“W-Wait a minute!” Yu Xiaonan’s voice trembled.
Everyone stopped. Xin Kaiqi asked, “What’s the matter?”
“Can we walk in front of you?” Yu Xiaonan asked. “The corridor is too dark . Who knew what might pop out? Although Wei Qian and Wei Mo are in front, at least she has Wei Qian to protect her. Shi Zhixia and Liu Yuehao are following closely behind them, whereas you and Fang Shuyang are just in front of us. That makes us the last ones behind.”
If a scary actor suddenly sprung out, the first ones to be frightened would be her and Zhou Jieyu.
“Fang Shuyang, you’re such a strong, capable guy. You wouldn’t mind walking behind us, right?” Yu Xiaonan hinted.
When all of them were rummaging through the living hall earlier, they found four flashlights.
As they happened to be divided into pairs, each group had a flashlight.
With everyone’s flashlight lit, it was still barely bright enough.
To avoid flashing lights into people’s eyes, their flashlights were constantly faced toward the ground.
The emitted light was sufficient to light up their faces, albeit not too clearly.
Hearing Yu Xiaonan’s words somehow made Fang Shuyang feel uneasy, though he could not quite put his finger on what it was.
Tan Mo murmured, “Always going on about gender equality, but suddenly, equality is out the window.”
“Feisty.” Wei Zhiqian brushed a finger across the tip of Tan Mo’s nose.
Fang Shuyang better have not heard her talking or he might just start latching himself onto Tan Mo.
However, who was it that made Fang Shuyang feel so strong and capable only a moment ago?
Now that he had been played by Yu Xiaonan, all he could do was quietly fall in line with Xin Kaiqi.
Between Yu Xiaonan and Wei Zhiqian, three people still kept them apart—Tan Mo, Shi Zhixia, and Liu Yuehao.
Just as Yu Xiaonan was about to persuade Shi Zhixia and try to get ahead of her too, Fang Shuyang said impatiently, “Well, let’s hurry up and get past this stage. We’ve been here too long.”
Yu Xiaonan had to wait her chance for now.
They had barely walked a couple of steps forward when a flash of lightning suddenly struck, followed by the sound of thunder.
Neither side of the walls had windows, but there were windows on both ends of the corridor.
The lightning outside flashed brightly through the windows.
As poorly connected lightbulbs tend to flicker, the lights above flickered on and on.
Coupled with the deafening clap of thunder that rumbled abruptly over their heads…
It made their skin crawl.
“It’s daytime outside, and we’re in a high-rise building, so the lightning we saw through the windows are actually just LED panels. It’s all computerized,” Fang Shuyang explained.
“D-Did you guys hear anything?” Shi Zhixia was shaken, her voice quavering. “I-It sounds like footsteps of someone in heels.”
“How could you hear anything over all that rumbling thunder?” Liu Yue consoled her. “You’re just too shaken up. It’s probably all in your head.”
This time, the interval between the rumbling of thunders took longer than before.

“Listen!” Shi Zhixia cried out.
Everyone else heard it too.
“Uncle!” Tan Mo—the little snow fairy—was stunned.
Even though she knew none of it was real, she was still scared.
Tan Mo and Qin Muye would always hold each other while watching horror movies at home because she was so afraid. What’s more, she was now in an immersive experience.
“Boom!”
Suddenly, a thunderous roar reverberated as lightning flashed through the windows and a piercing light shone in.
Yu Xiaonan turned her head around, about to say something to Fang Shuyang, when she saw a little girl dressed in white standing at the end of the corridor.
The little girl in the white dress was carrying a doll in her arms.
Given the distance, Yu Xiaonan could not see the doll clearly.
The little girl had shoulder-length hair. Her white dress reached just below her knees.
The length of her dress clearly revealed a pair of scarlet red heels on her feet. The heels were much too big for her tiny feet. They were obviously ill-fitted.
“Aaaaahhh!” Yu Xiaonan let out a scream so piercing that her voice cracked.
“What is it?” Just then, the lightning had passed. It was dark again.
Yu Xiaonan trembled, “T-T-There is a little girl over there.”
Shi Zhixia buried her face into Liu Yuehao’s chest.
Wei Zhiqian shone his flashlight in the direction she pointed, but there was nothing there.
“I don’t see anything,” Fang Shuyang said.
“Were you looking for me?” Zhou Jieyu suddenly felt a grip on her ankle.
She gazed down instinctively.
She saw the little girl dressed in white that Yu Xiaonan had described. The girl was crawling on the ground with an outreached hand holding onto her ankle.
In fact, she was not a little girl at all.
The owner would never risk hiring an underage child.
She was just an actress who had short legs. She looked about 4.9 inches tall.
With the way she was dressed, coupled with her height, it was easy to mistake her for a child from a distance.
After the actor finished speaking, she lifted her head and looked up at everyone.
Her hair covered half her face.
The exposed half of her face was as pale as a ghost.
Only then could they see the doll in her hands. Its brown wig had mostly fallen off, with barely a few strands sparsely stuck to the doll’s head.
There were scars on its greyish skin, and the eyeballs were missing from their eye sockets.
The sight of the actress, combined with the state of her creepy doll, was chilling enough to cause anyone a heart attack.
Zhou Jieyu, who was usually unfazed by horror films, let out a soul-shattering scream, kicking her leg with all her might.
“Uncle!” Tan Mo was absolutely terrified. She plunged herself into Wei Zhiqian’s embrace.
Wei Zhiqian wrapped his arms around her like how he held in the elevator before.
With one hand around Tan Mo and the other patting the back of her head, he consoled her. “Close your eyes. If you’re scared, you can lean on my shoulder. You’re okay. I won’t let them get to you.”
Tan Mo nodded. This time, she gave in. She closed her eyes and burrowed her face against Wei Zhiqian’s neck.
Smelling the scent of pine and cypress on his body, the constant rumbling of thunder in her ears became less terrifying.
Yu Xiaonan quickly rushed toward Wei Zhiqian.
The sight of Wei Zhiqian holding his arms around Tan Mo disrupted her plan.
It did not matter, she could still hug Wei Zhiqian regardless.
She grappled for his arm. Before her hands could even touch Wei Zhiqian, he reacted.
Even in the dark, he could sense Yu Xiaonan approaching him.
In one quick turn, he let Yu Xiaonan lunge herself into thin air.
With everyone surrounding them, they all saw what she was doing.
“Wei Qian!” Yu Xiaonan called out as she threw both her arms out to catch Wei Zhiqian’s, but all she caught was air.
“Get away from me!” Wei Zhiqian growled with unconcealed disgust.
Yu Xiaonan was stunned for a moment and saw the actress coming toward her.
She screamed her lungs out. Wei Zhiqian would not possibly push her away in her state of panic, would he?
Yu Xiaonan continued to move forward but was met with ceaseless defeat with each step she took.
Wei Zhiqian was really pushing her away.
Unexpectedly, Tan Mo raised her head. She peeped through her lashes, too afraid to fully open her eyes.
For the sake of her beloved uncle, she mustered the courage to open her eyes.
That took a lot of effort out of her.
Squinting her eyes, she quickly located Yu Xiaonan.. She reached out her arm and shoved Yu Xiaonan away.
