Chapter 53 Arrogant Through and Through

Without waiting for further encouragement, Cheng Wei strode into the direction of the Old Madam’s room. She paused just as she was about to pass by Yao Tang and shot her a look of contempt. “An hour to wake up,
you said? And two days to finally recover? You were clearly deluding yourself.”
Satisfied with her taunts, she lifted her chin and scoffed.
“Hurry up and bring her away already!” Cheng Ruo commanded. “Why was this nobody even allowed to enter the Cheng residence?”!!
When Cheng Zhou heard this, he almost burst out laughing. Not out of humor, though, but of sheer frustration.
‘These morons don’t know what they’re talking about!”
However, he took a deep breath and swallowed his anger, then looked at Yao Tang.
She still appeared calm as ever.
Cheng Zhou sighed inwardly.
This time, the police officers walked around him and reached for her as they readied a pair of handcuffs.
Meanwhile, Yao Tang was silently tapping her forefinger against her leg.
One. Two.
Three.
The Old Madam’s door suddenly burst open again, and Cheng Yan walked out, his eyes wild, his breathing labored.
Cheng Wei’s eyes instantly darted into the room. She saw the military doctor sitting on the edge of the bed, speaking animatedly.
And then she saw the Old Madam wince.
Their precious patient had obviously regained consciousness.
Cheng Wei’s eyes were wide with shock.
‘How is this possible?!”
She scrambled into the room, desperate to see for herself that her grandmother had truly awoken.
The woman had a bloody stroke, for goodness’ sake. She was well on her way into severe comatose. How could she have woken up after being pricked with a bunch of needles?
It was simply beyond reason!
As for Cheng Yan, it took only one look at the police officers for him to understand what he had walked out on. His pitch-black eyes immediately turned hostile.
To the officers’ credit, they recognized the threat for what it was. They averted their gaze and shuffled their feet.
That was, everyone except Yao Tang, who was leaning casually against the wall with her hands still in her pockets.
“Grandma is awake,” Cheng Yan announced in a chilly tone.
All at once, everyone’s expression changed from one of scorn to that of disbelief. “What?! She woke up?!”
This nobody had actually saved the Old Madam? From an illness that confounded even Cheng Wei?
How could this happen?
Yao Tang’s face remained blank.
She made no other movements besides shifting her weight from one leg to another.
The night breeze blew through her beautiful, black tresses, lending an additional layer to her already mysterious person.
She took out a pen and a small piece of paper, then scribbled something on it.
The others watched her quietly, seemingly entranced by the tiniest of her movements.
When she was done, Yao Tang handed the note to Cheng Yan. “This is the prescription. The old lady needs to take it for a week for her to fully recuperate.”
Cheng Yan glanced at the ugly words she had written. His lips tightened, but he said nothing.
Yao Tang, on the other hand, had already deposited her pen back into her backpack. “I still have things to do, so I’ll be taking my leave now.”
She didn’t wait for anyone to acknowledge her words and just strode down the hall with her head held high.
She really was arrogant, through and through.
Cheng Zhou watched her go, struggling with the words that wanted to come out of his mouth.
In the end, he could only call out her name. “Miss Yao.”
She stopped and turned to look at him with a raised eyebrow.
Cheng Zhou smiled at her and asked, “When will the next acupuncture session be?”
Yao Tang returned his smile, albeit with her own wicked brand.
“Make sure to take the medicine diligently,” she said slowly, like one did when speaking with a child. “The Old Madam is sure to recover in a week at most.”
She put on her black cap. “Now, then. I have other matters to attend to.”
When she turned her back on them this time, she didn’t turn around again until she was out of sight.
All eyes were fixed on her until the end.
“Sixth Uncle,” Cheng Zhou said quietly, still staring in the direction Yao Tang had left. “Where did you find this person.”
Cheng Yan’s head whipped to him, his eyes narrowed. Something tightened inside his chest as he bit out, “I just heard that she had excellent acupuncture methods. Since the doctors can’t do anything, I decided to try
and see if she could cure the Old Madam.”
Cheng Zhou seemed to make a note of his response, though he didn’t say anything more..
