Cindy’s expression froze for a second before she quickly answered, “Uh—yes. He introduced us.”
Some things need not be clarified and sometimes, white lies were for the best.
Clasping her cheeks, Naomi moaned, “Oh, my god, Cindy, I’m so jealous of your life! You have Ian as a
boyfriend and can network using his connections… Your life is reaching new heights!”
Patting her shoulder, Cindy commented, “Rein in your imagination. My life hasn’t reached any new
heights; I’m as poor as I used to be.”
Right as she said that, she glanced out of the corner of her eye, only to notice two particularly familiar
figures nearby.
Squinting, she stared at them. Their faces were indistinguishable as they were donning hats and
masks.
However, based on their silhouettes alone, she could tell that they resembled Ian and his mother.
Yet, she found it unlikely, for Ian would never come to a place like this. He preferred to sequester
himself at home instead whenever he had the time.
After working for him for so many months, she had an understanding of his habits.
Even if Aurora wanted to come out for a stroll and had insisted on his company, it was far more likely
that they would have gone to a shopping mall of some sort.
In the end, the throng of people passing in between them made it hard for Cindy to keep her eyes on
the duo, so she turned her gaze away after a few moments.
Putting it out of her mind, she turned to say to Naomi, “Let’s go. Didn’t you say you wanted to buy a
fragrance lamp? I think I see a stall over there selling them. I doubt the oil inside is of good quality,
though, so you’d best replace it yourself when you get home.”
Humming in agreement, Naomi reached up to catch hold of Cindy’s arm. “Let’s go!”
Meanwhile, nearby, Ian had his hands in his pockets and his brow creased into a frown. With his cap
pressed as far down his head as it could go, he asked, “What’s so great about places like this?”
Laughing, Aurora looked around. “The things sold here are much cheaper and more precious than the
things sold at malls and such. I always liked shopping for treasures here in the past.”
With that, she sped up and began to head in one direction.
Lifting his head slightly, he told her, “Slow down. There are so many people around.”
Suddenly, he frowned, for he could see Cindy standing not too far away.
He recognized the girl next to her as well.
Clearly, the pair had changed their clothes, for they were dressed slightly differently than in the
afternoon.
Nonetheless, perhaps because he was too familiar with Cindy, he could recognize her among the
crowd at a glance.
Currently, she spoke with the other girl and her shoulders shook with laughter.
Despite the distance, Ian felt like he could still see the dimple on her cheek.
Meanwhile, Aurora was standing at a stall as she browsed through the knick-knacks displayed there
and asked for their prices, saying that she could place them at home for decoration.
As he didn’t care much for items like these, he paid no attention to them.
Instead, he stood next to the stall, looking in the direction of Cindy and the other girl.
After standing in front of another stall for a while seemingly buying something, the two girls sashayed
away in another direction with a bag in hand.
Oblivious to his internal turmoil, Aurora picked up an item and asked him what he thought of it.
Without looking at it, Ian answered, “It’s fine. It’s beautiful. It’ll do. Buy it.”
Laughing, she told him, “You could at least pretend to take a look before brushing me off.”
Upon hearing that, he cooperatively glanced down at the item in her hand before nodding somberly.
“Yes, it’s quite pretty. Not bad at all. Buy it.”
Somewhat exasperated, Aurora forwent bargaining with the stall owner. Instead, she simply bought it
and had it put in a bag. “Alright, let’s go elsewhere. I won’t make you come to places like these with me
anymore if you’re going to look like I forced you at gunpoint. Where do you want to go? Shall we go to
the mall instead?”
Blinking his eyes at her, Ian answered, “There’s no need. This is fine.”
Aurora, however, frowned incredulously. “‘This is fine? Look at you! You haven’t smiled once since we
came here and you practically ignored all of my questions.”
Lifting his foot and walking forward, Ian muttered, “I’ve always been like this.”
