Chapter 892: Is My Daughter-in-Law Beautiful?
Yan Qingsi had originally prepared plenty of ways to greet them during the meeting. Suddenly, she was at a loss for words.
Was it real?
She was still alive?
What the h*ll?
Yan Qingsi craned her head to look at Yue Tingfeng. He had a blank expression on as well. She turned her attention towards Mrs. Yue again, who had not recovered from the shock of being ignored by her own mother.
Grandpa Su also stared intently at Yan Qingsi’s face. She assumed that the elders did not like girls with heavy makeup on, so she only applied some sunscreen for the visit. She did not even put on light makeup.
However, it was because of her bare face that she looked even more alike with the person in the photo from decades ago.
Goosebumps prickled all over Yan Qingsi as she continued to be stared at. “Mrs–Mrs Su,” she said. “You–you said what was similar?”
Su Little Three stepped in to relieve them. “Grandma, shouldn’t we let Auntie and her family rest first?”
Grandma Su chuckled, finally responding. “I was flustered because you look so similar to an old friend of mine. Come in first. The journey must be tiring for all of you.”
Then Yan Qingsi was dragged into the living room of the Sus’ house.
A flash of understanding washed over Yan Qingsi; she finally knew where Mrs. Yue got her temper from.
Also, Grandma Su was in great shape. She had plenty of strength.
“Take a seat, take a seat…” she said to Yan Qingsi.
Yue Tingfeng sat beside Yan Qingsi. His grandma’s attitude toward Yan Qingsi was a complete 180-degree change now, simply because Qingsi resembled an old friend of hers?
“Mom, isn’t my daughter-in-law beautiful?” Mrs. Yue said to Grandma Su.
Grandma Su nodded her head. “She’s beautiful. Very beautiful…”
She kept staring at Yan Qingsi’s face. No matter from which angle she studied her—from the front, from the side—she looked so similar. “You…You’ve always been a Luo city girl,” she could not keep the question in anymore, “Are your parents from Luo city too?”
Yan Qingsi bobbed her head. “That’s right. We are all from Luo city. We lived in a village nearby when I was younger. My parents were both from Luo city as well.”
“Then did your mother tell you about her younger days?” Grandma Su asked another question. “For instance…before she was five…”
Yan Qingsi’s face remained expressionless; her hands clenched ever so slightly. “My mother died when I was young,” she said. “I was eight when she passed away. She never told me stories about her younger days. When she was young, her family was extremely poor, and they always suffered. There’s nothing interesting to be said about that.”
Grandma Su was a little disappointed. “Then did your mother…” she began to ask.
Mrs. Yue could not listen on any longer. “Mom, what are you doing? Conducting a census? I won’t be happy if you continue to be like this. We didn’t even get to drink a sip of water since our arrival. We’re guests. Do you treat all guests this way?”
Grandma Su finally came to her senses. She looked at Yan Qingsi; she did not seem angry, but her impassive features made it obvious that…she did not like the questions.
Grandpa Su looked at his companion. She had asked her questions too rashly.
Awkwardness seized Grandma Su. “Oh. I was so happy that I forgot about it. Little Three, quickly get some tea for them…”
“Tingfeng’s grandma was a little excited when she saw you,” Grandpa Su told Yan Qingsi, “She did not mean anything else when she asked those questions. Please don’t mind her too much… We wanted you to come because we wanted to meet you. You’ll be coming here often if you marry Tingfeng in the future anyway. Why not introduce yourself first? This…is a small gift from us two oldies. We can’t keep up with the current trends anymore, so maybe you won’t like what we picked out.”
