Chapter 220: Reminiscences
His smile immediately reminded Tan Mo of when she had been taught by Wei Zhiqian as a primary school student.
Wei Zhiqian had had the same smile when he’d taught her how to write her own name for the first time.
Tan Mo could immediately feel her heart begin to race. Unconsciously, she sat up straighter in her chair.
This smile continued to linger on Wei Zhiqian’s face as he said to her, “I still remember that time when you learned how to write your name in my study room when you were still a primary school student, and I used to flick your forehead. I was sure that I hadn’t put any strength into the flick, but you would always cry out in pain.”
‘But I thought you had self-healing powers?’
That was the question that was going through Wei Zhiqian’s mind, but he didn’t say it out loud.
However, Tan Mo knew what he was trying to say, and her jaw dropped.
She could not believe that the man in front of her still remembered that despite all the years that had passed since then.
If she factored in her past life, Tan Mo had lived for more than 1,000 years. During all this time, this was her first time making such a huge mistake.
She dropped her head and slouched in her chair. She resembled a flower whose petals were drooping.
Wei Zhiqian couldn’t help but sigh when he noticed her reaction. In spite of her being the one who had lied to him for years, she was now pretending to be the wronged one.
This man had always hated being lied to, but when he saw the expression on her face, he couldn’t bring himself to be angry with her.
He reached his arm out and was about to flick Tan Mo’s forehead, but he had become used to not hurting this girl.
Even though he knew that she wouldn’t be hurt even if he were to put his strength into the flick, his habit of protecting her compelled him not to do it.
It was then that he realized how scary habits could be.
Wei Zhiqian pulled his arm back and coughed. “Well, I’ll overlook it this time, but don’t you dare lie to me again.”
Tan Mo quickly nodded and promised him.
She didn’t know why, but at that moment, she hugged him tightly, just as she had done when she was still a young kid.
Tan Mo rubbed her soft face against Wei Zhiqian’s chest and fawned on him like she always had. “There is no way I would lie to Uncle when Uncle is so nice to me. The only time I did was when you flicked my forehead, I promise… It…it was because I wanted Uncle to love me even more.”
Usually, Wei Zhiqian would be so disgusted if people talked to him in such a spoiled manner, but when Tan Mo did it, he was okay with it and even liked hearing it. Even he couldn’t tell what was happening to him.
He lowered his head to look at Tan Mo and knew that they were as close as they always had been. Her actions were still the same as they had been after all these years.
The only difference was that the little girl was no longer little.
Wei Zhiqian didn’t push Tan Mo away since he also missed the feeling of being hugged by her.
After a while, Wei Zhiqian finally gently tapped her on the head and said, “Come on, you are too old to act like a spoiled kid anymore.”
Tan Mo pouted, wondering if Wei Zhiqian actually meant what he said.
If he’d really hated it, he would’ve pushed her away the moment she did that.
But the truth was that she was starting to get tired after hugging Wei Zhiqian for such a long period. Her back was starting to ache, and her position was awkward.
However, Tan Mo wasn’t going to give up so easily. She gently raised her head and stared at Wei Zhiqian with a cute expression. “You’ve changed. You always liked me hugging you like this. You pervert!”
Wei Zhiqian was rendered speechless. ‘What the h*ll? Why are you calling me a pervert?’
“Aren’t you tired?” he asked, after noticing how uncomfortable her position was.
“No!” Tan Mo replied firmly. “As long as I can hug Uncle, I’m not letting go.”
Wei Zhiqian couldn’t help but laugh when he heard that. Even if Tan Mo didn’t mind the pain, there was no way he would let her suffer.
He then proceeded to pick up Tan Mo and set her down on his lap.
Even if he was her uncle, Tan Mo was still a 16-year-old teenager, and it was inappropriate for them to be hugging so much.
Usually, Wei Zhiqian would never do something like this, but Tan Mo had been just too clingy, and he’d decided to let it pass for one day.
In his heart, Tan Mo would always be the tiny little girl who she’d been when he’d first seen her.
Since the two of them were the only people present, and the night sky was calm and pretty, he chose to ignore the awkwardness.
…
Director Liu arrived at the studio with the script for the first episode. The moment he spotted Tan Jinqi, who was immersed in his own work, he quickly walked to him.
“Director Liu,” Tan Jinqi greeted him when he heard footsteps approaching him and stopped what he was doing.
“You sure have a good little sister.” Director Liu smiled as he patted Tan Jinqi’s shoulder. He couldn’t help but feel jealous.
Tan Jinqi was stunned for a second before smiling. “What did she ask from you?”
The oldest brother had no question about his little sister’s ability. He knew she would write an amazing script the moment she accepted the request.
That was why he did not even ask Director Liu how the script was.
And judging from the director’s expression, Tan Jinqi could tell that he was completely satisfied with the script that Tan Mo had written.
Director Liu was happy with the result. Tan Mo’s ability to act as a history consultant for the drama while also having the ability to write the script had saved the director a whole lot of work.
There was no way Director Liu was going to let such a huge chance slide.
Since Tan Mo was the one being asked to help out, she could ask for something in return.
She had always been a person who was hesitant to ask for things for herself. Most of the things she requested were for someone else, and usually it was something for her brothers.
Her professors had had to accept Tan Mo’s requests so that she would help their own research teams out.
Writing a script for a drama wasn’t something Tan Mo was fond of doing, and she would be happy not to have to do it.
That was why Director Liu had to give her some benefits to make sure she would help him.
As for what Tan Mo had requested, Tan Jinqi had a feeling he knew what it was.
It was most likely something that would benefit him.
As long as it had anything to do with her three older brothers, Tan Mo would always grab the chance to help them out.
“I guess Tan Mo always does something like this?” Director Liu asked.
“Yes.” Tan Jinqi smiled, not intending to hide the fact. “Professor Zhao had to use his connections and ask Director Hou to take me in as his apprentice so that Mo Mo would attend his class. When Mo Mo won the Ancient Text Competition for Beijing University, the president of the university told her that he would grant any of her requests as long as they were within his power. That was how my two younger brothers started to apprentice under Liu Shengtai and He Haoyan. I believe that if a famous director like you asked for her help, she would definitely use that to benefit me instead of herself.”
Tan Jinqi then let out a deep sigh.
Tears began to fill his eyes as his voice slowly turned hoarse.
He couldn’t help but wonder what good deed he and his brothers had done in their past lives for them to have such a loving little sister who would do anything for them.
