Chapter 1849: Bluffing People with Mentors

Translator: Exodus Tales Editor: Exodus Tales
The Kurenai were already more hostile to outsiders. When players first arrived there, their reputation that they were always cold and indifferent.
Not to mention, Lu Li’s Charisma was incredibly low. It was too hard to truly let Alfred help him. Once he knew how the Throne of the Elements came to be, he thought of his own mentor, Garona.
It was about time to reach out and connect with his mentor again.
“Your mentor? Who is he?” Alfred asked in curiosity.
“Garona. Do you know her?”
Lu Li hesitated a moment but felt he had nothing to hide. His mentor was not someone to hide. Even though Garona was a Thief, he didn’t have any plans to become famous.
“THE Garona?…” Alfred cried out, then stopped his mouth in time.
Lu Li could imagine what he was going to say. It wasn’t going to be anything positive. It was only because that Garona was a name that was feared by people in Draenor that he dared not continue.
“My mentor will return to this land in a few days,” Lu Li said, then smiled sinisterly and continued, “She probably has some old debts to settle. We just don’t know who would be unlucky enough to run into her.”
“Yes, this is her hometown. She is free to come and go,” Alfred responded with his eyes drooped.
“Since there isn’t the clue I need here, shouldn’t you give me my rightful reward? I’ve helped you guys clear a path.”
After seeing this, Lu Li immediately became more arrogant. He was worried that his mentor’s name would not hold any weight here.
In fact, Garona’s name was far more powerful in Draenor than in Azeroth.
Garona had spent her entire life as a spy and assassin directly affiliated to Gul’dan. She had performed countless important quests, including the assassinating King Ryan of Stormwind City during the first world war. She directly caused the collapse of the Shadow Council. It was precisely because she was captured and tortured by Orgrim Doomhammer that she gave up the location of the headquarters of the Shadow Council.
Legend said that when Garona was performing assassination quests, she did not use a fast dagger, instead opting for an oddly-shaped knife. It was as if a mirage flashed the light of several blades in an instant; her prey fell immediately silent with wounds all over their body.
When she was weak and small, Orcs treated her as a feeble alien species, so they all looked down on her.
When she was unmatched, all of Draenor shuddered in fear under her blade. Alfred had experienced that time and knew the despair of all those Draenor people and Orcs who were killed by Garona.
“Actually, it’s not that there aren’t clues. At least I know that the Orc Shaman Gar’rock can communicate with the elements. Perhaps he can tell you what to do. The condition, however, is that you get him to throw aside his camp’s prejudice,” Alfred admitted with fear.
“Dear elder, your information is of no value. You’re asking me to go seek the help of an Orc,” Lu Li said, not giving in.
His expression was unforgiving. In fact, he had already noted down the name Gar’rok.
There were still some ways to work through tribal NPCs. Plus, he didn’t necessarily need to get some quest from the Gar’rok. He just needed a way to enter into the Throne of the Elements.
The Deception Orb could give Lu Li a simple disguise.
“This is indeed the clue for the Throne of Elements,” Alfred said, feeling a little awkward.
“Under normal circumstances if someone helped you guys clear a path, what would they receive as a reward?” Lu Li asked, then shamelessly threatened, “Since my friends have the ability to clear this path in such a short amount of time, it means that they also have the ability to make it very dangerous.”
“You…”
Alfred immediately turned furious.
If he wasn’t worried about Garona’s reputation, he would have lifted up his magic staff then and there.
“I helped you get the job done and you give me a reward – it’s perfectly justified. I honestly don’t understand why you’re so angry. Dear elder, you should know that there are no free meals in this world. I always believed that the Draenei was the most virtuous race,” Lu Li said unceremoniously.
If it was any other player, they could be gotten rid of easily.
As someone reborn, Lu Li knew the tricks of these NPCs. Unfortunately, these NPC didn’t know his tricks.
We have someone backing us!
A piece of level 65 Epic equipment was given into Lu Li’s hands. Unfortunately, it was for Shamans, so Lu Li had no use for it. The attributes were amazing and there were three special effects, one of which also improved Experience gain. Such an item was perfect for Sakura Memories.
