As the selections came to the end, Shen Yi and Li Yuren were suddenly out of sight. Lu Xinyi wondered where he was and checked her phone, but there was no message left for her. She proceeded to follow her mentor and Han Yixin to greet the other VIP guests.
In one of the empty hallways within the arena, two silhouettes of men could be heard talking lowly to each other. Only the huge window in the hallway provided them enough light to see each other. They’d been talking for a while now in low voices.
Feng Zexian was suddenly missing in action, and this forced Li Yuren to find another lead.
“Your wife is playing with the fire. Aren’t you afraid that she’ll get a nasty burn from it?” Li Yuren asked as he leaned against the windowsill and looked outside. The snow continued to fall as the gray sky covered the whole city.
Shen Yi raised a brow at him and chuckled.
“Xinxin knows what she’s doing, and you really shouldn’t poke your nose in it.”
Li Yuren shrugged and puffed smoke from his cigarette. It was just the lead of their investigation that stumbled on Lu Xinyi’s sudden interest with Redux Entertainment and Sun Corporation. Who would have thought the third miss of the Sun family was slowly buying out the stocks of Sun Corporation using a shell company?
His mind drifted back to the memory where he and Lu Xinyi were trapped in that cave. Lu Xinyi had a mild fever while she was asleep, and he was on guard. She looked so weak and vulnerable. She was sleeping soundly when his hand unconsciously reached out to her. However, even before his fingers pushed away the strands from her face, he stopped and hesitated before withdrawing his hand, reminding himself that it wasn’t his place to take care of her.
As to how this woman was able to afford to spend five million dollars’ worth of stocks within three days was surprising. She was slowly devouring the small percent held by the shareholders. If she managed to reach twenty percent before this month ends, she’d be the second-largest shareholder of the Sun Corporation.
If the Sun family was aware of this, Li Yuren had no idea. Sun Feiyan might be able to suspect the takeover from the outside, but who was behind it would be difficult to find out.
“It can’t be helped. The Sun family should have known not to mess up with my wife,” Shen Yi said after a long silence between them.
The war had already started. When Lu Xinyi heard that a tragedy befell on one of the projects Sun Qiyan handled, the stocks of the Sun Corporation also went down. Some shareholders sold their shares one by one, and Lu Xinyi repurchased it using the fund she extorted from the Chu family.
“You should know that if she wins this war, this could be the end of her mother’s family. This will be a deadly blow to Sun Corporation, but if she loses…” Li Yuren didn’t dare to finish his words because Shen Yi’s deadly glare was already set upon him.
“There’s no way in hell that Lu Xinyi will fail. I will not allow it,” he said with finality.
He turned to leave and left Li Yuren alone. Lu Xinyi must be looking for him right now and with Feng Zexian missing, he must proceed with his next plans.
Shen Yi knew his wife didn’t have enough experience in running a business; what more a corporation? However, his wife wouldn’t be able to bear the consequences if she failed. Not only she’d lose the money she invested, but it’d also affect Flair Apparel’s standing in the market.
Shen Yi found his wife talking to Sun Feiyan with a pissed off expression on her face. The woman must have said something to irritate her. Lu Xinyi looked past Sun Feiyan and met him halfway.
“Where have you been? I thought I was just seeing things earlier,” she told him. Lu Xinyi noticed his face was as chilly as the weather outside, but when he saw her, his eyes softened.
“Nothing important. Let’s go home,” he replied and led her away from the arena after bidding goodbye to He Haotian.
Once the couple settled in his car, her bodyguards followed them closely behind. Shen Yi was unusually silent which made Lu Xinyi worry. Outside, it was already rush hour; there was a traffic jam on their way back home, and it may take an hour to arrive at Imperial Residences.
“I thought you said you’re going to be busy today. Change of plans?” she asked, trying to break the awkward atmosphere around them.
“It doesn’t matter. You are more important,” Shen Yi said casually.
He’d said it casually, and yet it was enough for Lu Xinyi’s heart to skip a beat upon hearing it.
‘You’re more important…’
“Then, what’s wrong? Did something happen?” She couldn’t ignore it anymore. Being Shen Yi’s wife, she knew his mood better than anyone. However, if he didn’t want to talk about it, she wouldn’t force him.
“Xue will be back in two weeks. He completed his project earlier than expected.”
“Then, that’s good. Shouldn’t you be happy? Xue made it on time, and you can now hand over the Shen Group to him.” She was sure now that something was up, and her husband wasn’t telling her what it was.
“I was just thinking…”Shen Yi trailed off, Lu Xinyi waited for him expectantly. “Xinxin, let’s announce our marriage. We’ve been married for some time now; I think this is the right time…”
Announce their marriage? Lu Xinyi hadn’t expected to hear it from him. Was he serious? Did he really want to announce it at this time? She couldn’t fathom what was running on his mind. Shen Yi’s eyes had an unreadable expression, and suddenly, Lu Xinyi felt fear rising in her heart.
Lu Xinyi was silent for a long time, trying to figure out what was happening. She might ask her bodyguards for help, but if her husband was concealing something from her, then what should she do?
