“President Shen…” Li Qiao sought Shen Yi after their long meeting. “It suits you. How have you been?”
“Better than ever.”
Li Qiao smirked, liking how Shen Yi was not the same meek man she’d left years ago.
“You look well,” she nodded, “I heard what happened. Yuren was upset about it, but what else could he do, right? A Sun woman of all people. So when can I meet the lucky girl?”
Shen Yi’s jaw clenched. What was she trying to say?
“My wife would be very busy these days.”
“Such a pity. Anyway, it was nice to see you again, President Shen.” Li Qiao gave him a wink before leaving the conference room with the other investors.
Shen Yi clenched his fists on his side and stormed to his own office to calm down. Li Qiao wouldn’t show herself without a reason. What did she want now?
She was still as beautiful as he could remember. Li Qiao was still the same woman who left him before—except she looked more matured now. Her eyes still reflected the same intelligence that once captured him.
Unlike Lu Xinyi, she presented herself as a true young miss of the Li family. Her movements and posture were so graceful. Her designer bags and clothes spoke of its value. She looked like a gem, modest and not cheap.
Once he’d fallen for her smiles, and her gentle teasing strung his heart and blinded his eyes. He overlooked Li Qiao’s veering lies and shady actions and glanced the other way when she enjoyed the company of men other than his, convincing himself that it was merely a friendship that he couldn’t understand.
Shen Yi stood near the window again, eyes on the street he had no interest in. He couldn’t care for the passing cars or anything. His mind was busy re-examining his life with her after she’d left and what could change now that she was back.
“Shen Yi, there are clauses that we have to revise, but overall, I can say that we got the deal.” Kang Wei spoke behind him with excitement.
Once Kang Wei noticed Shen Yi’s silence, his smile faltered. He got a feeling it was because of Li Qiao.
“How’s our sister Xinxin? Did she already move to the academy?”
His question reminded Shen Yi of what he had now. His wife, Lu Xinyi.
Shen Yi closed his eyes and chided himself for overthinking. He could not put his marriage on the line. What he had now with Lu Xinyi was more important than anything else.
“Xue was with her. She should be on her new place by now,” he replied to Kang Wei.
“You should go to her,” Kang Wei suggested after a long silence between them.
Shen Yi left at once, not giving another time to waste to talk with their investors. With his father still around, he was sure that everything would be settled; and no problems should arise soon. Find authorized novels in ReadNovelFull, faster updates, better experience,Please click for visiting.
Shen Huang, who was still busy chit-chatting with their investors, was surprised to see his eldest son in a hurry. Li Qiao could only look at Shen Yi’s retreating figure as he walked away.
Driving towards Lunar Residence, Shen Yi wondered what Lu Xinyi would think if she’d known about Li Qiao.
He walked at the lobby and took the separate elevator that led to Lu Xinyi’s penthouse. The place was indeed expensive, but given how he was assured that no one could easily trespass Lu Xinyi’s privacy, it was worth the expense.
Using his own copy of keycard, he unlocked the door and stepped into a dim-lit house.
“Xinxin?” He called out, but he couldn’t see Lu Xinyi from where he was. The kitchen was dark, and the main bedroom was closed. Where could she be?
His question was answered when he heard a grumble from the couch. Moving towards the living area, Shen Yi found his wife sleeping on the couch and holding her phone on one hand. She was still wearing the same white tee shirt and fitted jeans she wore when she left their home.
A smile crossed his lips. His right hand reached out to brush away the stray locks from her face.
This woman…
He couldn’t believe she would choose to sleep on the couch than the master bedroom where she could sleep much better.
Shen Yi removed his coat and covered her sleeping form. Lu Xinyi might have been too exhausted from the recent events.
Her nose twitched once she caught a familiar scent from his coat. Slowly, Lu Xinyi opened her eyes and found Shen Yi kneeling next to her with a hand brushing her fringe, his eyes staring at her tenderly.
“What are you doing here?” Lu Xinyi slowly sat up and rubbed her eye with her knuckle. She yawned before noting the dimness of the place. “Crap. Did I oversleep?”
“I’m not sure. Why did you choose to sleep here when you have a queen-size bed at the master’s bedroom?”
“Oh? I didn’t realize I dozed off while waiting for you. You weren’t answering my calls earlier. I was waiting for your meeting to end.” Lu Xinyi smiled sheepishly. “How was the meeting?”
“Too long.” Shen Yi frowned before settling himself beside his wife. “At least we’re able to close the deal Xue has been working on since we left.”
Lu Xinyi scooted closer and leaned her head on his arm because his shoulder was still too high for her to reach.
“I missed you already,” she confessed in a low voice. With the classes starting tomorrow, she didn’t she would have enough time to spend with him like this.
Shen Yi kept silent, but she felt him kissed her forehead before putting his chin on the top of her head.
All his doubts and worries instantly vanished as he held her in his arms.
He wanted all her smiles only to himself because he was a selfish bastard like his younger brother had called him. All he wanted was to bring her joy, be the source of those lit eyes and dimpled cheeks.
He’d watched her bring so much happiness to those around her. Feel the warmth she had given to him.
Lu Xinyi had shown him how to find beauty in a cruel world. Shen Yi would only admit to himself that he was smitten by this little devil.
She had tried so hard to do so well. Lu Xinyi worked hard since the start. She fought for every step—even if people think she couldn’t make it. She wanted to fly, and now she was starting to spread her wings and soar up high.
Shen Yi was afraid. He was afraid that she’d fail and hurt herself. With her evil relatives waiting for their chance to destroy her, Shen Yi was livid. He was going to make it known to everyone that no one could ever threaten him or anyone close to him especially Lu Xinyi.
She was now his, and he was going the extra mile to protect her with everything he had.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
His wife could sense that he was tense. With the way he held her tightly, she wondered what brought about this side of him. As Lu Xinyi looked at back at him lovingly, Shen Yi realized how silly he became.
“I met Li Qiao earlier,” he confessed. His hand started to rub her back in slow circles as he tried to find the right words to explain what happened.
“Li Qiao?” Lu Xinyi hummed. She’d heard that name before but couldn’t remember where she heard it. “Who is she?”
“Remember when I told you about the only girlfriend I ever had before meeting you? She left me seven years ago, and now, she’s one of our investors.”
Shen Yi felt her tense a bit and relaxed. She knew this would happen but never thought it would be too soon.
“So what changes now?” she asked worriedly. Did Li Qiao’s arrival affect Shen Yi that much?
“Nothing. You are still mine, but I’d prefer if you avoid meeting her. Li Qiao is no angel.” Shen Yi wondered if all of this was just a twisted coincidence or something more.
“Okay,” Lu Xinyi easily agreed. If Shen Yi thought Li Qiao was a bad story, she would rather stay away from her than to make her husband worry.
However, if Li Qiao dared to sink her claws on Shen Yi, Lu Xinyi wouldn’t mind baring her fangs to protect what was hers.
