Chapter 428: A Counter-Offer
Captain Wang had a proud glint in his eyes as he continued, “You like tennis, too, right? If so, then you must have heard of our tennis club. We aren’t like those small, third-rate associations. The benefits offered at our club are unlike anywhere else. They treat us very well.
“If you join us, I can guarantee that you would earn an impressive amount in no time. This might even be your path to great honor and supremacy in the world of sports.
“Well, what do you say?”
Captain Wang finished his pitch with a confident grin. He knew that only a fool would turn down such a ludicrous opportunity.
Even lay people who weren’t particularly keen on tennis were impressed when they heard about the terms provided by his tennis club, how much more a poor girl from the countryside like Yao Tang?!!
If she had any sense in her, she wouldn’t turn this offer down.
Captain Wang was preening when Yao Tangfinally spoke. “I’m not joining your club.”
“Excellent! Then come with me and we can start the process of…” Captain Wan drifted off as his brain slowly processed Yao Tang’s words.
Once they finally clicked, he gaped at her.
‘What did she just say? She’s not joining?’
Shock was written all over his face. He couldn’t believe that she would refuse him right away, and so resolutely, too!
“What did you just say?” Captain Wang said out loud, his voice croaking with disbelief.
Wasn’t Yao Tangsupposed to be a bumpkin with nothing to her name? Where did she get the nerve to reject his invitation?
He was naturally displeased by this development.
He had insisted on personally speaking to her about this matter, and she had made him lose face, just like that.
Captain Wang’s brow furrowed. Just as he was about to scold Yao Tang, a mocking voice came from the side.
“Oh my, you and your little club are really shameless, huh? In what way is it an honor to have a single player carry your organization’s name on her back? You guys are just desperate because the rest of your players suck.”
Just as before, another man appeared out of nowhere, though he was dressed fashionably compared to Captain Wang’s plain suit.
The moment Captain Wang laid eyes on the second man, the color drained from his face. “Sun Hao! What are you doing here?”
Sun Hao sauntered over and drawled, “If you’re here, then I’m free to be here as well, am I not?”
Captain Wang’s expression instantly shifted to one of open animosity.
But Sun Hao wasn’t paying attention to him anymore. Instead, he produced a business card from his pocket and waved it at Yao Tang.
“Hello, Miss Yao. My name is Sun Hao. I’m the manager of the nearby club. You may call me Manager Sun if you like. I’m here to invite you to join our club.
“I have a more generous offer, though. In addition to the basic benefits usually provided by the tennis club, you will also be given an incentive bonus amounting to 150,000 yuan or more. Aside from that, you will also be given the chance to travel outside the city at least once a month.”
Wang Peng glared atSun Hao. “How dare you go against our tennis club!”
These additional benefits were as good as a slap to his face and that of his team members.
Sun Hao smirked. “Ah, right. Your organization has always been big on fairness, right? Well, isn’t this a fair competition we’re having right now? We laid out our offers, and Miss Yao is free to choose which one she finds more suitable.
“Besides, no matter which club she chooses, she would still be contributing a lot to the field of tennis. Why are you making it sound like I’m deliberately plotting against you? This isn’t a very sportsmanlike behavior, is it?”
Then, as if to rub salt into the wound, Sun HaogaveWang Penga courteous nod.
Of course, this only served to anger the other man further. But then, he realized something—how did Sun Haoknow that they would be here today?
Wasn’t Xu XuanandYao Tangthe only ones to know about this meeting?
Then it must have been Xu Xuan, that cunning girl!
Wang Peng gnashed his teeth together, his face twisting in rage.Xu Xuanmust have snitched on him in exchange for some money. For all he knew, the brat might have informed every interested party and collected a sizable fee!
Yao Tang must be in on this, too. She had been silent this entire time; she was probably doing it on purpose to see how high their offers would go before she chose the one with the most benefits.
