“Like I said I want them to locate two people, but first things first,”—Lu Xinyi paused and eyed the mercenary group in front of them—”are you willing to serve the Shen family and be my bodyguard, or would you rather keep your freedom by killing yourselves right now?”
As the leader of his group, Fu Shuren sought his members’ opinions. Just by sharing a look, he could tell clearly what was on their mind. They would rather stay on Lu Xinyi’s side than to suffer death.
Their lives for the past months weren’t easy. The missions they took were highly paid but high-risk. They almost lost their lives from their last mission. If it wasn’t for Lu Xinyi’s intervention, they were probably dead by now.
“We accept being your bodyguard, Miss Lu. Not only have you saved our lives once but twice as you also offered to take us under your wing. As our benefactor, we owe our second lives to you so it’s only appropriate to swear our loyalty and lives to Miss Lu,” Fu Shuren replied.
Shen Yi easily understood what Fu Shuren was implying. He was telling them that his group only vowed their loyalty to Lu Xinyi alone and not to the Shen family. The Shen family had nothing to do with the Bloody Wolves and the only thing that connected them was Lu Xinyi alone.
Shen Yi nodded. As long as this group remained loyal to his wife and could protect her from any danger, he could accept them.
“If it isn’t Zheng Yue’s mother, who are the people you are looking for?” he asked his wife.
“I want the three of you”—Lu Xinyi pointed a finger to the Fu siblings and Jiao Jiao—”to find my maternal cousin Sun Qiushan and a woman named Liao Qiu. I’m giving you a week to find their whereabouts. If you failed this mission, the Zhang siblings would never see another sunrise again; and you three will be dealt with by my husband.”
“Liao Qiu…” Shen Yi uttered the second name Lu Xinyi mentioned. His wife heard him.
“You know her, Darling?” Lu Xinyi was surprised.
Shen Yi shook his head. He’d heard this name before.
“No, I only received some reports that Sun Feiyan was also trying to find this woman since she arrived back from overseas. I just don’t understand her motive behind it. What does she want from a former maid of the Sun Estate?”
Lu Xinyi went silent. She contemplated if she should tell the truth or not. In the end, she knew she couldn’t keep it from him for too long.
“It’s only natural for Feiyan to find Liao Qiu…”
“What do you mean?” Shen Yi had no idea what his wife meant on that.
“Have you ever wondered why the Sun family never dared to publicize Sun Feiyan’s mother?”
“You mean to say…”
“Yes, Liao Qiu is Sun Feiyan’s mother.” Lu Xinyi confirmed Shen Yi’s suspicion.
Lu Xinyi had accidentally discovered this detail about Sun Feiyan’s identity when she was staying at the Sun Estate after her mother’s passing. She overheard Sun Feiyan and Sun Qiyan arguing about her. Feiyan was telling Qiyan to leave Lu Xinyi alone and focus on her studies and training as a fine lady.
Sun Qiyan, in return, burned in anger and insulted Sun Feiyan instead. She ended up revealing that Feiyan’s mother was nothing but a maid poorer than a sewer rat. It was the first time that Lu Xinyi saw Sun Feiyan lose her composure and snap at Sun Qiyan’s provocation.
Sun Qiyan was badly injured at the end of the day. That was enough to leave a mark on her mind. It was also the reason why even though she also hated Sun Feiyan, the murderous eyes that glared down on her as Sun Feiyan ruined her face was enough for Sun Qiyan to tremble in fear. It was as if she’d seen a monster.
“The Sun family hid this secret well,” Shen Yi commented.
“It’s already expected that they’d hide this from the public. Sun Weijun, the only young master of the Sun family fell in love with his maid. Of course, they’d hide it. They only claimed that Sun Feiyan was a daughter from an ex-girlfriend of my uncle.”
Going back to the real issue, Lu Xinyi regarded the three mercenaries again.
“I don’t care how you will do it as long as you find them.” Lu Xinyi told them.
“And once we found them?” Fu Rui asked. Did Lu Xinyi wanted them alive or not?
“You don’t need to dispose of them,” Lu Xinyi continued, “I want both of them alive. Don’t let anyone know you are looking for them. If someone finds it out, you know well what to do. I assume you can easily find my cousin’s whereabouts using Sun Ruying and Sun Qiyan’s phone call records. As for Liao Qiu…”—she narrowed her eyes—”I need you to keep her in a safe place, where Sun Feiyan’s people cannot find her.”
These two people were vital chess pieces in her game against the Sun family. Who said they were the only ones capable of using a relative or a close relation? How dare they use Meng Jiao against her? If it wasn’t for the Sun family, Meng Jiao wouldn’t lose her life.
Lu Xinyi wanted them to feel how to become desperate and how betrayal felt like. This was the first step to her revenge. Didn’t people say ‘a man who desires revenge should dig two graves’? However, Lu Xinyi wasn’t planning to lose to anyone. She’d make sure she’d be alive and well while watching the Sun family crumble in despair.
The Fu siblings and Jiao Jiao were released by Shen Yi’s men. The three bid goodbye to Zhang Qing and Zhang Sheng before leaving. Once again, Fu Shuren swore their loyalty to Lu Xinyi and promised to deliver the job within one week.
“Are you sure about this?” Shen Yi asked when the three left their villa. He’d seen the murderous glint that flashed in her eyes earlier.
“Yes,” she admitted, “I’ve been being too kind to the Sun family for so long; they thought they could bully me that easily.”
She’d ignored the Sun family for too long, but after Meng Jiao’s funeral, everything around her became different. Her desire to see the whole family fall down surged up. The Sun family should have taken the hint that she wasn’t interested in her inheritance and leave her alone.
