Chapter 1914: You Two Are Really Alike
“Aiya, Xiaoyu, there’s really nothing wrong with me. It’s just that I got sick from overworking. This is a very common thing for people in our circle. You don’t have to make a fuss about it. Seriously. It’s just a small illness. I spent so much time in the hospital today. People might think that I’ve contracted the entire hospital.”
Mr Li said in a self-deprecating manner. Warmth flowed through his heart as he looked into her eyes.
“Xiaoyu, don’t worry about me. I don’t have anything else to do here. Let’s go back. We have to get the hospital back to normal. There’s no point in just standing here.”
“Okay, let’s go home.”
Tang Xiaoyu finally felt relieved that she could bring Mr Li home. However, at this moment, she was still thinking about Gu Zhengrong, who was drunk because of her. She did not know where the chauffeur had taken him.
“Xiaoyu, have you seen the document I gave you?”
Mr Li sat beside Tang Xiaoyu and looked at the people around him without any emotion. Instead, she seemed to have lost the courage that she used to step on Gu Zhengrong with her high heels.
“Xiaoyu?”
Mr Li called out again, but Tang Xiaoyu was not listening to him. He turned around and saw her looking out of the window. Her thoughts had already flown away.
“Mm? What is it?”
Only then did Tang Xiaoyu return to her senses. She turned to look at Mr Li and asked, “What’s wrong, Mr Li? Is there something wrong?”
“What are you thinking about? I called you a few times, but you didn’t respond.”
“I was thinking about that document.”
Tang Xiaoyu found a reason but Mr Li did not accept it.
“I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking about Gu Zhengrong, right? In the end, you two are really the same type of people.”
“What kind of people?”
Tang Xiaoyu did not understand what Mr Li meant when he said that they were the same type of person. Was she really the same type of person as Gu Zhengrong? The feeling of not being able to love became a regret in his world.
“Of course, they’re the same type of people who would sacrifice themselves for love. You’re like this, and so is Gu Zhengrong. It’s just that you guys haven’t learned to let go of your choices yet. As an old man, I can see better as an onlooker.”
“Mr Li, do you think that I’m too cruel to him?”
Tang Xiaoyu still asked this question. Looking into Mr Li’s eyes, she already had an answer.
“You just can’t let it go. Being unable to love is a kind of regret. It’s just that the way you choose is different from him. You choose to hate, you choose to fight back, and he chose to cling onto you like a fool, and he chose to not let go until he caught up to you. But all of this is because he loves you. It’s just that this love came later and it’s exactly the opposite of your style.”
Tang Xiaoyu listened attentively, but deep down, she did not change her opinion easily. She and Gu Zhengrong were not from the same world, and they could not possibly have so much in common.
“Mr Li, perhaps I really am very similar to him, but I really don’t miss him anymore. Perhaps it’s because I once loved him so deeply that I didn’t let him go so quickly. After all, I was used to being nice to him in the past. I didn’t do anything wrong and I didn’t feel sorry for him because of this. I just felt regretful that I didn’t walk out of the trap he had set for me as soon as possible. I still kept jumping in.”
“Xiaoyu, don’t regret it in the future.”
Seeing that he could not convince her, Mr Li could only nod helplessly.
“Alright, Mr Li, trust me. I won’t regret it. I might regret anything I do, but I definitely won’t regret about this.”
Tang Xiaoyu’s gentle voice seemed to give his insecure heart a new boost of courage.
The car soon arrived at the Li family’s villa. Tang Xiaoyu carried Duo Duo upstairs and entered her room. Duo Duo was sound asleep in her arm like a pure flower with its most delicate stamen on.
“Duo Duo, do you know? Mommy can do anything for you. Even if Daddy didn’t want us back then, it’s fine. You still have Mommy. Mommy still has you. The two of us can live well together…”
As Tang Xiaoyu spoke softly to Duo Duo, her phone, which she had placed in her bag on the sofa, suddenly rang. It was Pei Ge.
Tang Xiaoyu carefully placed Duo Duo in the cradle before turning around to answer the call.
“What’s wrong, Ge Ge?”
“Xiaoyu, you went back to America. When did you go back? Why didn’t you tell me?”
It was Pei Ge’s anxious voice on the other end of the line. Listening to her best friend’s concerned voice, Tang Xiaoyu finally felt at ease.
“I brought my daughter back to America. I didn’t inform you since you were busy dealing with Old lady Qu’s matters, but don’t worry. I’m doing well here. Guess who I met when I came back?”
Tang Xiaoyu held her phone and walked to the balcony outside the window. Looking at her sleeping daughter’s face, her heart softened, and her voice became gentler and more radiant.
“Who is it? Do I know him?”
Pei Ge was flipping through the documents regarding Old lady Qu’s assets. Oh gosh, this old woman did not do much but cheated on Old master Qu and even hid a lot of assets. They were all secret funds.
“Mr Li.”
The moment Tang Xiaoyu said the words ‘Mr Li’, Pei Ge, who was flipping through the documents in her hands, froze.
“Mr Li? That famous philanthropist from the American Chinatown?”
Pei Ge widened her eyes at the pile of magazines on the coffee table and quickly found a magazine with the words ‘Mr Li’ written on it.
“Yes, that’s him.”
“But they’re all saying that he won’t show his true face to others. Xiaoyu, are you sure he’s not in the wrong? Don’t be fooled by them.”
Pei Ge revealed a look of worry. She did not know how Tang Xiaoyu was doing in America, nor did she know about her relationship with Gu Zhengrong. She did not even know where her best friend was living with her child.
“I’m not mistaken. The name card he gave me is his real identity. Moreover, I’m still living in his house with Duo Duo. I’m Mr Li’s goddaughter now, and Duo Duo is his god-granddaughter.”
