Chapter 353: The Party
“Your brother’s still at work.” Dong Hanbi said in a scolding voice as she glared at Qin Zhenglu. “He wants to be here, but your father wanted to come early so he pushed all the work onto your brother. So, basically, while your lazy father is relaxing here, your brother’s still busy at work.”
Dong Hanbi couldn’t help but feel sorry for her son as he was the one who had planned the whole birthday party.
From the initial planning to booking the hot springs resort and inviting the guests, Qin Mufeng had done it all alone. He didn’t even let anyone else handle the minor details.
Yet now the sole planner for Qin Muye’s party couldn’t even come and see the surprised expression on her face.
On the other hand, Qin Zhenglu, the person who had not participated much in the planning, was able to enjoy himself by tossing all of his work to his son.
It was frustrating.
“Your brother has booked the whole resort for us. But we are the only people here now. The rest of the guests won’t be here until tomorrow,” Dong Hanbi said to her daughter. “The people here today are the people you are close with, so you can just relax and enjoy the night.”
Ever since their family had gotten rich, there were a lot of things they had to think of.
Even though Qin Muye’s grandparents didn’t come, they had prepared gifts for their lovely granddaughter.
However, they still had to invite the rest of the Qin family.
People like Qin Zhenglu’s brother, Qin Zhengdu, who was also Qin Murong and Qin Muxiao’s father, had to be invited.
The other guests included some of the family’s best friends and their families.
This included the Wei family, so Wei Keli had also been invited.
These people had to be invited even if Qin Mufeng didn’t want to invite them.
The Tan family could avoid inviting people they didn’t want at Tan Mo’s party, for example, Yuan Keqing. However, the Qin family could not get away with that.
And when the guests arrived the next day, the birthday girl, Qin Muye, had to entertain the guests.
Most of the time, birthday parties were actually tiring instead of exciting.
To make matters worse, Qin Murong and Qin Muxiao would be present as well.
Unfortunately for Qin Muye, her birthday party wouldn’t be as easygoing as Tan Mo’s was.
That was why Qin Mufeng had booked the resort a day early so that at least for a day, his little sister would be surrounded by those who were her real friends, and so that she could enjoy her stay at the resort without any worries.
“Brother is the best!” Even though Qin Mufeng wasn’t present, Qin Muye was still thankful.
“Why don’t you kids go have some fun? Just pretend that we adults aren’t here.” Dong Hanbi smiled.
Qin Muye quickly ran over toward Tan Mo, who was talking to her parents and three older brothers.
The girls laughed and dragged Ming Yeqing to explore the resort together.
…
At Beijing University, Wei Keli had just finished his class for the day and was about to head home. He had to prepare for the trip to the hot springs resort with his parents the next day.
Just as he was walking down the stairs, someone called out to him from behind, “Brother Keli!”
The person who called him had an excited tone, but it contained a hint of arrogance as well.
The tone was easy to identify.
Wei Keli didn’t need to turn around to know that it was Qin Muxiao who was calling him.
Even though Qin Muxiao wasn’t the best in her studies, she was still way better than Yuan Keqing.
However, her high school graduation exam score hadn’t been enough to get her into Beijing University. The only reason she had gotten in and Yuan Keqing hadn’t was because she was from the Qin family. They always had a way to solve any problems that were thrown at them.
With some backdoors opened and extra scores that Qin Muxiao had accumulated from other activities, she was able to get accepted into Beijing University.
The other reason was that Beijing University had a new enrollment requirement.
One was that they wanted to get as many talented and genius students as they could.
The other was that they wanted children from prestigious families to attend their university because these people had connections and resources.
It was through these resources and connections that the university could continue to foster the truly talented students.
It was a win-win situation. The children from prestigious families would gain a degree from one of the top universities.
That was why Beijing University added new criteria.
Just like foreign universities, they started to accept students who excelled in extracurricular activities. Helping society by giving back was an important asset as well.
That was the main reason that Qin Muxiao had gotten accepted into the university. With the fund that her father had set up in her name, she got a lot of extra points for helping society and enrolled in Beijing University as a special case.
However, only four people would get such special treatment every year, and there was no way Yuan Keqing could ever be one of them.
Wei Keli turned around and saw Qin Muxiao standing behind him.
Even though Qin Muxiao’s personality was annoying to him, even though he looked down on her for using such a lowly method to get into Beijing University, he still treated her with respect.
“Xiao Xiao,” Wei Keli greeted her with a warm smile.
Qin Muxiao had already heard from Qin Murong that Wei Keli was an idiot.
She wouldn’t have come to him for help if she had had any other options.
If Qin Murong didn’t think much of Wei Keli, then Qin Muxiao would look at him the same way as well.
She thought she had controlled her facial expression well. Indeed, she did not show any sign of the fact that she was looking down on him, but she could not hide her arrogant attitude.
Fortunately for her, she had been that way since she was a kid, and Wei Keli didn’t think much of it.
“My sister is waiting at the gates. She’s not coming in. We have something to discuss with you,” Qin Muxiao said. She was only there to pass on a message.
Naturally, Wei Keli wouldn’t say no to Qin Murong’s request. “Is that so? Let’s go meet up with her then.”
Qin Muxiao nodded and quickly followed Wei Keli.
On their way to the gates, QIn Muxiao asked, “Brother Keli, you are attending Qin Muye’s birthday party tomorrow, right?”
“Yes,” Wei Keli nodded. Of course, he would be attending, even when he wasn’t very fond of Qin Muye because she was rude to him every time they met.
Qin Muye was completely different from the arrogant Qin Muxiao.
Other than those like Wei Zhiqian and Qin Mufeng, people who were from big families, Qin Muxiao would look down on almost everyone else. No one else could catch her attention. They were nothing more than mere mortals.
However, Qin Muye was completely different. Unlike her cousin, she was nice to everyone. She wasn’t arrogant, nor would she look down on others.
The only time Qin Muye would act like that was when she met Wei Keli. She would tilt her head up and scoff at him before turning her head to avert her gaze from him.
Her attitude toward him showed that she didn’t like him.
Wei Keli had no idea why Qin Muye hated him so much, even when he had been Tan Mo’s friend.
At the thought of that, Wei Keli suddenly stopped.
It was true that Wei Keli and Tan Mo used to be good friends in the past, but he wondered if they could even still be considered as friends now.
If they were, then he couldn’t understand why Tan Mo wouldn’t accept his confession.
Seeing Wei Keli suddenly halt, Qin Muxiao asked, “Brother Keli, what’s wrong?”
