Chapter 768: You Were Not Trying to Sabotage Me?
Yue Tingfeng sat down. “Jiang Lai called?” Mrs. Yue asked.
Yue Tingfeng put the phone down and picked up a slice of watermelon. “That’s right. He loves to loaf around on the job. He’ll whine to me if I don’t go to work for half a day and urge me to come. Says that the company can’t run without me. Actually, he’s just looking for an excuse to laze around.”
Mrs. Yue gave Yue Tingfeng a fisheye. “Sure, as if I don’t know you. Jiang Lai is an excellent worker. He’s just unlucky to have an unreliable boss like you.”
“Mom, how can you blame me? I paid him highly, yet he keeps giving me things to do. I wanted to let myself relax a bit, you know. It’s me who’s unlucky for having such a lazy subordinate. I just happen to be able to keep my temper.”
“Then just fire him. You’re not the type to sit back and take abuse.”
“How can I do that?” Yue Tingfeng replied in s serious tone serious. “If I fire him, others will say that I’m such an unreasonable boss. Didn’t you always tell me that we shouldn’t abuse our power? I’m just heeding your words of wisdom.”
“Oh? As if the real situation is like that…”
The doorbell rang as the mother-son pair conversed. Aunt Wu brought two people in not long after. “Ma’am… young Mr. Helan and Miss Helan are here to visit.”
The smiles on Yue Tingfeng and Mrs. Yue faces dimmed simultaneously.
Before, Mrs. Yue only hated Mrs. Helan. Now though… she did not like Helan Fangnian and Helan Xiuse all that much either.
They were respectful to her, but they were Helan-s. She could not help a sense of intense dislike towards them.
Yue Tingfeng raised his head to look at Helan Fangnian. “Why did you come?” he asked, smiling.
Mrs. Yue noticed that her son was barely managing the smile, and he did not let them sit down. It was awkward, so she asked the two of them to take a seat.
Helan Fangnian did not sit. He glanced at Helan Xiuse and said, “Auntie, we apologize for the surprise visit. We came here today to ask for forgiveness. That time, I didn’t clarify everything before lashing out at you. I’m sorry.”
Mrs. Yue stared at Yue Tingfeng in shock. She did not quite comprehend the words.
Yue Tingfeng did not say anything. He just pulled out a tissue paper and wiped the watermelon juice off his fingers.
“Xiuse…” Helan Fangnian cried out.
Helan Fangnian stepped forward, her head bowed low. “Tingfeng, I’m sorry. I – I – I’m sorry. I… didn’t mean it… I’m so sorry for what happened at that time!”
“What?” Yue Tingfeng’s smile was hardly a smile. “You weren’t trying to sabotage me? ”
Helan Xiuse waved her hands anxiously. “No, no, no. That – that’s not what I want… I’m so sorry. Please forgive me,” she said.
Helan Xiuse’s face burned red. She wanted to explain, but she did not know how to properly explain everything.
Her mother had been dragged into that incident, and it did not matter if she had been willing or unwilling—she had done it. Still, she could not say that her mother was wrong, so this was a very awkward apology for her.
“What are you talking about?” Mrs. Yue could not help but ask. “I don’t understand anything.”
“It’s nothing, Mom. It’s all in the past.” Yue Tingfeng turned his head and said, “If you want to come and apologize, forget about it. Just say your piece and go.”
Yue Tingfeng did not want to see the siblings; they were simply a nuisance.
He wanted to quickly chase them away, and he especially did not want Yan Qingsi to see Helan Fangnian.
Unfortunately, he could not prevent that from happening—Yan Qingsi’s voice rang out from the staircase as soon as he finished his sentence: “I also want to know what are you all talking about. Why are you… apologizing? Let’s discuss this together!”
Everyone turned their head and looked at her.
