“Are you happy now?” Gong Yijun continued. “I thought you would be happy with everything I was giving you,” he snarled, “but no! You had to take everything away from me when you left! All because of what? Because I was keeping your best friend as my other woman?”
“Do you really expect me to accept everything you’ve done and pretend nothing wrong happened?” She pinned her eyes at him. “And to answer your question, yes. I’m very much happy with my husband now.”
After saying those words, the door at the backseat opened again; and Shen Yi slid inside, sitting beside his wife. He leaned towards her and pressed a gentle kiss on her cheek.
“Sorry for making you wait.”
“It’s alright. Did everything go well according to plan?”
Shen Yi nodded as he held her hand to reassure her that everything was alright. He then turned his attention to his captive.
“You are quite persistent.” His monotonous tone brought shivers down Gong Yijun’s spine.
Gong Yijun instantly shut his mouth as he saw the domineering presence of Shen Yi. Lu Xinyi’s lips twitched as she watched her ex-boyfriend cower in fear. So where were those nasty and cruel words he was spouting earlier? Too afraid to face Shen Yi’s wrath?
Gong Yijun lowered his head to avoid eye contact with Shen Yi. He was deeply aware of the difference between them now. True to what Lu Xinyi said earlier, he was nothing compared to Shen Yi. In his presence, he was nothing but a peasant whose fate was in the emperor’s hands. It was either he would make it or break it.
The difference between them was like heaven and earth. Shen Yi was the sky, and he was the dirt. How was Lu Xinyi able to marry such a man? He couldn’t believe it himself. This wasn’t a dream, right?
He could feel Shen Yi’s piercing eyes set on him. Still, he refused to meet his gaze. He felt like a prey trapped inside a cage with a predator watching his every move. His face went white. He couldn’t utter a single word to Shen Yi right now. What was this feeling he was having right now?
After hearing cold words, Gong Yijun wished the ground would swallow him up to save himself from further embarrassment. His rage and anger towards Lu Xinyi were almost left forgotten. What did he bring himself into?
“Say something. My husband is talking to you.” He heard Lu Xinyi’s mocking tone. He clenched his fist behind him and cursed his luck.
It was his own fault why he ended up this way. If he hadn’t cheated on Lu Xinyi, things could have been better. Although he knew that Lu Xinyi hadn’t been the best girlfriend when they were together, she was very loyal and supportive of him. It wasn’t until Meng Jiao seduced him one night while Lu Xinyi was in an out-of-town vacation.
He dared to lift up his head and see the scene in front of him. Shen Yi was holding Lu Xinyi’s hand while she was giving him a bright smile. The smile that she always had and given to him before was now exclusively for another man.
Lu Xinyi had managed to ruin his career, his life, and his ego in one single choice she made. He had always thought that Lu Xinyi was dependent on him—that she couldn’t live a life without him. How wrong he was to assume that she needed him.
So it turned out she didn’t need him in her life because Shen Yi could provide better than him. Why else would she choose him over Shen Yi? What could he have that could beat the president of the Shen Group anyway?
Even how hard he tried to work his ass off, he would never be in the same status as Shen Yi. He was beyond comparison to a commoner like him. Lu Xinyi, who still technically part of a wealthy clan, deserved to marry Shen Yi. How he could be so dumb and stupid to make an enemy like Shen Yi? The Shen Group practically had influence not only within the city but also in the whole country. Did he really think he could compete with someone like him?
Now, he was frightened to the core. He had no idea what was Shen Yi planning to do with him, but he knew the man was seeking revenge for Lu Xinyi! Surely, this would be bad as he hadn’t taken Shen Yi’s warning the last time they’d met.
“What else do you want from me? Do you want me to beg for your forgiveness? Lu Xinyi, I never thought you’re a scheming woman,” he finally replied, but his eyes were on Lu Xinyi.
