Shen Xue could swear there was something different about his older brother but couldn’t point out what it was. Ever since Shen Yi came back from his business trip from the City H, it was easier to approach and talk to him these days. He wasn’t grumpy and irritated. He’d also noticed that his older brother never took overtime for work.
“Dad, do you think he’s sick or something?” Shen Xue asked their father while munching on some dessert he found in his brother’s fridge and barged into their father’s office to hide from Shen Yi. Heck, he was sure his brother would kill him as soon as he found out the missing desserts.
His father looked up from his desk and shook his head. He also heard the rumors about his eldest son being seen with a woman. Shen Yi had never been seen with a date before. While he couldn’t confirm these speculations, he didn’t dare look upon it in fear that Shen Yi would unleash his wrath on him.
Ah, his bet with his mother would be so interesting this time. He had always lost the bet whenever they try to set Shen Yi up on a blind date. Maybe this time, he would win and get back all those prizes he’d lose.
“Xue, you don’t have to overthink about it. If your brother is seeing someone at the moment, we should not interfere. You know what he will do if he finds out we’re sticking our noses in his private matters.”
“But still, he looks weird. He doesn’t take overtime or go to work on weekends. That is so unlikely of him, Dad.” Shen Yue scooped the coffee panna cotta and savor the flavor that assaulted his taste buds.
It was silky and light as well as rich. The vanilla-flecked caramel sauce balanced the slight bitterness of the coffee. Knowing his elder brother, it wasn’t surprising that he chose the coffee-flavored one.
Where the heck did Shen Yi buy these yummy desserts? Even the chef in their family mansion couldn’t make something like this.
“Let him be.” His father sighed. “And why are you eating that knowing your brother will get mad of you?”
“Not unless he finds out.” Shen Xue laughed.
“Which I did.” The cold and dangerous voice made Shen Xue stopped eating his panna cotta. With wide eyes, he turned his head into the direction where the voice came from and gulped.
Shen Yi was fuming in rage, glaring at his younger brother with an empty container in his hands. Shen Xue broke into a cold sweat when he saw the familiar container of the tiramisu he’d eaten earlier.
“Hey, bro—”
“Don’t ‘hey, bro’ me, little brother.” Shen Yi hissed. “You still dare eat my food when I already put a note saying it is MINE?!”
Shen Yi’s eyes drifted to the almost empty cup of his panna cotta. Darn, that was the last one! He and Lu Xinyi spent their whole day yesterday trying out some desserts. Well, his wife did the cooking and preparing, he was the guinea pig for the taste test though. He was his wife’s willing guinea pig, not that he minded anyway.
Throughout his meeting earlier, his mind was preoccupied with those desserts he left in his fridge. What he didn’t expect was Shen Xue raiding it, taking the tiramisu and panna cotta Lu Xinyi packed for him earlier.
Imagine his disappointment and heartbreak when he found out the empty container, mocking him that he was too late. He wasn’t planning to share it with anyone.
“Sorry, bro. I couldn’t resist when I saw them. They were calling out to me, you know.” Shen Xue reminisced the taste of tiramisu he devoured earlier. That was the best one he had for years. Maybe he should ask his brother where did he buy it.
“Right now, I couldn’t resist my desire to punch your face.” Shen Yi growled as he threw the empty container at his brother’s face.
Shen Xue easily avoided the assault and jumped out from his seat.
‘Hey, you don’t have to be mad! Tell me where you bought it, and I’ll replace those desserts.”
Buy? Ha! He didn’t know what he was talking about. Shen Yi even had to bribe his wife to cook something for him. Those tiramisu and panna cotta were the only one left from the sweets she made yesterday.
“You can’t buy it anywhere, stupid!” Shen Yi reached up and hit his brother on his head.
“Oww! Dad! Help! He’s bullying me again!” Shen Xue tried to seek their father’s help. “That hurts, you bastard!” He hissed at his elder brother.
“Dimwit. Can’t even understand a simple note.” Shen Yi retaliated.
Their father could only shook his head. This was a typical form of daily conversations between his sons. He wondered when would his two sons grow tired of trading insults to each other.
