Lu Xinyi’s gaze softened when she saw him. His presence had somehow had a soothing effect on her, making her forget her worries.
She thought how lucky she was for having an understanding husband as him and in-laws who accepted her in spite of her connection with the Sun family. There was no one around and in his presence, she didn’t need to pretend at all.
Lu Xinyi finished her call at once and informed the secretary that she would be busy for the next few days and wouldn’t be able to visit Chairman Sun.
After seeing her put down the phone, Shen Yi approached her and wrapped his arms around her.
The moment he held her, Lu Xinyi’s posture relaxed and she voluntarily leaned against him for support.
“Are you tired?” Shen Yi asked, noticing the darkening circles under her eyes. His wife wasn’t getting enough sleep lately and was restless. Maybe he should bring her to Zhao Xi for a checkup.
Lu Xinyi shook her head and smiled at him. “I finished my homework, and the twins have been good today.”
“Yes, yes, you’ve been busy and haven’t had enough time to spare with me.” He grumbled, burying his face on her thick hair and taking in her familiar scent. He heard his wife giggled as his nose tickled the side of her neck in the process.
“Sorry. I’ll try to make it up for you,” she replied.
“You don’t have to.” Shen Yi sighed, deeply aware that her school work and the twins were the reason for her restless and uneventful days. It also didn’t help that Tang Lingfei’s presence in their home had somehow made the atmosphere awkward between the two.
Since Tang Lingfei arrived, Shen Yi wasn’t able to touch and be intimate with his wife at all. Lu Xinyi did have a tendency to get a little loud, which also meant that he had to control himself for these days. The agony of not being able to touch her…
“Really?” Lu Xinyi waggled her eyebrows to him, teasing him further. Of course, she knew her husband’s struggle to behave during her grandmother’s stay.
“I think it’s nice to have her around. The twins like her, and I’m assured that you wouldn’t feel lonely while waiting for your training period to start.” Shen Yi shrugged.
Now that she’s free from Flair Apparel’s meetings, Lu Xinyi was just waiting for the selections to finish before she and Han Yixin start intensive training under the headmistress herself. She was looking forward to learning more and to see how she’d be able to improve her skills under Han Zhiling’s guidance.
Sun Qiyan’s death didn’t satisfy Lu Xinyi’s thirst for revenge though. This Zuo Yin had ruined it for her. However, Xi Yunchuan, who seemed to suddenly suffer hallucinations and insomnia after her visit, didn’t seem like he would be able to get away from his crime. She wondered if Shen Yi had something to do with it.
Lu Xinyi was ready to put everything behind her now that she’d somehow taken justice for Sun Qiushan’s death.
Shen Yi cupped her cheek with his palm and ran his thumb on her soft skin. Lu Xinyi looked like she was constantly occupied with thoughts lately, but he didn’t dare to question it. He only wished that she would trust him enough to share her worries with him.
“You’ll be fine,” he told her, “You’re going to win the challenge.”
“Of course, I will. I don’t plan to lose to anyone without a good fight.” She winked at him, making him chuckle; but somehow Lu Xinyi could sense that there was something wrong with the way her husband looked at her.
Was she just imagining things or something that was troubling her husband again?
“Is it about Xue?” she asked, not being able to suppress her curiosity.
“Hmm?” He only gave her a noncommittal smile, neither acknowledging nor denying her inquiry.
She shook her head, making her long hair flow down her chest. If it wasn’t about Xue, he must think about Feng Zexian again. The man had been missing for more than a week now, and they hadn’t heard any news about him.
“We’ll find him soon.” Lu Xinyi told him, assuring him that he didn’t need to face the problem on his own.
Shen Yi didn’t say anything in return but kissed her forehead. He didn’t want to speak for her and didn’t know how to express what he was feeling right now. He could only hold her like this tightly.
“What’s for dinner? I haven’t eaten anything since morning,” he told her.
Lu Xinyi was stunned for a moment. It was rare for her husband to skip his meal unless he was extremely busy. She looked at him, and it occurred to her that she wasn’t the only one who’d been busy.
Next week, Shen Xue and her cousin, Lu Xiulan, would come back. Her brother-in-law was about to replace her husband as the next president.
Shen Yi’s hands and arms slid down her form, and he turned to sit on the chair Lu Xinyi vacated during her phone call. He glanced around the room, his face refusing to give his wife a hint on what was in his mind.
Lu Xinyi followed his movements with curious eyes.
“What do you want to eat?” she asked.
“Anything you have in mind as long as it’s edible,” he teased, earning a glare from his wife.
Shen Yi watched her go. As soon as she closed the door of his study, the smile instantly disappeared from his face. He could hear her footsteps gradually fading away. The laptop his wife left open on his desk showed the stock tracker for Sun Corporation. She was doing well recently without his guidance.
He closed the tab and turned the device off. Soon, the darkened screen of the computer only showed a man with a conflicted expression written all over his face.
