A few days later, Deputy Commander Lin received the order to lead his supporting troop and a team of
spirit warriors to the front line area of the Tiger Whisker Pass to patrol it for half a month.
After what had happened at the Crescent Gorge last time, Tucker had warned him to be careful a few
times before he left. However, this time, Deputy Commander Lin had Rocky under his command, so
Tucker wasn't as concerned.
Once they were on the road, the patrol team headed northwest of the Tiger Whisker Pass. This time,
they were to walk the area between the Panta Mountain and the Venomous Snake Swamp.
The Panta Mountain was the junction between the human race and the spiritual race. It was said that it
had existed since the creation of the Supreme Ether Land, and therefore, it was rich with legends. The
most famous one was that it was the entrance to the Purgatory Valley, also known as one of the three
divine lands that bordered the battlefield.
However, no human spirit warrior in history had been able to confirm this fact. And if a spirit warrior had
been able to enter it, they would not be willing to reveal it and allow the other spirit warriors in knowing
what was waiting ahead.
Out of the entire battlefield, the Panta Mountain was the only place that the human race and spiritual
race were not willing to go. This was because many fierce, supernatural beasts gathered at the foot of
the mountain for a few hundred miles. Entering it would be the equivalent to stepping into a tiger's lair.
As for the Venomous Snake Swamp, it was also nightmare-like. It was a paradise for all kinds of
poisonous insects, snakes, and beasts, and it was full of swamp traps. If one didn't take care, they
could die a horrible death in it.
If it weren't for Tucker's order, Deputy Commander Lin would have avoided this area, but he had no
choice but to bring his whole team here.
Two days later, the patrol team reached the Venomous Snake Swamp.
"Spiritual King Basil, we must cross the Venomous Snake Swamp, but it's currently too dangerous. We
need to explore it and then choose the safest route. I'll give this important task to you. Thank you in
advance," Deputy Commander Lin said to Rocky with an earnest look on his face. However, his eyes
held some viciousness. The troop began to temporarily station themselves just outside of the
Venomous Snake Swamp.
"Oh, okay. Don't worry. I've got this," Rocky replied, nodding and ignoring the weirdness of it all. There
was no reason for him to think that this task would be dangerous.
Then, Rocky stepped away from the group and entered the Venomous Snake Swamp alone.
The moment he crossed the barrier, he discovered that a miasma of despair hung over the whole
swamp. A spirit warrior would struggle to hold on, never mind an ordinary human.
Fortunately, Rocky's physique was special and his Spiritual Infant was at the premium stage, so he
barely felt uncomfortable as he walked.
However, he couldn't see any safe paths ahead of him.
After all, it was his first time here and Rocky was not very familiar with the terrain of the Venomous
Snake Swamp. It would take him hours to find a route that was usable for the troop.
On the other hand, Rocky was used to dangerous places. It didn't end up taking him as long as he had
thought to uncover a relatively safe route. Just as he was about to go back and report this to Deputy
Commander Lin, he sensed a hidden weapon flying towards him. A frown covered his face and he held
out a hand to catch it.
Within a few moments, he realized that the hidden weapon was a dart, and judging from its
appearance, it was poisonous.
Rocky immediately cast it aside, but it was too late. A sensation of weakness washed over his body.
Clearly, just touching the dart had numbed him.
Soon, a masked figure leapt out of the trees and approached Rocky. The person thrust out a sword and
pointed it at one of Rocky's vital organs.
Although Rocky was poisoned, it did not have much of an effect on him. He dodged the stabbing
motion of the sword.
However, his opponent was quick and immediately struck again, aiming at another vital organ.
Seeing this, Rocky summoned his Magic Icy Armor to create a protective shield over his whole body.
Clang!
The moment that the sword hit the Magic Icy Armor, it bounced away.
Rocky seized the opportunity to grab the figure's arm and he ripped off the mask with his other hand.
Then he stopped, stunned. The delicate face behind the mask looked so familiar.
"Shirley? Is that you? But why?" Rocky asked, looking at her with a million questions resting on the tip
of his tongue.
It was Shirley who had tried to assassinate him.
However, she didn't seem to recognize Rocky at all. Her eyes were cold and empty as she glared back
at him.
"Shirley! Don't you know who I am?" Rocky furrowed his brow. Something was definitely off about her
current behavior.
"Of course, I don't. I'm here to kill you. That's all," Shirley spat. Her face was completely deadpan.
"I won't fight with you." Rocky was sure that the person in front of him was Shirley, so he didn't want to
hurt her.
"Then you can go to hell!" Shirley's previously pale, blank face turned red with anger, and her power,
equal to that of a Spiritual Infant at the medium stage, instantly erupted from her body. Her next attack
was close to Rocky. The sword in her hand was sharp and ethereal, transforming into specks of sword
light that aimed at Rocky's vital points.
Witnessing Shirley's aggression and strong murderous will, Rocky realized that something bad must
have happened to her after she arrived in this world. She must have lost her memories and turned into
a killer.
Although that sounded somewhat dramatic, was there any plot in the world that was more dramatic
than his own? After all, he had travelled through time and space and become Basil.
"Shirley, do you really not know me? It's me! Basil!" Rocky tried to help Shirley regain her memories.
However, Shirley didn't want to listen. She only wanted to kill.
Feeling helpless, Rocky had to start taking things seriously. Shirley's Spiritual Infant was only at the
medium stage, so she was certainly not a match for him.
Not long after, he knocked her sword from her hand and it thumped on the dirt.
"Stop fighting me. You won't win!" Rocky exclaimed, kicking the sword far away.
"My task is to kill you using any method I can think of!" Apparently, Shirley was a talented killer.
Although she had lost her element of surprise, the killing intent in her eyes still blazed.
"Then I'll have to find a way to restore your memories," Rocky replied, extending his hand and pressing
his finger between Shirley's eyebrows. He used the Mysterious Beast Transformation Skill to invade
Shirley's spiritual sense and share his memories with her.
Soon, all the past moments between her and Rocky had been transplanted into her mind.
"I remember everything! You are Basil!" Shirley exclaimed as she stared at Rocky with wide eyes.
Apparently, it had worked.
"You remember," Rocky commented as he breathed a sigh of relief and withdrew his hand.
"My head hurts! How did I lose my memories?" Suddenly, Shirley couldn't bear the reappearance of her
lost memories. Her delicate face filled with pain and her body crumpled as she collapsed in Rocky's
arms.
"Don't worry. You can rest. Then we will figure it out," Rocky reassured her, holding her close.
After resting for a while, Shirley looked up at Rocky with tears in her eyes. "Basil, you're here. I missed
you so much. I thought we would never see each other again! What brought you to this world too?"
