe… You’re not over him yet. Is that right?” Cheng Jing asked, “You still care about him and what he said because you can’t get over him.”
Nian Xi gave a start, said, “That’s… that’s nonsense… Maybe I’m just feeling a little uncomfortable. I’ve been a policewoman for years, but I feel that I’m worse than him on everything. Behind my back, some always say that I’m so picky that I even gave up on someone as outstanding as him. They say that I set my sights too high and that I’m hard to get along with, or something like that. I just want to prove that I am outstanding too.”
“You’re right.”
Cheng Jing nodded, said, “After all, you and he were together. It’s understandable that you might feel yourself under pressure. But if you stop thinking about that and start to think about what he said in a positive way, see him as a senior colleague, you might feel better. He’s a few years older than you and has served on the special force. He solved cases that others failed to solve and caught suspects others couldn’t capture. Shouldn’t we all learn from him? Don’t compare yourself with him. Solving a case is easy, but capturing the suspects is not.”
Hearing that, Nian Xi fell into a long silence.
There was truth in those words. Being unable to solve the case was better than arresting the wrong person while trying to prove her capabilities and get a promotion.
“Cheng Jing, thank you. You’re right. I’m going back to go over the case again,” Nian Xi said. Then she quickly walked back into her office.
“Workaholic.” Cheng Jing shook her head and said, “How’s she ever gonna get married?”

Nian Xi spent two days working on the case. She finally found a love letter in a textbook that belonged to Duan Yang.
Fang Qi saw Nian Xi staring at the love letter every single time he walked past her office.
“It’s just a love letter,” he said. “Duan Yang was a handsome guy. It’s a normal thing for a pretty boy like him to have suitors. Zhao Yi is held in custody. You should spend more time interrogating him.”
“I think whoever wrote this love letter has a problem.” Nian Xi stood up and said, “I think I’m gonna make another trip to the school.”
“I’m not going with you. I don’t want to interrupt you and Professor Jiang.” Fang Qi curved his lips downward and said, “Go. And say hi to him when you get there. Seriously, this job is driving you crazy. He might be expecting your call.”
