Chapter 878: I Will Let You Sleep On The Bed Tonight
Yan Qingsi slowly put her foot down, raising her hand to pinch his chin. “You’re such a sweet talker.”
“I’m not a sweet talker,” Yue Tingfeng said with utmost solemnity, “I did mention before that every word, every sentence represents my most honest thoughts.
He secretly wiped his sweat. Jeez. That was close. Otherwise, he would have been kicked off again. This was way too dangerous.
Seriously, liking a woman who loved booting people without any reason meant that you would not have the chance to finish a sentence before you get kicked off the bed.
Yan Qingsi’s eyelids opened. “Really…”
Yue Tingfeng nodded his head vigorously. “Truly, absolutely, really.”
Yan Qingsi’s lips quirked at the corners. “Good. I’ll let you sleep on the bed tonight.”
The corners of Yue Tingfeng’s mouth twitched. “Thank you for this reward, dear.”
“Go to sleep. Don’t wake me up if I’m still asleep in the morning.”
“Of course.”
…
In the morning, Yue Tingfeng breezed down the stairs, feeling refreshed and energetic. Mrs. Yue flashed him a warm smile.
Yue Tingfeng smirked and rubbed his nose. “I’m going to the office,” he said after he finished his breakfast. “Don’t disturb Qingsi if she hasn’t come down. Let her have a good rest.”
Mrs. Yue waved her hand. “I knew that a long time ago. You don’t have to tell me that. Just go.”
At ten in the morning, Yan Qingsi was jolted awake by her phone ringing. She saw an unknown number and hesitated before answering, “Hello?”
“Miss Yan, sorry for disturbing,” a gnarly, grating voice rang out from the other side of the phone. “I’m Ye Jiangong. I called you because I wanted to invite you to Ye Lingzhi’s funeral. As her stepdaughter, you should attend your stepmother’s funeral.”
Yan Qingsi was still sleepy, but she immediately woke up when she heard this voice. Her eyes suddenly sparked with hatred. “That’s right,” she said, “I should!”
“The funeral is tomorrow morning. I hope that you’ll be here on time, Miss Yan.”
“I will be extremely punctual,” Yan Qingsi replied.
Not a lick of sleepiness hazed over Yan Qingsi once she hung up the phone.
Ye Lingzhi’s funeral…
Ye Lingzhi died because she was assassinated. The police would never have agreed to return the body to the family if they had not clarified the cause of death.
It looked like Ye Jiangong called her to show off. He wanted to tell her that the police had solved Ye Lingzhi’s murder—and if it was solved, that solidified Ye Shaoguang’s position as the murderer.
Yan Qingsi could not lie down any longer. She got up, washed her face, and got dressed.
She went down but did not see Mrs. Yue. “Where’s everyone?” she asked Aunt Wu.
“Madam and Mianmian went to the supermarket.”
Yan Qingsi called Yue Tingfeng while she was eating since Ji Mianmian was not around. “How’s the case with Ye Shaoguang going?” she asked.
“Pretty good,” Yue Tingfeng replied. “Helan said he has a firm grip on the case. We’ll be able to bail him out in a few days. Why?”
Yan Qingsi told him about Ye Jiangong’s recent call. “Ye Lingzhi’s funeral is tomorrow. I’m worried that the police have already closed the case. If that’s the case, Ye Shaoguang may very well be convicted as a murderer. It’ll be troubling on our end.”
Yue Tingfeng’s face paled. “I know. Helan knows more than we do though,” he said, “He said that the odds are against Ye Shaoguang, but there isn’t any concrete evidence that explicitly proves Ye Shaoguang is the murderer. The most that could happen is Ye Shaoguang remaining in lockup for a few more days. When the case is finally taken to court, he has the capability to get Ye Shaoguang out of there completely free of charges.”
Yan Qingsi nodded her head. “That’s good. If Ye Shaoguang’s case is like this now, isn’t it unwise for us to go out…”
She did not manage to complete her sentence when a noise rang out from behind. Yan Qingsi twisted her body and saw Ji Mianmian and Mrs. Yue standing behind her.
