Chapter 872: The Exact Same Faces
Grandpa Su walked over slowly. He had not seen his wife like this in a long time, her voice so full of shock that her pitch had completely changed. “What’s wrong?” he asked as he walked over, “What’s the fuss about?”
Grandma Su pointed at the television, her entire body trembling with agitation. “TV, TV, TV… Look at the TV.”
The camera had shifted its focus onto Qin Jingzhi’s face; there was no Yan Qingsi within sight. Doubt crossed Grandpa Su’s expression. “Look at what? There’s nothing to look at.”
Grandma Su turned pale, panicking. “Little Five, that–that…”
Soon after, the camera focused on Yan Qingsi again. Little Five pointed at Yan Qingsi. “She…”
Grandma Su leaped to her feet in excitement. “Look! Look!… She looks like like Peiwan. She looks just like her… I didn’t see wrongly…”
Grandpa Su saw it too this time. He was more composed than his companion, but he was still stunned.
Grandma Su tugged at the sleeve of his shirt. “Look, look… She looks so much like Peiwan. They practically have the same face…”
Grandpa Su’s wits finally returned to him. “Don’t panic. Let me see…” he said, “Little Five, get me my glasses.”
Little Five quickly brought his longsighted glasses over. The old man put them on.
In the program, the host was asking Yan Qingsi to divulge any scandalous occurrences that concerned Qin Jingzhi during the shooting of their drama.
Yan Qingsi shook her head and replied that there was none. She told the host that the Movie King Qin was a seasoned actor who had a pretty clean slate. There was basically nothing scandalous that she could divulge; you could even say that he was boring.
Grandpa Su studied that face, then looked at the photo.
It was a monochrome photograph, extremely old with about four or five decades of history behind it. There were two young women on the photo wearing qipaos, smiling sweetly. The person on the right was the image of Grandma Su in her younger days, whereas the person on her left was about the same age, but the woman on the left looked very similar to Yan Qingsi.
It was not as though they were exact photocopies of each other, but their features probably showed an 80% similarity.
Grandpa Su observed everything ten times over before deciding that he had not gotten it wrong. “It’s true…” he mumbled at last, “They look the same…”
Not a single person spoke in the living room asides from the voices blaring from the television.
Little Five sat upright on the couch, intently watching the television.
The program ran for about an hour, including advertisements. He watched everything attentively. He only turned the television off when the show ended.
It was already late. “I’m going to bed, Grandpa, Grandma,” he said.
Grandma Su and Grandpa Su did not respond for a while. They slowly recovered their wits. “Little Five,” Grandma Su asked, “she–is–whose…”
“She’s Yan Qingsi. My cousin sister-in-law,” Little Five answered.
Grandma Su found it hard to believe. “She… is Yan Qingsi… She… How could she…”
Grandma Su wanted to say, how could this Yan Qingsi look so similar to her best friend of her younger days.
She remembered how her daughter had asked them to meet Yan Qingsi before, but they had refused to see her. Now she felt a pinch of regret when she thought about it.
“Do you remember the time at the airport, when I said that I saw someone who really resembled Peiwan?” Grandma Su directed the question toward her companion.
Grandpa Su nodded his head. “I remember…”
“It’s her! The person I saw at the airport was her. Tell me, how can such a doppelganger exist in this world?” Grandma Su said, her voice raw with emotion, “Could there be some sort of relationship between this Yan Qingsi and Peiwan? Should we ask Peiwan?”
Grandpa Su pondered on the matter silently for a while. Anyone would immediately establish a link between the two after seeing how much they resembled each other, but… but…
