Chapter 232: Director Liu Moved to Tears
When Director Liu heard Tan Jinqi’s words, he was stunned.
The Tan family was really going to make an investment…?
Film investments demanded quite a hefty sum. Tan Jinqi must be aware of this.
“Director Liu is standing right next to me. We’re currently discussing how to resolve this situation. Do you want to speak to him now?” Tan Jinqi asked.
“Let me speak to him now. It’ll help alleviate his worries. At the same time, he’ll probably treat my son and daughter better after this.” Tan Wenci’s thought processes went exactly like that. He earned money in order to support his sons and daughter.
Investing in the show was equivalent to spending for one of his sons and his daughter.
He was happy to fork out money for his children.
“All right,” Tan Jinqi replied with a smile. He passed the phone to Director Liu. “Director Liu, this is my father on the phone. We had the same line of thought. Although I didn’t have time to tell my father about what happened, he already had the intention to invest in our production. You guys should talk some more.”
Director Liu was slightly skeptical. He didn’t dare to believe what he was hearing. He took the phone from Tan Jinqi and answered politely, “Nice to talk to you, Mr. Tan. I am Liu Runlin.”
“Nice to meet you also, Director Lin. My little Mo Mo and Jinqi are both working under you. Thank you for taking care of them,” Tan Wenci replied politely.
“I am trying,” Director Liu replied courteously. “Jinqi and Tan Mo are extremely outstanding people. They’ve been a great help to me.”
“Director Liu, I won’t beat around the bush. I’ve heard about the problems the team is currently facing.” Tan Wenci went straight to the point.
Director Liu chuckled bitterly. He spoke very bluntly, “Jinqi must definitely have told you everything. I’ll tell you the truth. At this critical juncture, it’s very challenging for us to gather investments. What’s more, it’s not simply collecting investments. We need to write up reports and inform the investors how much they can earn from the deal. We need to draw up a palpable proposal for each investor. Then the other parties hold their own negotiation talks.
“Even without all these protocols, our reputation has taken a hit right as filming started. It’s very difficult to ascertain when the show will be broadcast and when the negative influence of this issue will die off. Hence, most investors would probably be wary about it. They might choose not to invest because they deem this a risky venture.”
“Since that’s the case, I shall invest.” Tan Wenci was very straightforward. “If Journey Films really wants to withdraw their investment, then let them do so. I will make up for it.”
“This…,” Director Liu reminded him, “…Mr. Tan, you probably haven’t dabbled with film investments before. It’s risky business. If the reputation of our film is still badly affected during the airing of our show, then the reception and viewership of the broadcast won’t be good.”
“I have confidence in Mo Mo.” Tan Wenci wasn’t worried in the slightest. “Mo Mo is the one who wrote the script. My heart aches when I think of other people profiting from her work. If anything, our family should be the one profiting instead.”
Director Liu: “…”
“Director Liu, I’m not trying to upsell my daughter. Whenever my Mo Mo sets her heart to do something, she always succeeds.” Tan Wenci added, “In middle school, she decided to skip grades, and, in the end, she really did skip grades. During her college exams, she aimed for Beijing University. In the end, she didn’t even need to fork out any school fees. The president of Beijing University, Mr. Mu, wrote out a proposal and gave her a personal invitation to join his university. Then, she announced that she wanted to win first place at the Ancient Text Competition. In the end, she achieved first place.
“If my Mo Mo chooses to do something, she will definitely do her very best,” Tan Wenci said. “Hence, this show is definitely going to do well when it comes out. What’s more, aren’t you a great director as well? Have you lost confidence in your own skills? Your dramas have never scored below 7.5 on the web, with the highest being rated 8.6 points. Even if you don’t believe in Mo Mo, you should have confidence in your own skills. The script is good, and coupled with your exceptional directing skills, how could the finished product be bad?
“When the time comes, even if the audience remembers this incident, won’t people still watch the show out of curiosity? As long as there are people watching, and as long as they help spread a good word about this show, won’t the show do well?”
Director Liu took a deep breath. Finally, he gave him one more reminder. “Don’t mind me, but I think I need to tell you about the investment value of Journey Film…”
Tan Wenci wasn’t bothered at all. He smiled and said, “My apologies, I forgot to introduce myself. Have you heard of TanYue Homeware?”
“Of course.” Director Liu nodded his head and continued, “The TanYue Group is one of the Hua Empire’s biggest homeware retailers. They sell all sorts of furniture and household products.”
These household products included a variety of qualities and styles at all different prices.
Smaller items included aromatherapy candles, essential oils, scented sticks, and hand-crafted ornaments.
An assortment of fabric products such as curtains, bedspreads, quilts, and sleepwear were also sold in their stores.
TanYue sold almost everything you could possibly need in a home.
There were rumors that TanYue had plans to expand into the kitchen and bathroom sectors.
As he spoke, Director Liu suddenly froze.
TanYue, Tan…
“Are you…” Director Liu could barely suppress his shock.
“It’s our Tan family’s business,” Tan Wenci said. He was a bit embarrassed since it felt like he was praising himself.
Director Liu glanced at Tan Jinqi abruptly.
Goodness!
You and Tan Mo are clearly second-generation aristocrats. Yet, both of you have ventured into the working world. One became a director, while another became a screenwriter. Both had endured such hardships.
You guys are such down-to-earth people.
Never in his wildest dreams could he have imagined that two respectable members of high society were working on his team.
“Mr. Tan, I have been too impolite,” Director Liu hurriedly said. “You…you have really offered us such timely assistance. Your help in this hour of need will be indispensable. If you could invest in us, I would be extremely grateful.
“This time, Journey Films seems to have a very strong stance on this matter. If we hold our ground, I am 80 to 90 percent sure that they will withdraw their funds. If they do withdraw their investment, then we can only depend on you.” Director Liu was currently…so moved that tears had welled up in his eyes.
His heart was thumping wildly. He was so happy that wings were about to sprout from his body.
He had been very lucky this year!
Director Liu even felt like displaying his show of affection in front of Tan Jinqi.
When there were issues with the script, he met Tan Mo.
When there was a problem with their adviser, they had met Tan Mo as well.
Now that there were financial problems, he had Tan Wenci!
The Tan family had become his benefactors.
“No problem.” Tan Wenci chuckled. “I’ve told Mo Mo that everything she became involved with would succeed. Why didn’t she inform me that there was such an opportunity to gain some profit? Once Journey Films withdraws from the contract, let me know immediately. TanYue will make up for it right away.”
“Thank you, thank you. Thank you so much!” Director Liu felt like running up to Tan Wenci and prostrating himself before him.
The huge burden in his heart had finally been lifted.
After hanging up the call, he sighed and looked at Tan Jinqi gratefully. “You and your sister have been so low key.”
The heir of a rich family had actually let himself be ordered around in this manner. Yet, he didn’t lose his temper at all.
He had worked hard without any complaints.
Who would have imagined that Tan Jinqi was the heir of the prestigious Tan family?