Sakura Memories was currently number one on the ladder – she definitely lived up to her title of a levelling maniac.
Then, there was Experience and Reputation.
The quantity wasn’t abundant, but Lu Li was already satisfied. It was better to have something than nothing at all. Not to mention, he had already gotten the clue he wanted.
Alfred seemed relieved to watch Lu Li leave. He muttered Garona’s name as if it was like a curse that gave people a headache. Many people who were stronger than her could die in her hands.
Lu Li’s Hearthstone was already bound to Shattrath City.
Shattrath City was the new main city that was open to the public. It used to be the capital of the Draenei from Draenor. It name meant “the place of light”. After the Burning Legion provoked the Orcs to wage a war against the Draenei, this place had exploded with intense battles.
Even though the Draenei defended the capital, Shattrath City had still fallen into the hands of the enemy. The whole city was reduced to ruins, until the Sha’tar came here.
Sha’tar meant “born in the light”. They were a group of Naaru who came to the Outlands to kill the Burning Legion. The Naaru lived in the ruins of Shattrath City, and a small group of surviving Darenei priests insisted on undertaking their holy rites in the ruins of the temples in the city.
Along with the message of the Sha’tar’s arrival spreading, these so called Aldor priests quickly gained new life.
The rebuilding project of Shattrath City immediately began. If it wasn’t for another group of invaders coming in, the rebuilding work could have been finished.
The attack this time was from Illidan Stormrage. Illidan’s ally, Kael’thas, sent a large team of Blood Elves to besiege this city every day.
When the Blood Elf army was crossing the big bridge, Aldor’s bishops and believers also marched out to defend the Holy Light Dome. But then, something unexpected followed after that – the Blood Elves dropped their weapons in front of the guards.
The leader of the army was one called Voren’thal. This Blood Elf elder rushed into the Holy Light Dome to greet him. Once he saw the Naaru, Voren’thal kneeled down and said, “I had once seen your illusion, Naaru. Only you can save my people. My followers and I are willingly at your service.”
The defection of Voren’thal and his followers was the most serious one to have ever occurred in Kael’thas’ forces.
At the same time, this also caused a massive shock to other Blood Elves. Many of Kael’thas’ best wise men and mages began to waver. The Naaru accepted the devotees who were renamed Scryers. They lived on the south side of Shattrath City in the Scryers’ Tower. Only those who were accepted by the Scryers could enter into it.
The Scryers were one of the six major Reputations of the Shattrath City, and were enemies with the Aldor.
Aldor was a follower of the Holy Light. Forgiveness and salvation were their doctrines, but they could not forget what the Scryers had done under Kael’thas. Indeed, those Mages who now served the Naaru had killed many of Aldor’s members.
Aldor’s temple and other buildings were situated on the west side of Shattrath City’s A’dal Highlands, where the whole city could be seen.
As Aldor’s sacred grounds, only those who were accepted were allowed to enter the Temple.
Players needed to make a choice between these two camps. This was limited within Shattrath City. The players in other locations still used tribal alliances to distinguish between enemies and friends.
Even though it had been impacted by the Scryers’ betrayal, the attack of Shattrath City did not stop.
However, Strattath City did not fall.
In fact, it was quite the opposite. Under the leadership of the Naaru, Synrae, Aldor and the Scryers mounted a successful raid on the ‘front yard’ of Illidan – Moon Shadow Valley. However, these two hostile camps were not able to give up their differences. Both sides competed fiercely for the glory of assisting Syndrae.
Aldor decided everyday who was to be sent forward, while the chosen warriors needed to go to Moon Shadow Valley and gather in front of the Holy Light Dome to accept Aldor’s blessings. Adventurers who want to help Shattrath needed to align with Aldor or the Scryers. Of course, the side that the players sought help from would result in dissatisfaction from the other.
It was here that the newly built gateway would be and correspond to the main cities of the mainland.
It would probably be finished by the time the next System update was done. At the moment, Lu Li could only find a Mage to help open the door for him. The goal was Azeroth’s old mainland, where he would soon meet his mentor.
When Lu Li returned, Garona was in the middle of a battle.
