Chapter 774: Who’s More Important, Xi Jin or Me?
Hearing this, Feng Tianlan’s body went rigid, and her face instantly turned pale. She raised her eyes and looked at Si Mobai in disbelief. It was a long while before she opened her mouth and hoarsely asked, “What did you just say?”
Si Mobai coldly repeated, “You don’t have to go. Xi Jin is dead.”
Feng Tianlan stared at him and pressed her lips together. She choked back the tears in her eyes and said, “I don’t believe it. I want to go take a look.”
Xi Jin would not die. Such a good person would not die. How could he die? He did not deserve to die.
“Lan’er, can’t you just care about me?” Si Mobai held her hand. His cold voice sounded desolate and concealed a pleading tone within.
“I’m going to see him. I want to confirm for myself with my own eyes.” Feng Tianlan shook away his hand that had been holding her wrist. She turned back slightly and glanced sideways at his tired, pale face. With a bitter voice, she said, “Mobai, I hope he is still alive.”
Si Mobai’s figure dashed forward to block the door. His beautiful eyes stared straight at her as he asked, “You’re going to leave me?”
She did not care about him. The only thing she cared about the moment she woke up was Xi Jin, not him.
“Mobai, I’m just going to take a look. And you’ve already stopped me once. Just don’t stop me again, okay?” she said.
Seeing the pleading look on Feng Tianlan’s face, Si Mobai’s eyes dimmed as he asked, “In Lan’er’s heart, who’s more important? Xi Jin or me?”
“You cannot be compared. Both of you are very important,” she replied. One was her beloved man, while the other was someone who had taken care of her for ten years like a real brother.
How could she compare them? There was no comparison at all.
“He’s dead. It’s of no use now if you go. Can’t you just care first about me? I’m still alive,” Si Mobai said.
Feng Tianlan stood there and looked up at him. She suppressed the anger in her heart as she said, “Mobai, can you not make a fuss right now? You have already stopped me once. Just let me see him this time.”
She had already done her best to save Xi Jin, so she understood why Mobai had taken her away. But she was unable to accept that Xi Jin was gone just like that.
Xi Jin should have done everything and gotten married before he took the poison to kill himself. He had long been dead in his heart. But because of Shen Yunya’s words about Feng Tianlan’s wishes and how she was still alive, he managed to live for three more years.
She could not return Xi Jin’s feelings. She could give him the cold shoulder, but she could not watch him die without feeling anything. He was a brother to her.
A lover and a brother were especially important people. She had different feelings for them, and they could not be compared. She could not give up either one of them.
“Lan’er, you threatened me once. Well, it’s my turn this time. You will go back and take good care of your health, and I will not argue over anything. But if you step out of this courtyard, then…” Si Mobai paused. He could no longer say the words he wanted to say.
He was incapable of being as determined as she was in using their relationship as a bargaining chip. He really could not threaten to do it.
“Just go.” Si Mobai looked at the shocked expression in her eyes and smiled bitterly. He moved aside to let her pass.
Because he could not say those words, all he could do was wait and see what she chose. Even if she cared just a little, even if he did not say those next words, she would choose the former. Just like him, she dared not risk it.
Feng Tianlan looked at him with mixed feelings for a while. She glanced at the doorway and turned her eyes away when she said, “Mobai, wait for me to come back.” With that, she crossed the threshold.
Whether Xi Jin was dead or alive, she had to see for herself, even if it was the last time.
Si Mobai looked at Feng Tianlan’s fleeting figure and clenched his fists tightly. He said, “If you step out of this courtyard…” He then followed her.
Feng Tianlan’s figure paused briefly in the courtyard as she glanced sideways at the man behind her and said, “Wait for me to come back.”
