Chapter 491: Setting Her Up
“Of course, the hint was also fake. We tricked you into believing it was the real one. I also mentioned that I’d have someone check the IP address of the one who submitted the post tonight, which caused you to panic even more. It forced you to have to destroy all the evidence that I had collected on my laptop before tonight. With all that planning, all we had to do was wait and see who came back to our room and touched my laptop before tonight. Only the poster would do that.” Tan Mo then smiled at Lin Fuxi. “I also set up a software on my laptop that when someone entered the wrong password three times, the screen would go black. Muye intentionally said that the password was a birthdate. When you first entered my birthdate, it was the wrong one. You would then realize that Muye had only mentioned that it was someone’s birthdate, not mine. You’d then start entering the birthdate of the people that are the closest to me, starting from my family to Uncle.”
Lin Fuxi was now covered in a cold sweat as a chill ran down her spine.
She finally realized how terrifying Tan Mo was, to the point where she even doubted Tan Mo was human anymore.
Tan Mo had perfectly read through Lin Fuxi and come up with a plan right on the spot according to that.
The plan was executed perfectly.
“Of course, the password isn’t anyone’s birthdate,” Tan Mo continued to explain. “Since I was trying to bait you, I’d never hint the real password to you. Also, the software that I set up has another function. Not only will it make the screen turn black, but it will also turn on the camera automatically and link it to the main screen at the campus plaza. Everyone who’s there now could hear all your mumbles and see what you were doing. So, the screen did not go black because you accidentally dropped my laptop on the floor. It was because you entered the password wrong three times.”
Lin Fuxi was completely speechless now. Everything had gone perfectly according to Tan Mo’s plan.
What shocked Lin Fuxi even more was the fact that Tan Mo was live-streaming everything.
Of course, she now knew that she was being watched by everyone at the campus plaza. When she was in the room just now, she was alone and would naturally think that no one would notice what she was doing.
Yet, the truth was that the whole campus saw and heard everything, down to her mumbles and complaints.
Those were words that came directly out of her mouth. That was the best evidence.
That was the first time in all of Lin Fuxi’s life that she regretted not fixing the bad habit of saying her thoughts aloud when she was thinking.
All she could do was blame herself for procrastinating on that. Otherwise, there was no way that Tan Mo would be able to catch her red-handed that easily.
“Even if you thought that you had damaged my laptop since the screen went black, you also knew that all the data was still in there. That’s why you decided to take my laptop away instead. What you didn’t know was that I installed a motion sensor on my table. As soon as my laptop left the table, the device sensed it and a small camera popped out to continuously monitor your actions. That’s why everyone knows what you’ve done, including when you tried to lie to the lecturers.”
As Tan Mo said that, Qin Muye walked into the room with her hand held up. In her hand was a smartphone.
“We can watch the live stream on our smartphones too,” Qin Muye said as she waved her phone in front of Lin Fuxi.
Lin Fuxi could clearly see that on the screen was her and Tan Mo.
“So? Can any of these prove that I’m the one who posted that?” Lin Fuxi asked after recalling what she had mumbled about. She realized that nothing she had said could directly tie her to the post on the forum. “I-I wanted to break your computer because I was jealous of you.”
“Is that so?” Tan Mo smiled. “Then, you’re stealing my stuff. Mr. Ji, what does our university do to people who steal?”
“They will be expelled,” Mr. Ji said with a cold expression.
The color drained from Lin Fuxi’s face instantly when she heard that.
It took her a lot of studying and hard work to get into Beijing University. What was more was that she was already in her junior year.
There was no way she could risk an expulsion when she was about to graduate in a little more than a year.
If she was expelled during her freshman year, she could always wait for a year and study at another university.
If she were to get expelled in her junior year, she would have to become a university freshman again at the age of 21.
It would be extremely embarrassing for her to be classmates with 17- and 18-year-olds.
To make matters worse, the town she lived in wasn’t big. Not only her town, but the whole of Jiaoyuan City had also heard about her getting accepted into Beijing University.
No matter how she explained it, there was no way she could clear the embarrassment of being expelled by the university.
“Momo.” It was then, Wei Zhiqian’s voice came from outside the room.
Tan Mo turned around and saw Wei Zhiqian standing outside with Zhou Jingan and Yu Hanxia.
They stopped outside the door and did not step into the room as they felt it would be disrespectful to step into the lady’s room without any proper reason, especially not when most ladies would simply hang more private clothing around the room since men could barely get into their dorm.
That was why Wei Zhiqian was reluctant to step inside.
“Go help her,” Wei Zhiqian said to Yu Hanxia while he and Zhou Jingan waited outside.
Yu Hanxia nodded and entered the room alone while the two other men did not.
“Tan Mo,” she greeted.
“Ms. Yu,” Tan Mo greeted back and turned to Wei Zhiqian. “Uncle, why aren’t you coming in?”
“It’s disrespectful for me to go into a lady’s room,” the man explained.
Naturally, the conversation was recorded by the camera as well.
Even though the people watching could not see Wei Zhiqian, they could recognize his voice.
When they heard Wei Zhiqian’s reason for not going in, they couldn’t help but gasp.
“Wow! The Wei Family did really well on their education!” one of the adults exclaimed. “That Wei Zhiqian is a textbook gentleman!”
“Well, if we really want to compare, then gentlemen like Wei Zhiqian are the reason why some people seem disgusting.”
“This is probably the comparison between a gentleman and a pervert that we see on the news lately.”
“If I’m not wrong, Tan Mo has been addressing Wei Zhiqian as her uncle ever since she was a kid, right? With how respectful and gentlemanly Wei Zhiqian is, I get why the Tan Family isn’t afraid to leave Tan Mo with Wei Zhiqian alone. I mean, anyone would be relieved if they left their daughters with Wei Zhiqian.”
Yu Hanxia took her tablet out and showed the screen to the camera. “Tan Mo has found out that the post was made from an Internet cafe outside the campus. We went to the internet café. The owner was kind enough to show us the CCTV recordings. We didn’t find any suspicious person entering the Internet café around the time the post was made. However, since we already had a suspect, it wasn’t hard for us to locate her in the recordings.”
Yu Hanxia played the video on her tablet before continuing with her explanation. “Lin Fuxi went to Jiaoyuan City to recruit new freshmen for the university. She returned back to the campus with her team around 3 p.m. yesterday. However, according to Lin Fuxi’s roommates, she didn’t return to the dorm until it was 4 p.m. So, this begs the question as to where she went during that one-hour period? That’s why we watched the Internet cafe’s CCTV recording of 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. from the day before. Guess what we found? Lin Fuxi entered the internet cafe with her suitcase at around 3:15 p.m.”
Yu Hanxia paused the video and highlighted Lin Fuxi on the screen with a red circle.
