Chapter 389 - There was a lot to be uncovered here. (2)
There was no light in the room and one could barely see one’s hand. Tong Jiaming’s heavy breathing, however, was very noticeable in the dark room.
Tong Xuelu turned the light on and walked over to the bed. “What’s the matter, Jiaming?”
Tong Jiaming was lying there facing the wall. He seemed to have just woken up after she had called out to him multiple times. “Big Sister, I…… *cough cough*…… am fine.”
His voice was hoarse and seemed to have difficulty talking.
What did he mean by he was okay?
Tong Xuelu, “Turn around. Let me see if you are running a fever.”
Tong Jiaming paused for a little before he turned around slowly. “I am fine. I just have a little headache and I feel tired.”
When he turned around and Tong Xuelu got a good look at him, she was startled.
She saw patches of redness on his face. They look like rashes or an allergic reaction.
Tong Xuelu was stunned. “When did this start?”
Tong Jiaming thought about it some and said, “I started with a headache yesterday. I thought I just caught a cold.”
Looking at his face, she had a bad feeling.
At this very moment, Tong Mianmian and Tong Jiaxin both came over.
Tong Xuelu stopped them immediately. “Do not come inside! Jiaxin, take Tong Mianmian to my room and do not leave until I said so!”
Both Tong Jiaxin and Tong Mianmian were stunned.
This was the first time that Tong Mianmian had seen her Big Sister talking to her so sternly. That brought tears to her eyes. “Big Sister, Mianmian is a good girl. Don’t scold Mianmian.”
That was when Tong Xuelu noticed that she had been too overly stern. “Big Sister didn’t scold you. Your Second Brother is ill and I don’t want you to catch it from him. Jiaxin, hurry up and take Mianmian away. And do not touch anything that your Second Brother had touched, especially his water bottle and cup!”
Tong Jiaxin was a little pale. It took him a while to come to. “Yes, I will bring Mianmian over now. Is Second Brother going to make it?”
Tong Xuelu shook her head. “He will be fine. Hurry up and go. I’ll take your Second Brother to the hospital right now.”
She suspected that Tong Jiaming was having chicken pox. It wasn’t a serious illness but it was highly contagious. If all of the siblings caught them at the same time, she would be exhausted from taking care of them.
Tong Jiaxin brought the teary-eyed Tong Mianmian to the room on the eastern end.
As soon as Tong Jiaxin and Tong Mianmian had taken off, Tong Xuelu turned and said to Tong Jiaming, “Wait here for me. Let me go give Grandma Shen a heads up.”
Tong Jiaming’s head hurt a lot and his stomach was a little upset as well. He let out a feeble grunt.
Tong Xuelu closed the door and quickly ran over to the Wei’s.
Shen Wanrong and Wei Guozhi asked Tong Xuelu nervously when they saw the pale Tong Xuelu standing outside their house after the urgent knocking. “What’s the matter, Xuelu? Did something happen?”
Tong Xuelu, “Grandma Shen, Grandpa Wei, Jiaming is breaking out. I’m afraid it’s chicken pox.”
Shen Wanrong and Wei Guozhi were both taken aback a little.
Tong Xuelu, “Jiaming is also running a fever and I am going to bring him to the hospital. I want to ask Grandma Shen to help me look after Jiaxin and Mianmian.”
Shen Wanrong. “That’s not a problem at all. I’ll go and bring the two over right now. Zhuzhu grandpa, why don’t you accompany Xuelu to the hospital?”
Wei Guozhi had yet to say anything and Tong Xuelu had declined her. “Grandma Shen, Jiaxin and Mianmian had been in contact with Jiaming. I have no idea if they have been infected. Its best not to have them over.
“Have you had chicken pox before, Grandma Shen? If not, then you shouldn’t be over either.”
As she said that, Tong Xuelu felt a sense of helplessness for the first time.
She had asked the Wei family for help many times ever since she had moved there but she had no other options.
The siblings were so young and she had nobody who could lend her a hand whenever something happened.
Shen Wanrong, “Don’t worry. I’ve had it when I was a child. Have you had it yourself?”
Tong Xuelu nodded, “Yes.”
Truth was, she could still get it a second time even if she had it before in the past, just that the odds were lower.
But she couldn’t not take care of Tong Jiaming right now.
