Chapter 296: Such a Good Thing
Xu Mingjing was surprised. It seemed that her sister had changed into someone she did not know.
“Didn’t you only miss the examination for one subject?” Xu Mingzhen said coldly. “Then score full marks for your remaining subjects. With your extra credits from art, it shouldn’t be a problem getting into Beijing University.”
Yuan Keqing felt as if she was going to explode from anger.
If she had been able to score full marks, she would not have taken the art examination.
“Our Mo Mo is outstanding. Since her capabilities were not given to her by you, then they have nothing to do with you, and there is no reason for you to shirk your own responsibility. If you yourself are capable, even if Wei Zhiqian blocked your way and stopped you from taking an examination, you could still enroll at Beijing University.”
“Mom, what you said is not right,” Tan Jinqi said.
Xu Mingzhen: “……”
She felt a little dazed. How was it not right?
“If Yuan Keqing had been capable, she would not have sabotaged Mo Mo’s high school leaving examinations out of jealousy in the first place. She would have competed with Mo Mo fairly. Then again, if she was capable, she would have taken the high school leaving examinations when Mo Mo did. She wouldn’t have needed to wait until now,” Tan Jinqi smiled, explaining in an especially gentle tone.
Xu Mingzhen: “……”
She was astonished.
Her oldest son had such an evil tongue.
“What exactly do Auntie and Cousin want?” Tan Mo tilted her head and looked at them with a confused expression. “Both of you have been circling around this topic ever since your arrival. What do you want to achieve after figuring out who was responsible for you being late for your exam?”
“Yes, just say what you exactly want,” Tan Wenci said, annoyed.
“Previously, a single phone call from Yuan Keqing caused Mo Mo to submit her exam paper early. Didn’t we accept what happened? Wasn’t that your intention at that time? Since the matter has come to this, even if we pursued the matter, we would not be able to change anything. We were unable to continue pursuing the matter based on your shameless reasoning.” Tan Jinsheng sneered. “So, what do you want now?”
To prevent them from beating around the bush any longer, Xu Mingzhen reminded them, “It is best for you to say what you want. If you are going to keep going around in circles and are not willing to say what you want, then you might as well leave.”
Xu Mingjing knew that Xu Mingzhen was serious.
She looked at Yuan Zhengwen who was giving her a signal with his eyes.
Even Yuan Keqing was discreetly pulling at the hem of Xu Mingjing’s clothing.
Xu Mingjing wrung her hands and said, “Sister, I…I am worried that even if there are extra credits from the art examination, it will still be difficult for Keqing to enter Beijing University.
“After all, she will be lacking the marks from an entire subject.” If Yuan Keqing had had good enough grades, then she would not have needed to take the art examination.
However, weren’t her grades average?
“At first, we were planning for Keqing to take the examinations as per her usual performance, plus the grades from the art examination, and we figured she would not have any problem entering Beijing University,” Xu Mingjing said carefully. She did not want to be too direct and imply that Yuan Keqing didn’t have very good grades.
“But now, to lose so many marks for no reason…” Xu Mingjing said. “I think it puts Keqing in a little danger.
“We were thinking that Mo Mo is very capable. President Mu of Beijing University personally invited her to attend when she scored full marks in the high school leaving examination.” Xu Mingjing had to speak politely even though she had a bad taste in her mouth.
It was all right if there was some distance. If the distance was not too enormous, then there would not be an imbalance emotionally.
However, the distance between Tan Mo and Yuan Keqing was way too large.
Tan Mo had scored full marks and the presidents of famous universities had come to personally invite her to join them.
As for Yuan Keqing?
She could only take the route that involved the art examination, and it was highly likely that she could still not qualify.
Moreover, she had missed the examination for one subject.
Once the comparison was made, she found that the distance between her child and Tan Mo was humongous.
She felt ashamed as a mother.
“At the time, didn’t President Mu said that if Mo Mo was willing to enter Beijing University, he was open to negotiations no matter the conditions?” Xu Mingjing asked.
Xu Mingzhen raised her brow. “Where did you hear about this? I remember that President Mu came to invite Mo Mo at the graduation ceremony. However, you were not able to attend the graduation ceremony of Jixia Academy, so how would you know about it?”
Xu Mingzhen had not spread word about this incident.
If she had boasted, she would know that the story would be spread and changed by others.
It would appear as if Tan Mo was immodest and could not help being proud over a small accomplishment.
It would not be good for things to backfire and illicit antipathy from President Mu and the others from Beijing University.
They should keep a low profile when necessary.
Moreover, she had no one to boast to.
All her friends had attended the graduation ceremony of Jixia Academy, and they already knew of the incident. Thus, there was no need for her to mention anything.
As for Xu Mingjing and Old Madame Xu, even if Xu Mingzhen told them, they would not be happy for Tan Mo and would not think that Tan Mo was outstanding.
Therefore, Xu Mingzhen had not bothered to say anything.
“Brother Keli and Keqing have a good relationship and are frequently in contact,” Tan Mo said in a soft voice. “It was probably brother Keli who told Keqing. Other than brother Keli, Keqing doesn’t know any other people from Jixia Academy.”
Xu Mingzhen had given up on the idea of making a match between Tan Mo and Wei Keli a long time ago.
However, Tan Mo still continued to inform Xu Mingzhen of the bad side of Wei Keli every chance she got.
Anyway, it was not too difficult since she only had to mention Wei Keli’s bad side briefly.
It was a simple task of opening her mouth.
Xu Mingzhen absolutely detested Yuan Keqing now.
She had held back before since Yuan Keqing was her niece, but she was unable to do so now.
Everyone close to them knew that Tan Mo did not have a good relationship with Yuan Keqing now.
Li Xiangrong also knew.
However, Wei Keli still insisted on maintaining a relationship with Yuan Keqing. It was obvious that he did not have Tan Mo in his heart.
He did not care about how Tan Mo felt.
He really was unreliable.
Xu Mingzhen’s dislike for Wei Keli deepened.
From Yuan Keqing’s point of view, it seemed that Tan Mo’s words were spoken out of jealousy.
Yuan Keqing thought that Tan Mo was probably jealous.
Since they’d been young, it was Tan Mo who knew Wei Keli first, grew up together with him, and should be closer to him than she was.
However, now Wei Keli was closer with her instead and more distanced from Tan Mo.
Did Tan Mo feel that she had snatched Wei Keli away?
It would be right for Tan Mo to feel this way.
Even if she was deep in sadness from her poor examination performance, Yuan Keqing could not help being pleased.
Xu Mingjing nodded, “It was Keli who told Keqing. Keqing cares about Mo Mo and had asked about her.
“Sister, Mo Mo.” Xu Mingjing continued, “We were thinking, since President Mu could say this, he must regard Mo Mo highly. Moreover, Mo Mo has garnered so much honor for Beijing University. Could you have Mo Mo speak to President Mu, and ask him to make an exception and accept Keqing into the university?”
“First, it has been more than two years since President Mu asked Mo Mo to set her conditions. The validity of that promise has long expired. Could it be you had hoped Mo Mo could set her conditions for a lifetime?” How could there ever be such a good thing!
