Chapter 1634: Only Like This
“Yes, she is in front.”
Ji Ziming eyed the washroom in the waiting hall. Sitting in the wooden chair, he passed the documents in his hand to the people beside him. There were ten or so standing on either side of him, each wearing a black uniform, clearly having great fighting prowess.
“Don’t you think this is a little overkill?”
Pei Ge thought that their target was only a woman. Even if she had a twin sister, it was not certain that they would appear together; rather, it was too much to use this many bodyguards against two women.
“Ji Miao and her sister are taekwondo experts.”
As expected, right after he said this, the woman obediently sat down in the chair and looked to the front, as though their target would appear from there in the next second.
“Ge Ge, leave the job of catching Ji Miao to me. You can go rest in the car if you are feeling sleepy.”
He could not bear to see her suffer after enduring a long travel time to H City, yet they would be able to take the plane back to the capital from here.
“It’s fine; I’ll accompany you here.”
Ji Miao was her employee. It was already a hassle to have the man attack for her. She would not miss the moment when that woman was caught. Even if she had nothing, she was still willing to take the gamble.
At the same time, Ji Miao, who was sitting in the washroom, watched the second hand on her watch tick slowly. She could still hear the ruckus outside, and the announcement for boarding the train was still being broadcast. Everything was going according to her plans.
She did not find anything queer about it.
When she heard the announcement about the train she was going to ride, she opened the door to the washroom. The moment she stepped out, she spotted a couple sitting in phoebe zhennan wooden chairs. The two seemed to have been waiting for her for a long time.
Frantic, she quickly ran toward the left. Upon realizing with a start that the men in black in the surroundings were not moving, Pei Ge was about to ask them to catch the target when she spotted a few of them jump out in the direction Ji Miao had fled.
Hopelessly outnumbered, the woman was soon subdued by these men.
Her expression was pitiful yet apathetic. When she was being held down in front of the couple, her voice was still filled with a hint of pity and sorrow.
“Sir, ma’am, I was wrong. I promise not to do it again.”
She knew to beg for forgiveness and knew that it was easier to target Pei Ge. Still, she had missed the call this time. No matter how much she begged, the woman’s heart remained unmoved. The latter did not deign to respond to her.
“Ji Miao, if this did not happen, my impression of you would be this strong. You are the HR manager, so you must know that there are people who have the same mentality as you do, right?”
Pei Ge’s cold eyes seemed to be smiling, but in truth, they were like poisoned daggers which plunged into Ji Miao’s body.
“I don’t know; I don’t know anything.”
She bit her lower lip. The beads of sweat were already dripping down from her forehead, and soon, her neatly cut bangs were drenched in sweat, making her look extremely pitiable and sorrowful.
It was as though she were a chick that had gotten its wings entangled. Even if she used all her strength to struggle, she still could not escape Ji Ziming’s hands.
“Don’t know?”
Pei Ge stood up. From the moment Ji Miao stepped out of the washroom, she realized that she was not that benevolent. People who did wrong should suffer the consequences of their actions. She was not a sage, and there was no need for her to forgive her subordinates for their wrongdoing.
After all, this time, the harm this woman had brought to the company was devastating. If not for her coming up with a solution quickly, as well as her man’s capability in obtaining information, the situation could have been much worse. Under Ji Ziming’s orders and influence, the leaked company information was also quickly returned to her hands.
“I really don’t know anything. Please just let me off. I truly won’t dare do this again.”
Ji Miao practically sprawled on the floor, yet even her kowtowing was useless to Pei Ge.
If this was in the past, the latter might truly choose to let her off after some light punishment.
Now, that was impossible. Because she was no longer her past self and the man beside her would not let her be that kind and soft-hearted.
“But now, you have no more escape. I don’t have too.”
She looked at the train that this ex-subordinate of hers was supposed to board. The hesitance in her eyes exposed her bit of kindness, but this did not mean that she would let the latter off.
“Return to the capital with me now. No one will take responsibility for your mistakes, but what I can tell you is that I will help you take care of your sister.”
This was all she could do.
After finding out about the things this woman had done, she did some digging and found out that the latter had a younger sister in the countryside. The reason this ex-subordinate had accepted the bribe was to pay for all her sister’s medical fees.
Her sister was clearly not about to die, yet this woman still took the bait.
She had to admit that this woman’s feelings for her younger sister were similar to how protective Tang Xiaoyu was of her in the past. It was impossible for her to let her off. She would hand her over to the police to receive her due sentence, but it did not stop her from pitying Ji Hao.
They were also a poor pair of sisters in distress. Alas, Pei Ge did not know where her best friend was right now.
“Madam, I…”
Ji Miao knew that this was the largest concession the other could give. Her eyes stilled as she could not find her voice. Her eyes were as pitiful and desolate as the wind that blew when the train left, blowing back to her rationality.
If she had not accepted the money back then, if she had not stolen the company’s trade secrets, if the doctor had not told her that Ji Hao’s sickness could not be dragged any longer, perhaps, she and Pei Ge might have been the best superior and subordinate.
Unfortunately, there were no ‘ifs’ in this world.
She could only resign herself and pay for her actions with her youth.
The group brought Ji Miao back to their black Mercedes-Benz. When Ji Miao was dragged off, she turned to thank Pei Ge. This one statement felt as though it weighed tons, causing ripples in the latter’s heart. As long as she was willing to turn her head around, she would see the other’s tear-stricken face.
Filled with guilt and shame.
She hated herself for accepting that person’s enticement. She was remorseful about how she had treated Pei Ge—the one good boss who did things for the good of the company and her employees.
