“It’s my pleasure,” Gary quickly said.
Ian simply hummed before he walked over and pulled Cindy by her hand. “All right, let’s go home.”
Cindy knew that they were going to put on an act now, so she cooperated and clung to Ian’s arm.
“Sure. Are you done with work?”
Ian nodded and made a sound of affirmation. “I just finished work before I came over. At first, I wanted
to call you to ask when you were coming back. I was going to pick you up if you haven’t gone back yet,
but here you are.”
They picked up from where the other left off. Their cooperation wasn’t half-bad.
Cindy waved at Gary. “I’ll be taking my leave then, Mr. Frye. Be careful on your way back.”
Gary nodded. “All right, see you.”
Cindy followed Ian into the residential area, only loosening her grip on Ian’s arm once they had walked
a good distance. She ended up breaking the silence first in order to smooth over the awkwardness.
“Why did you go out earlier? I think we still have some fruit at home. You don’t have to buy more; we
won’t be able to finish them.”
It took a few more seconds for Ian to reply. “I just went out for a walk and bought some on the way.”
His voice was already devoid of any of the gentle tone it had when they were with Gary earlier, and his
steps also widened considerably. Cindy had to half-jog to keep up with him.
The sudden change in attitude was staggering. Cindy couldn’t quite figure it out. What did I do to tick
him off?
Neither of them spoke after that as they returned to the house.
Aurora had already left, so the house was absolutely silent.
After they went inside, Cindy wanted to tell Ian about the things regarding the entertainment industry
she and Gary discussed during their dinner. However, Ian immediately whirled around and went to his
room after he tossed the bag of fruit onto the couch.
Judging from his expression and actions, she could tell that he was angry.
Cindy stood next to the couch, turning her head to see that Ian had already closed the door. Her
forehead creased up. What’s this all about now?
Last time, Ian lost his temper with her for no reason, and then they ended up making up for no clear
reason either. Did she have to go through this again so soon?
Cindy picked up the bag of fruits on the couch and brought them over to the kitchen. After washing
them, she placed the fruits in the fruit basket. A pause later, she turned around and strode over to Ian’s
bedroom. Then, running off the impulse that had bubbled up within her, she raised her hand and
knocked hard on Ian’s door.
Before Ian could answer her, she said, “Come out.”
A few moments of silence later, the door opened. Ian stood by the door, probably unaware why she
called him. “Something up?”
Cindy was a timid person. It actually wasn’t easy for her to muster up the courage to face Ian head-on.
Worried that she would immediately lose her nerve, she quickly spoke. “What’s up with you? Who are
you pulling that sour face for?”
Ian stiffened for a moment, and he looked at Cindy with a somewhat bewildered look.
Cindy also knew that her current behavior was far from her usual demeanor, but she didn’t give it a
second thought as she continued to talk to him. “Things were going fine earlier, but the moment I came
back after dinner, you started putting on that sour look. If I did something to anger you, say it. You don’t
need to go around doing any of this.”
Ian eyed Cindy, but he didn’t say a thing.
Cindy took advantage of the moment and recounted the previous incident. “Also, there was that time
when you went out and got yourself drunk. I don’t know what I did to tick you off then either, but you
gave me an attitude when you got back home. I’ve always thought that you were a forthcoming person
who would speak his mind if there was something wrong, not beat around the bush or be so passive-
aggressive. That’s why I’m telling you this now: just tell me if there’s anything you’re upset with. It’s
hard for me to figure out what’s wrong when you’re like this.”
Ian opened the door and once again entered his room.
Cindy followed him inside. “I am indeed your assistant, but that doesn’t mean I have to bend to your
every will. We both live under the same roof, so we’ll see each other every day. I think that in order to
keep everyone happy, it’s better to be frank if there’s something wrong.”
Ian strode over to the window before turning around so that his back faced the window. He then folded
his arms and looked at Cindy.
