Chapter 403: I Swear It Wasn’t on Purpose
Today was the first time in days he had felt so happy that he could smile freely.
Even if Tan Mo was pissed at him, he could not help but feel happy.
Tan Mo tried jumping again, but she still could not reach her phone.
She was starting to feel annoyed.
‘What is with him?’
‘Why is he making my life so hard?’
He was no longer the same man who used to love her and would never bear to see her upset.
Even when others got her mad, Wei Zhiqian would not stand for it.
He certainly would not have been the one to make her angry.
Wei Zhiqian would have never done anything like this in the past.
Tan Mo felt furious and aggrieved, becoming more irritable by the second.
As a result, when she was coming back down to the ground after a jump, she lost her balance.
Her ankle bent, and her body fell toward the left.
Normally, when Tan Mo was not mad at Wei Zhiqian, as a force of habit, she would have fallen right into his embrace.
Because she trusted Wei Zhiqian, she would let him catch her.
Now, Tan Mo was furious at him.
Her cheeks were puffed, and her heart ached.
She would rather fall to the ground, bruising herself, than letting Wei Zhiqian catch her.
Wei Zhiqian had no choice but to wrap a hand around Tan Mo’s waist and circle her back into his arms.
His heart skipped a beat.
At that moment, he could care less about whether Tan Mo being in his arms seemed appropriate.
The only thing that mattered was making sure Tan Mo was safe.
Thinking about how she would rather fall to the ground than into his embrace…
Wei Zhiqian felt his heart ache again.
Did the little lady not trust him anymore?
As he held his arm around Tan Mo, his right hand, which was holding the phone, finally came down.
Tan Mo saw the perfect opening and snatched it with an outreached hand.
Wei Zhiqian was still faster than her. He quickly hid his right arm behind his back.
As long as it did not require her to jump, he was fine with it.
Tan Mo reached out her arm, circling Wei Zhiqian’s waist. Her hand had almost reached the back of his body.
Wei Zhiqian had broad shoulders and a slim waist. He had been gifted with a nice figure.
Because he was a man, he had to make sure he was stronger than Tan Mo.
Not to mention, Tan Mo was rather short. Short people had shorter arms.
As her arm circled halfway around his waist, her body tightly enveloped Wei Zhiqian in an embrace.
With his right hand behind his back, Wei Zhiqian only had to move it slightly further in the opposite direction so Tan Mo would not be able to reach it.
Lowering his head, Wei Zhiqian moved closer to Tan Mo and asked softly, “What’s the hurry? I never said I wouldn’t give it back.”
Tan Mo suddenly lifted her head.
As Wei Zhiqian lowered his head, Tan Mo lifted hers.
The both of them tilted their heads at the same time.
To both of their surprise, Tan Mo’s lips brushed against Wei Zhiqian’s—just like in the movies.
When that warm, tender, and moist sensation stroked her lips, Tan Mo froze.
Wei Zhiqian felt the same touch on his lips.
Though it was like a dragonfly touching the water, causing ripples on the surface, it fluttered by just as swiftly.
The sweet scent of Tan Mo’s lips entered Wei Zhiqian’s mouth.
Ever so faintly, it was gone in a flash. Wei Zhiqian quickly tried to hold on to it, but there was nothing left.
All he could do was reminisce about the sensation so that he could salvage a fragment of it.
Just then, the breeze blew through Tan Mo’s hair. The fragrance of her hair wafted through the air.
Wei Zhiqian stopped to think. Were the scent on her lips and the fragrance of her hair the same?
Or were they different?
He was curious to find out.
At that moment, Tan Mo could not be bothered by her phone. She was frozen in place.
When she finally realized that her lips had brushed against the corner of Wei Zhiqian’s mouth, she felt dizzy.
It felt as if a loud “Boom!” had gone off in her head like the sound of fireworks.
Her face was flushed red.
Tan Mo’s feet landed back on her heels. She stood in a daze. Instinctively, her gaze fixated on the corners of Wei Zhiqian’s lips. She stared intensely.
Wei Zhiqian felt uneasy under her heated gaze.
As if there was a flame burning in his throat, he gulped. Try as he might, he could not suppress that burning desire.
“I… I swear it wasn’t on purpose!” Tan Mo blurted quickly, her conscience extremely guilty.
She was uncertain if she was just overthinking. She must have taken one too many brain supplements.
She felt like Wei Zhiqian’s gaze was filled with contempt as if blaming her for taking advantage of him.
Wei Zhiqian pinched the corner of his mouth where her lips had gently rubbed against and licked it with the tip of his tongue.
“Boom!”
Another explosion went off in Tan Mo’s head. She had barely just recovered. Her face was even redder than it was before.
Wei Zhiqian lifted his hand and wiped the corner of his lips with his thumb.
As he did these little gestures, he kept his eyes glued to Tan Mo’s. His gaze never left hers for even a split second.
“I didn’t do it on purpose either,” Wei Zhiqian said in a voice barely audible.
Hearing his coarse voice, Tan Mo did not know what was happening.
Like the chords of a violin, that coarse voice of his strummed through her heart.
As if a symphony was playing aloud, her heart beat with it.
The vermillion hue of Tan Mo’s cheeks did not seem to fade. Instead, the color intensified.
Wei Zhiqian passed her phone back to her. “You won’t run away again now, will you?”
Tan Mo said nothing and took her phone. Her feet could barely move…
Let alone run.
Wei Zhiqian put his hands around her. With his hands gripping the top of her shoulders, he led Tan Mo back to the parking spot and helped her into the car.
He then made his way to the driver’s seat.
As he got in the car, Tan Mo was strapping her seat belt on still in a daze.
The interior of the car was dim. He could not see her face clearly.
Wei Zhiqian did not start driving immediately. “Are you still mad at me?”
Tan Mo did not know what came over her. She could not seem to listen to the sound of Wei Zhiqian’s voice.
The moment she heard his voice, her heart started to hammer.
Finally hearing what he had said, Tan Mo took a deep breath before muttering, “Uncle, are you worried that I’d ruin your chances?”
“What?” The normally quick-witted Wei Zhiqian could not respond.
What was Tan Mo talking about?
“You were just going on blind dates, which isn’t a crime. Why did you have to hide it from me?” As Tan Mo voiced what was troubling her, she felt her pounding heart start to calm down as her anger took over.
“Am I such a wayward and arrogant person in your eyes? I never knew this was how you always thought of me. I guess I’m just an annoying, stubborn brat to you,” Tan Mo taunted.
Hearing her disgruntled voice, Wei Zhiqian’s heart shriveled. He wanted to hold her on his lap and wrap his arms around her—to hug her tight and comfort her so that she would never have to feel sad or angry again.
Thinking about what had just happened between them, even though the little lady was questioning him sternly, her body was still stiff from the awkwardness before.
Wei Zhiqian restrained himself from his urges. Sitting there beside her, his heart started to race. “Why would you think that?”
“Why did you keep it a secret from me? Going on a blind date isn’t something shameful. Even if you didn’t go on dates, you would eventually marry someone someday. I’m well aware of that.”
