After that night, Armand moved into Regality Gardens. Aside from their daily meals, all the other
household chores, including washing Genevieve's clothes, were done by him.
Melissa felt her presence was redundant there, so she returned to Swallow Garden to take care of the
two kids.
She went to Swallow Garden in the morning, changed her clothes, and prepared breakfast for the two
children.
At around eight o'clock, Amanda, dressed in a black school uniform, skipped down the stairs with
Lucian trailing behind her.
He was also wearing his school uniform, but in contrast to Amanda, his facial features were arranged
into a composed expression, giving him a cool and handsome appearance.
“Melissa!” Amanda jogged forward to hug Melissa when she saw the latter. “Why are you back? How's
my mommy?”
Melissa replied, “Mr. Faulkner is taking care of Mrs. Faulkner. I don't have to wash the clothes there
and have nothing to do, so I can only return here to look after you two.”
Armand paid Melissa handsomely, so she felt guilty for idling about.
Amanda was jealous. “Daddy is so lucky to be able to keep Mommy company daily. I've not seen
Mommy in so long.”
While Melissa went into the kitchen to bring out the breakfast, Amanda pulled the chair beside Lucian
out and climbed up to take a seat.
He peeled the shell of a hard-boiled egg and placed it in her bowl. Then, he looked at her and let out an
adultlike sigh. “Are you missing Mommy?”
“No, that's not it.” Shaking her head, she leaned toward him and said, “Our situation is relatively fine. At
least Daddy is keeping Mommy company. However, Asel is so pitiful. Aunt Jojo hasn't returned in so
long.”
When Timothy came to Swallow Garden to have dinner last night, Amanda had noticed he seemed
exhausted, as if he hadn't gotten adequate rest in a long while.
Venturing a guess, she asked curiously, “Lucian, do you really think Aunt Jojo went overseas to work?
But what is keeping her abroad for so long? Did she quarrel with Uncle Tim?”
Uncle Tim and Aunt Jojo did have arguments in the past, but Aunt Jojo merely locked the doors and
forbade Uncle Tim from entering the house. Oddly, she decided to leave the country this time.
Lucian received the bowl of oatmeal handed to him by Melissa and began having his breakfast. “The
adults will deal with their personal matters.”
“But I'm missing Aunt Jojo too.” Amanda bit off half of the hard-boiled egg in one bite and mumbled,
“What if Aunt Jojo is truly having a row with Uncle Tim and is reluctant to come back? What if she's
already looking for a stepdad for Asel?”
The more she thought about it, the more she believed it to be the case. “Take a look at how many years
Mr. Valentine tried to win our mommy's affection. He even nearly became our stepdad.”
Although I like Mr. Valentine, I can only have one daddy. Besides, I'm not that biased, either. Daddy is
the most important to me, and Mr. Valentine is just second to him.
After she swallowed her food, she continued in a glum tone, “In the past, whenever Mr. Valentine was
not by my side, he would call me from time to time, but it has been so long since he last contacted me.
I reckon he already has his own baby after marrying Ms. Helt.”
Amanda felt anguished because she was suddenly disregarded by someone who had previously
cherished her.
Lucian did not wish to see her dejected demeanor, so he patted her head and said, “They have their
baby, but you have a brother. Do I not take good care of you?”
She rolled her eyes at him. “You took my pudding last night.”
“That's because you ate three puddings already.” Lucian retorted righteously, “I was afraid you would
be too full, so I kindly helped you eat that remaining pudding.”
“You're just shameless, Lucian!”
Amanda felt a little better after bantering with her brother.
After they finished their breakfast, the kids carried their bags and left the house. Steven was supposed
to send them to school that day.
When they stepped out of the house, Lucian perceptively sensed someone staring at himself and
Amanda, but when he casually glanced in that direction, he failed to notice anything unusual.
“Lucian,” Amanda called her brother when she noticed him rooted to his spot after she got into the car.
Lucian looked away and got into the vehicle.
Once the car left the mansion, Amanda moved closer to Lucian and whispered, “Lucian, aren't you very
skilled at using a computer? Why don't you try locating Aunt Jojo's whereabouts?”
He was rendered speechless. “I don't know everything just because I'm proficient at using a computer.
How would I know about Aunt Jojo's whereabouts?”
“You're useless, Lucian,” she grumbled in an undertone.
