Chapter 3167 Fortitude?
Davis looked at the person who complained with a hostile tone.
He wore a black robe, its emblem representing the Onyx Shadow Lower Realm. He also saw a few of this faction's disciples outside. Davis instantly became a bit intrigued, wondering how this so-called time limit worked that it sent the participants outside after a certain amount of time.
Furthermore, did it have to do anything with failing the challenges?
He didn't know about this matter as the assassins were one of the first ones to head inside, but they were ousted by the others instead of the temple.
He gave a good look at his surroundings, seeking anything that could answer his questions. However, all he could see was a tablet etched on the ceiling.
[Congratulations. If you have made it this far, you may have some luck in obtaining the Celestial Luminescence Pill. The first trial challenges your fortitude, the second trial challenges your body, the third trial challenges your prowess, and the fourth trial challenges your luck.]
"…"
Davis wasn't surprised as he already knew about this tablet as the assassins had also seen them. But confirming it with his own eyes, his brows couldn't help but twitch as he wondered what his luck was like. It may have been good in the beginning, but now, he didn't quite think so.
Suddenly, he heard someone yelling again, prompting him to return his gaze, only to see that black-robed man from the Onyx Shadow Lower Realm.
"You! That's right, you! Where are you looking at? Don't you know how to pay respects to the strong?"
Davis narrowed his brows.
He was about to raise his hand and deal a devastating blow when he suddenly saw a woman shake her head.
It was none other than Fairy Nila, whom he had told to leave before he could attack them.
Once he looked at her, she stopped shaking her head and looked away.
"Oh…"
Suddenly, Davis understood what was going on.
He contemplated, wondering if he would tell this to others as he looked back, but then he noticed Fairy Aila Cherryweave and Fairy Mei Novara were also there. He blinked, not having noticed them at all as he walked into the hidden temple as though he was going to cause a bloodbath, but considering Manasiz said that he couldn't take care of the Celestial Fairies, he understood why they would want to stick with him.
"Ah, the ignorant masses are so amazing. They don't even know their deaths are nigh upon them."
"Fool. Obediently bend your knees and pay respects. Otherwise, you wouldn't make it out alive."
A few people even walked towards him, stopping at a distance as they demanded that he kneel down.
"Trash-talk me all you want. I come from a place where the threat of violence is nearly absent despite all the provocation, so this is nothing to me."
Davis sighed as he let out a bored yawn.
Myria, Sophie, Niel Bladeheart, and the others also saw that the chamber was strangely quiet with no infighting when they had just arrived here, and combined with the words etched on the tablet, they vaguely felt that they shouldn't make a move.
This chamber tested their fortitude, perhaps, the ability to not fall to a provocation.
"Is that so?"
The black-robed man from the Onyx Shadow Lower Realm chuckled, his gaze suddenly falling on the people behind him.
"Woah, I didn't see the women with your trash build blocking them, but now that I see them again, they're all… beautiful!"
He abruptly pointed towards a crimson-white-robed man. It was none other than Lea, causing her to narrow her brows.
"If I'm not wrong, she has Emperor-Tier Phoenix blood, no!? What a find! I can't believe such a being ascended from some isolated world. One night! Just one night? Would you mind sending her to me?"
He appeared excited, even breathless, before he suddenly realized something was wrong before taking out a bunch of High-Level Transcendent Crystals.
"Of course, I'll pay!"
"I'll also pay no matter the cost!"
"Count me in!"
The others who stepped forward also piped in, causing the black-robed man to turn shocked.
"Damn, we're going to have a foursome!? Can she handle three of us at the same time!?"
Lea's eyes were wide. It could be seen that she was livid. She inadvertently took a step forward in rage, her undulations blooming. However, a hand suddenly blocked her path, causing her to turn to look to the side as she saw a smiling Davis.
"Don't wait for me."
"Ahaha. In that case, we'll also enjoy the other beauties if they're for sale!"
A few more men stepped forward, causing the black-robed man to be more excited.
"Oh my! Her beautiful eyes, even when angry, are like a precious jewel of the sun. I can't wait to see what she would be like when under my-"
*Bang!~* *Bang!~* *Bang!~*
Abruptly, the black-robed man's body exploded as a crimson-silver lightning bolt struck him. However, it wasn't only one lightning bolt struck but two lightning bolts, destroying the other two Transcendents who had stepped forward.
Everyone's eyes went wide as they froze. Some expressions were still smiling, but no, their eyes no longer held a mocking gaze. It was full of disbelief, even terror, as they saw three men turn into ashes in an instant.
"Impossible… their defensive talismans didn't activate…?"
Someone voiced out, making them realize how strong those three lightning bolts had to be In order to achieve this feat.
"Husband!?"
However, Bylai echoed out with a voice full of worry as she saw that Davis had gone missing.
"Relax." Myria uttered in a calm voice, "He has failed for failing the challenge, although I don't blame him."
"…"
Sophie and the others heaved a sigh of relief once they heard it from Myria's mouth, while some needed more explanation before they finally understood what was going on.
Indeed, Davis stood outside the hidden temple, lowering his hand before waving the remnant essence energy away while a myriad of cultivators shook in his presence as they could still feel his terrifying undulations.
Davis turned to look around, spotting Aric Stormsong's fiancee among the crowd as he smiled.
"I guess I don't have any fortitude to be falling provocation. Don't you think so?"
That woman's brows twitched as she failed for the same reason, but she didn't want to engage in a conversation with this frightening man, causing her to remain quiet as she lowered her head.
"How long till I can head back inside?"
"…"
"I'm asking you."
Davis's voice turned stern, causing the woman to shiver.
"An hour..."
"I see. Thanks."
Davis smiled lightly before turning to look at the hidden temple, his hand that was raised blocked by an invisible barrier that kept him from entering.
Since the Sky Pursuit Sect's assassins were one of the first ones to come here and the rules weren't explored until later, they just stood in the first floor's chamber without making any sound. That alone caused them to pass, but they didn't know what allowed them to pass, so Davis didn't know as well.
Now, he understood that attacking someone after being provoked would send the aggressor outside because they lacked fortitude. Perhaps there were more rules, but he guessed that he didn't have time as he wanted to catch up with everyone before they could meet the young geniuses Azure Dragon Upper Realm and other strong Upper Realms.
*Whoosh!~* *Whoosh!~* *Whoosh!~*
"I killed two."
"I failed to kill even though I attacked two more. There's a powerful energy that cancels out attacks at the level of Kingly Monarchs."
"I also failed…"
"…"
Davis stood there dumbfounded as he watched Myria, Sophie, Bylai, and the others appear as they all failed the first challenge.
