Normally, Huo Mian would only occasionally conduct some difficult operations from the OB/GYN and Orthopedics Departments. She rarely did surgeries.
That was also the reason why she rarely saw patients from the ER, where some tragic incidents like car accidents or construction accidents happened. It was the first time she saw such a graphic situation.
The girl was lying there half dead. Her face was pale but you could see her delicate facial features. You could tell she was young.
However, she was badly wounded by some external force.
From how her wounds showed, she could tell someone cut her chest open with a knife, causing massive blood loss.
“Stop the bleeding first. Then we’ll start the surgery.” Huo Mian took a deep breath in to calm herself.
Then, along with two other neurosurgeons and three nurses, she conducted this extremely difficult surgery.
The surgery lasted for over three hours. When Huo Mian came out of the surgery room, it was already 12:30 AM.
The surgery required immense concentration so now that Huo Mian relaxed, she felt tired and dizzy.
Then, someone gave her a cup of water. Just when Huo Mian was about to take it, she looked at the man. She realized it wasn’t from a nurse but was a foreign man – a complete stranger.
The man didn’t look young and had a weird glare in his eyes. The way he looked at her was strange because his eyes seemed to be faking a smile at her.
Huo Mian immediately became more alert. She held onto the cup and said, “Who are you?”
“I’m that girl’s friend…” he said in English.
Huo Mian of course understood.
She didn’t believe what he said so she asked, “You’re that patient’s friend?”
“Yeah. I requested you to come back to the hospital to conduct that surgery. I heard the surgery went very smoothly. You are good after all.”
“Although the surgery was successful, she’s still in critical condition. We will need to continue monitoring her health…” Huo Mian looked at the man and responded in fluent English.
“I didn’t expect your English to be this good. I heard you never studied abroad,” the man said with a smile.
You seem to know a lot about me…” Huo Mian was now even more alert because this stranger, who was a foreigner, seemed to know a lot about her. He also self-proclaimed to be the friend of her patient.
“Everyone in this hospital praises you. It’s hard to not know. I also heard that you’re self-taught.”
Thank you for the compliments. Your friend is in the ICU so you might not be able to visit her now. If you want to see her, you can come tomorrow morning. I’m going to go home…” Huo Mian didn’t want to continue chatting with this man. She was about to go back to her office and get Qin Chu so they could go home.
“Are you interested in grabbing a late-night snack with me?” the man asked Huo Mian with a devious smirk on his face. “I’m not interested in dining with a stranger,” Huo Mian rejected.
“If you don’t say yes, I’d be unhappy…” the man said.
“So? What do you want from me?” Huo Mian’s brows slightly furrowed. She looked up into the man’s eyes, but she could not see any signs of fright from him.
“Everyone around me knows that I’m very terrifying if I’m unhappy. I don’t want you to see the unhappy side of me.
That would be a disaster,” the man half-threatened.
Huo Mian suddenly laughed and said, “I don’t know if you heard this before, but there is a saying in my country. Don’t be so headstrong because not everyone’s your mommy.”
Although it sounded a bit strange in English, she was able to convey her message.
Huo Mian had scolded this man before her.
Ian glared at this slim girl before him in disbelief, with a hint of interest. She had a delicate Eastern-looking face.
