This kind of desire that ran through Zuo Yin’s veins made him so excited. He didn’t know why he found Lu Xinyi extremely attractive at that moment. He never thought that the woman his adoptive mother hated for all these years was this fiery and exceptional woman.
‘Lu Xinyi… ah, Lu Xinyi. You’ll become mine!’ he thought.
Sun Mingai hadn’t painted Lu Xinyi as beautiful and smart as Sun Feiyan so it was a surprise for him to meet this Lu Xinyi in person. Pure lust ran through him. Every cell in his body was itching to possess Lu Xinyi, to trap her beneath him and take her senselessly. His eyes appreciated every inch of her skin that was exposed and curves that were accentuated by her dress.
Compared to Sun Feiyan and Sun Qiyan, Lu Xinyi’s beauty was ethereal in his eyes.
His musing was disturbed when Chairman Sun’s assistant knocked on the door, informing them that the celebration was about to start.
Lu Xinyi stood up, not waiting for the others to lead her back downstairs. She would rather spend her night with her husband and the Tangs than to get closer to these murderers.
“Xin’er, wait,” Chairman Sun’s voice stopped her from opening the door.
Lu Xinyi looked over her shoulder, waiting for him to say what he wanted.
“Have you made up your mind? Are you going to step up now as my successor?”
“Dad! No!” Sun Ruying jolted up from her seat and exclaimed. “You can’t do this! Not her! Anyone but her!” She insisted.
“Who are you to question my decision?!” Chairman Sun raised his voice and tapped his cane loud on the marble floor. “Xin’er has suffered through these years, and none of you extended a hand to help her!”
Both mother and daughter winced at his words. They were the ones assigned to give Lu Xinyi her monthly allowances, but Sun Qiyan—to spite Lu Xinyi—never deposited the full amount to her account.
“Don’t you think I don’t know that you and Qiyan haven’t given Xin’er her monthly allowances on time?! Now, tell me! Why isn’t she worthy to become my successor?!”
Sun Qiyan was rendered speechless. She had no idea that their grandfather was aware of her actions. She tried to hide as much as possible from his eyes, hoping he wouldn’t notice her presence.
“Dad, it isn’t like we don’t welcome Xin’er, but unlike Feiyan whom you’ve groomed since she was young, Xin’er didn’t have the same capacity to run Sun Corporation. You do know she’s pursuing her career in culinary now; aren’t you going to support her decision, Dad?” Sun Mingai joined the conversation.
To the outsiders, she might sound very considerate and understanding to Lu Xinyi’s decisions and future; but in truth, like her younger sister, Sun Mingai refused to accept Lu Xinyi as the next head of Sun Corporation and, subsequently, the head of their family.
“What if I don’t want to?” The woman in question answered Chairman Sun.
Her question brought displeasure to the old man.
“Are you still mad at me, Xin’er? What should I do to lessen the pain in your heart?” he asked dejectedly.
His only legitimate successor sneered inwardly.
‘Why don’t you all just die and rot in hell?!’ Lu Xinyi wanted to shout but knew that even if this whole family vanished, she would never be able to bring back Qiushan. Qiushan, the only one born decent from this backstabbing family she hated the most, had died because of Qiyan.
Even if Qiyan and Xi Yunchuan bled to death, it wouldn’t be enough to lessen the pain of loss in her heart. Her eyes welled up with tears, and Chairman Sun thought she was crying for her mother while—in truth—Lu Xinyi’s heart was still aching for Qiushan’s untimely death.
“Xin’er…” he called worriedly.
However, Lu Xinyi refused to regard him.
“Feiyan and I have talked about it…” he continued, “If you are worried that you wouldn’t be able to run the company on your own, Feiyan will help you to manage it.”
Lu Xinyi’s eyes glanced towards Sun Feiyan. There was something on her cousin’s demeanor that she found strange since she stepped inside the Sun Estate. Had this woman predicted that she will come today and force Chairman Sun to discredit her?
“How could I accept that? Even Aunt Mingai doesn’t think I could handle it,” Lu Xinyi retorted. She didn’t give the woman some face and revealed her inner thoughts to everyone.
Sun Mingai’s face darkened. This daughter of her sister Meixiu wasn’t easy to subdue!
Daring to make a fool out of her? Ha! They must be thinking she would be as naive as her mother! Sun Meixiu believed that even if they were half-sisters, they wouldn’t stab her in her back. What had become of her in the end?
“She wouldn’t dare not to accept you,” the old man insisted. “Remember what I’ll say today and don’t forget your places!” His eyes swept to everyone within the room.
“The Sun family has only one successor, and that would be Xin’er! If any of you disagree with my decision, the door of the Sun Mansion is wide open for your departure!”
Lu Xinyi’s eyes widened in disbelief. This old man was fucking serious. He really wanted her to come back as his next successor!
It had been fifteen years since she left the Sun Estate, and for Chairman Sun, it was like an eternity had passed.
“But Father…” Sun Ruying tried to persuade her father but failed when he shot her a glare. Still, she couldn’t believe that a woman who doesn’t bear the surname Sun will inherit everything!
“Did you not hear what I said? None of you were able to conceive a male offspring, and now, you dare to question me? Isn’t enough that I did my part and welcomed you to my family for a price I had to pay?”
Sun Ruying and Sun Mingai looked down shamefully. Chairman Sun was divorced by Tang Lingfei when he decided to acknowledge his other children from his mistress in public.
“Do you really want me to disregard Lu Xinyi? She’s my only legitimate granddaughter!”
Lu Xinyi frowned. She disliked being forced to do something she was not interested in, but seeing how angry Sun Qiyan was after Chairman Sun announced her as his successor, she was curious to see what Qiyan would do next.
Would she plot against her life like what Sun Ruying did to her mother?
“What do you think, Xin’er?” Chairman Sun’s voice lowered as he talked to his granddaughter. “Xin’er, Grandfather doesn’t have many years left to live. My only wish is to see our family with a bright future, with you married and leading a happy life. Grandfather knew he disappointed you all these years so let him make up for it, will you?”
Lu Xinyi tilted her head on one side and crossed her arms on her chest.
“I understand your wish to see me walking in the altar and have a happy life, but what does the Sun family’s future have to do with me?”
She would rather see the whole family crumble down and burn into ashes than help them flourish at all.
