With her resting bitch face plastered on her face, other people wouldn’t think that Lu Xinyi was eavesdropping on the group of students behind her. She stretched out her legs in front of her and pretended that she was bored, not paying attention to the gossips.
“What? Are you sure?” A woman exclaimed. “The Liu family had been in the top ranks for the past seven years. How come they failed this time?”
Her friend shrugged her shoulders and flipped her locks to her back.
“No idea, but the Tang twins are surprisingly good, especially that Tang Lilou, the younger of the twins. She was able to outrank Liu family’s Yan Chen.”
“Ah, but the new representative of Li family is also outstanding. Didn’t they say he was Chef Qin’s apprentice?” She handed her phone to her friend, the action flashing her French-manicured nails.
The other girl nodded but kept her eyes on the screen of her phone. They made their way over the table across Lu Xinyi, making it easier for her to listen to their talk. She shouldn’t be eavesdropping about it, but hey, it was about the results! And she was also curious about the other families’ representatives for this school year.
“Yep, but this Shen representative also beat Yan Chen by three points!”
“Who’s that?” One of the girls raised a brow, doubting what she just heard. It was the first time the Shen family entered the picture, and they already got their representative up in the rankings.
“The name’s Lu Xinyi of SY Holdings. I didn’t know that the Shen family branched out to other fields.”
Lu Xinyi almost jolted up from her seat when she heard it. She tilted her head on one side.
‘What in the world?!’
She was even more aghast when they said that she was able to beat the other representatives other than the Liu family’s.
Why did they know the results? They still had to wait at least half an hour for it to be released. She decided to return to the examination room to see if it was already posted. She chose to forget about knowing where they saw the results; she wanted to know whether it was just a nonsense rumor or she really did make it.
Geez, she was more nervous now than the time she was marrying Shen Yi.
Along her way, she saw several students staring down at their phones and talking about the results of the preliminary exams. How they were able to know if it was real if the results weren’t out yet?
When she reached her destination, Lu Xinyi was surprised to see people crowding the hallway, taking turns in checking the bulletin board, with their phone cameras snapping at the results. Her heart beat wildly in her chest. This was it. Did she make it?
Her eyes scanned the long list of names that was posted on the board. She started to look for her name in the second list where half of the names of the examinees was posted. The first one had the ranking list on it so she didn’t bother to take a look.
After a moment of silence, Lu Xinyi frowned in disappointment. She wasn’t able to see her name on the list. Ah, but she was confident that she would pass it so what the hell happened to her papers? Did she overestimate herself this time?
“The rankings for the preliminary is absurd. Don’t you think the Li and the Shen families bribed the proctors to pass their representatives?” A middle-aged man commented with a scowl. His brows were creased, and he was skeptical about the results.
His friend nudged his side before looking around nervously. Some other examinees where throwing glares in their direction. “Shh! Don’t say that! What if someone hears you?! Say goodbye to your career if any of the Li or the Shen family heard what you said!”
Shen family representative? There was no other one but her so there was no way these people weren’t talking about her.
Lu Xinyi rubbed her chin and took a good look at the ranking list. She felt her jaw beginning to unhinge when she saw her name!
PRELIMINARY ROUND RESULTS
Rank 1 – Ye Xieren (Li Corporation)
Rank 2 – Tang Lilou (Griffin Entertainment)
Rank 3 – Tang Liang (Griffin Entertainment)
Rank 4 – Lu Xinyi (SY Holdings)
Rank 5 – Yan Chen (Liu Technologies)
What the hell? How was she able to get in the rankings? Shen Yi didn’t use underhanded tricks to help her, right? Nope, impossible. He was too cocky and confident to resort to cheating. She had no idea who were the other people in the list except for one familiar name.
Rank 7- Meng Jiao (Sun Corporation)
Oh? Well, that wasn’t surprising at all. Meng Jiao was a diligent and smart student when they were younger, but this was the first time Lu Xinyi got a better grade than her ex-best friend.
She saw Meng Jiao, standing at the other side of the board with a gloomy expression on her face. Instead of being inflicted with rage for seeing Lu Xinyi’s name on top of hers, she was rather distressed. She must have promised the top spot to her sponsor.
The bitch didn’t expect her first failure for today.
