Chapter 813
As she thought of the thousand paper cranes in the glass jar being folded by hand one after another, Genevieve
was touched. She felt warm and tenderhearted. Soon, another matter came to her mind.
Since Steven delivered the item for Armand, it meant that he knew Armand's latest whereabouts.
Why did he insist he knew nothing?
The scenes in the resort that night passed through Genevieve's mind one after another. Her face suddenly sank,
and she carried the jar of paper cranes into the walk-in closet.
Lucian followed her into the closet slowly.
He folded his arms across his chest and leaned against the door, watching his mother tuck the jar of cranes into a
corner and cover it up with a piece of cloth. “Mommy, I overheard everything you said to Uncle Cooper. First of all, I
didn't mean to eavesdrop. My hearing is just too good.”
Genevieve laughed while feeling angry at the same time. Seeing the kid's face that closely resembled Armand's,

she walked over to hold and rub it as she remembered his father with some resentment. “I feel miserable today,
being bullied by your father and his new love.”
It took Lucian a lot of effort to pull his mother's hands away from his face.
He said to her earnestly, “Mommy, in a moment of resentment, you might hurt yourself. You have to look further
ahead.”
“Do you mean to say that even though your daddy has a new love, I'm not supposed to be angry?” Genevieve
asked quietly.
Letting out a sigh, Lucian pointed at himself and asked, “Whose son am I?”
Seeing his mother snorting with resentment, Lucian added calmly, “Even if Daddy has a new love, I am his
biological son. Even if he's in a position of power, I will still be his son. With him helping me pave the way, maybe I
can secure an even higher position.”
Genevieve stared blankly at her son.
She knew that most of the traits in her son's character were inherited from Armand—he was calm and smart. Just
like Armand, he would take one cautious step at a time and look ahead, but she did not expect him to be so smart.

“I just realized that your dad has been useful,” Genevieve stated suddenly. “His genes are good and so I was able to
have a smart son like you.”
Lucian smiled, showing two dimples. “I shall take revenge on them for the way they bully you now. Don't worry.
When I do it, I wouldn't let anyone come to their aid.”
“Sweetie, come here.” Genevieve was extremely moved. Holding her son in an embrace, she stroked him. “You're
the best. You love me so much.”
Lucian patted his mother on her back.
“Mommy, if you're still sad, go find yourself a boyfriend. Mandy and I encourage you.”
“Well said, Lucian,” Genevieve snorted. “Since he has a new love, I can have a new partner, too. I'll find someone
young and handsome to be your stepfather. Who wants an old man like him?”
There are so many men around. Who wants an old man like him?
In the middle of the night, Johanna was awoken by a thunderstorm.

Asel, who was sleeping beside her, was also startled. As she shuddered, she started crying loudly. Leaning forward,
Johanna patted her child and consoled her.
However, no matter how she tried to calm Asel, the latter would not stop crying, and her face turned red.
Johanna felt that something was wrong. With the back of her hand, she tested the girl's forehead, and it felt hot.
Quickly, she dressed the child and carried her outside.
Johanna woke the housekeeper and asked her to call the family doctor immediately.
Usually, the nanny took care of Asel, but she was on leave today because she had some errands to run. Since it was
a rainy night and Asel was behaving well, Johanna did not call her to come back.
Johanna opened a bottle of medicine and put it to Asel's lips, but the kid was not very cooperative, and it took a
long time to give her half the dosage.
Asel cried so much that her voice weakened, and her breathing slowed.
Johanna realized that Asel's body was flushed, and her forehead felt hot. Knowing that it was a high fever, she
panicked immediately. Carrying the child, she hurried downstairs but bumped into Timothy, who was rushing
upstairs.
