Chapter 736: I Will Not Let Anything Happen to You
You Yi’s voice was low yet harsh. It was as though he was screaming with all his might in those words, inducing anxiety in those who heard the suppressed emotions in his voice.
Yan Qingsi stopped because of those words. She turned around to look directly into You Yi’s eyes. She finally saw the chaos and madness that hid behind those eyes.
Yan Qingsi suddenly smiled. It had been five days. You Yi was probably at his limit.
Her lips quirked at the corners. “You should know this,” she said with a provocative grin, her stare as cold as ice, “Why are you asking me?”
You Yi’s bloodshot eyes looked as though they could swallow Yan Qingsi whole. “I’m letting you tell me yourself,” he grounded the words out. “Where is she?”
Yan Qingsi had walked through madness, destruction, darkness, hell—and she had emerged alive. She understood what You Yi was experiencing right now. Madness, despair, disappointment. He was placing the last straw on Yan Qingsi’s back.
Yan Qingsi looked at him and felt like she was looking at her past self. After her mother died, there was a long period where she refused to accept that fact.
It was as though she was crazy. She adamantly believed that her mother would return, that she would continue to make meals for her and gently call out her name.
That was not the worst of it though. The worst part was when one finally opened one’s eyes to reality, allowed its cruelty to dash all one’s hopes into splinters, and forced oneself to look at the world without them. It was when one faced all the ugliness of the world by oneself.
The smile on Yan Qingsi’s face died down. “Maybe now living in a lie is the best way for you,” she said impassively.
“You must tell me,” You Yi pressured Yan Qingsi.
Yan Qingsi frowned. “This is Luo City, not Hai City. If you dare raise a hand against me, I will—”
“I won’t do anything to you,” You Yi interrupted before she could complete her sentence. “I won’t let anyone else harm you either. Since I’ve met you, I won’t let her daughter come to any harm, but you have to tell me. Where. Is. She.”
Yan Qingsi had suspected You Yi before, unsure of whether he was good or bad. However, his current countenance made her believe that he was not putting on an act. If someone could act like that, it was only right if she was cheated.
“You want to know that badly?”
“I’ve wanted to know for 17 years,” You Yi replied.
17 years. 17 years ago, Yan Qingsi was only eight.
“Fine. I’ll tell you. I’ll take you to see her. On one condition, don’t regret it. I’ll take you to see how she’s doing now.”
Whether his desire to know was genuine or fake, she would fulfill his wish.
Yan Qingsi looked at Xiao Xu and Ji Mianmian, who constantly stared at You Yi with caution. “Go back first, the two of you,” she told them.
Ji Mianmian shook her head. “We’re going with you, Sis.”
“No. I’ll go with him alone,” Yan Qingsi said. “Both of you should go back first. Don’t tell me otherwise. I’ve already made up my mind.”
The two could only stare helplessly as Yan Qingsi got onto You Yi’s car and left.
“Oh no. What should we do? What if something goes wrong?” Ji Mianmian cried out in panic. “You Yi is definitely up to no good. You’ve seen his nephew, You Xi. You’ve seen how rotten he is. Do you think his uncle would be any better than that piece of trash?”
Xiao Xu nodded his head in agreement.
You Xi was a piece of trash, but he was also a man—a normal man. He would not do anything so recklessly mean.
