Tong Xuelu remained squatted until everything had died down around her before she walked out from the corner.
From what she had found out before, Ma Mei was already married and had a son and a daughter.
The man had a child in his arms, so obviously he was also married. Meaning that both of them were cheating on their spouses!
Having an affair was a serious matter in this day and age. Once they were discovered, their lives would be ruined. Just a few years back, they would be paraded down the streets and be denounced.
If she wanted to expose Ma Mei, there were a few things that she would need to do.
Find out where Ma Mei’s husband worked and get the numbers to his unit.
Find out more about the area around the man’s place. That would help with her future planning.
Find out Ma Mei’s relationship with the man. That being said, this one was not mandatory.
Tong Xuelu pondered over her plan as she walked toward home. However, after she had walked into the alleyway near her house, she suddenly saw a big body blocking her way.
She was able to make out the person’s face with the streetlight –– It was Pu Jianyi.
And just what was he doing here?
Tong Xuelu paused a little before she walked over.
Pu Jianyi looked up when he heard footsteps and let out a sigh of relief when she saw Tong Xuelu. “You are finally back, Comrade Tong!”
Tong Xuelu was even more curious when she heard that. “Why are you looking for me, Comrade Pu?”
Pu Jianyi was just about to answer her question, but he was startled when Tong Xuelu got close to him. “What happened to your face, Comrade Tong? How did you get so many mosquito bites?”
Tong Xuelu, “……”
Must he mention that?
Pu Jianyi’s mouth opened wide as he laughed. “One, two, three, four, five. Oh boy. You have five bug bites on your face! And the way your eye is swollen looks so comical. Hahaha……”
“……”
Listening to Pu Jianyi laughing at her, Tong Xuelu’s eyes almost rolled all the way up.
It was obvious that Pu Jianyi had something to tell her, and they couldn’t just stand around the side of the street. As such, Tong Xuelu let him into her place.
Once they were inside the house, Tong Jiaming and the siblings were waiting for her to have dinner. They were all dazed when they saw Pu Jianyi following behind her.
Tong Xuelu went on to explain, “This is a friend of mine, and there’s something we need to talk about. Just start eating, and don’t wait for me.”
As Tong Jiaming and the others were inside the living room, Tong Xuelu had no choice but to bring Pu Jianyi into the study.
Pu Jianyi looked around the study as he walked inside.
The study was not big, but it seemed empty as there wasn’t a lot inside of it. There was an old set of table and chairs inside and a chipped vase on top of the table with a few wildflowers inside of it.
The very simple study was greatly adorned by those few wildflowers.
Tong Xuelu brought over two glasses of water from the kitchen. “What is it that you want to talk to me about, Comrade Pu?”
Pu Jianyi took the water from her and drank a few big gulps before he started talking. “I heard about what happened to your family. What are your plans now?”
Bad news always spreads faster than good ones.
Not to mention that Pu Jianyi also lived in this area. Tong Xuelu was not surprised at all that he had learned about that.
“Cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Even though Pu Jianyi was a friend of Wen Rugui’s, Tong Xuelu still didn’t trust him 100%.
Pu Jianyi could tell right away that she was just blowing him off. “I’ve been to the government-operated restaurant that you work at today. They said you have taken a few days off. Comrade Tong, what are you planning?”
He wasn’t entirely barging into businesses that didn’t concern him. Wen Rugui had called him specifically to have him keep an eye out on the Tong family.
He grew up with Wen Rugui, and this was the very first time that he saw Wen Rugui caring so much about a female comrade. Prior to Tong Xuelu, he had thought that Wen Rugui would remain single for life.
He was like those plants that bloom once in a millennium.
Naturally, Pu Jianyi would not reject Wen Rugui’s request. Not to mention that he would still be borrowing money from Wen Rugui in the future.
