Chapter 1716: Just Wait for Dinner Tonight
“Ge Ge, don’t take it to heart with Charlie. After being by your uncle’s side for so long, he has his own way of thinking and is more or less different from us.”
Zhang Manhua placed the stir-fried vegetables on the plate. One woman in the kitchen was speaking aggrievedly while the other was consoling her.
Soon, Pei Ge’s phone rang.
“Ge Ge, I’ll be there in a bit. The children are here, too. Uncle wants to come over no matter what. You guys have to make more delicious food tonight. We’ll be there in about half an hour.”
Ji Ziming’s voice was cold with a hint of certainty and Qu Xiujie’s laughter could be heard clearly from the receiver. “I say, Ge Ge, you must make more delicious food for uncle. It’s true that I want to eat your cooking so you guys must serve me good food and drinks.”
Pei Ge’s lips curled up as she listened. “Uncle, I understand. Don’t worry; I’ll make more. They’ll definitely be your favorite dishes.”
“That’s more like it.”
Qu Xiujie was satisfied.
Pei Ge hung up and started discussing with Zhang Manhua in the kitchen.
“Mom, there’s no need to make so much delicious food for Ziming. He can’t finish them.”
Zhang Manhua smiled as she kneaded the dough. She could make any shape that she wanted and there was nothing she could not make.
“It’s fine. Even if we can’t finish it, we can save it for tomorrow.”
Zhang Manhua’s thriftiness had not changed even until now. It was not that she did not want to change, but the right person whom she met had never asked her to change her original appearance. As long as she liked something and was willing to continue doing it; as long as she was willing, that person would agree with her and support her endlessly.
The most beautiful thing in the world was nothing more than this. To have someone who doted on you and supported you as always, to fulfill all your wishes and hobbies, even if it meant spending all his wealth and manpower.
Seeing that her mother was in a good mood, Pei Ge did not say anything else. She merely raised her head and saw the clock on the wall. Almost ten minutes had passed since Ji Ziming said that they would be here in thirty minutes.
“Mom, shouldn’t we cook faster? Otherwise, when uncle and Ziming arrive, they’ll have to wait.”
She quickened her actions and increased the pressure of the water in the sink. Soon, the water level in the sink covered the entire plate.
“Ge Ge, don’t be anxious. I know what to do. Even if they come now, we can still eat immediately.”
“Mom, are you for real? Why do I feel that you’re lying? The braised fish I made isn’t ready yet and because of Butler Charlie earlier, it’s all gone. If you’re not ready, how can I cook Ziming and the children’s favorite dish?”
Pei Ge was feeling lost as she stood at the side in a pink apron and watched Zhang Manhua prepare the desserts in an orderly manner. As long as it was prepared by her mother, there would be many surprises.
“Don’t worry, Ge Ge. Just wait in the living room to receive your uncle and the rest. I’ll handle the matters in the kitchen, so don’t worry. Quickly take off your apron and gloves and put them aside. I’ll be here. You guys can just wait for dinner tonight.”
Zhang Manhua laughed as she looked at Pei Ge, who was standing at the side, and said softly, “It’s rare for me to return home today, so you don’t have to help me here. Quickly go rest in the living room. When Ziming and the children arrive, you’ll be busy.”
Zhang Manhua lowered her head and continued with her work.
The white dough seemed to have a life of its own. No matter what shape Zhang Manhua molded, it would still look beautiful. As her skills were superb, the dough in her hands seemed to have a fresh tension.
“Ge Ge, go rest in the living room. I’ll be in the kitchen.”
Zhang Manhua wanted to chase her daughter into the living room again.
“Okay, okay, okay. I’ll go, I’ll go. I’ll go over now, okay? If you don’t want me to help you, then forget it. I’ll go over myself.”
Pei Ge smiled and nodded. She put down the things in her hands and turned around to remove her apron from the hook on the wall. The pink apron seemed to be silently complaining that its mission ended so quickly.
“Ge Ge, when you leave, tell Charlie to give your uncle a call.”
Only then did Zhang Manhua remember that she had not called the person overseas ever since she left the airport. She had completely forgotten about that person once she saw Pei Ge.
“Mom, you’ve landed for so long, yet you haven’t told uncle that you’ve safely arrived? If he finds out that you’re so careless, he’ll definitely be heartbroken.”
Pei Ge stood at the kitchen door and looked at Zhang Manhua who was smiling charmingly when she mentioned the person.
“No, it’s just that even if I didn’t call your uncle, Charlie must’ve called your uncle the moment he got off the plane to say that we’ve safely arrived.”
Zhang Manhua was not worried at all.
“That’s good. Charlie seems to be very responsible.”
Pei Ge’s impression of Charlie changed slightly.
In her impression, this fair-skinned and blue-eyed Charlie seemed to have a hint of humanity in him, which made Pei Ge respect him a little more. After all, there were too few responsible people in this world, so the few who existed were like gold shining in the crowd.
There were too few that they became rare.
“That’s right, so your uncle was rest assured to arrange for him to follow me back home.”
Although Zhang Manhua was not unsatisfied with Butler Charlie, she respected him more. After all, it was not easy to be so loyal to a master.
Pei Ge understood and turned around to leave the kitchen. Charlie was standing not far from the kitchen with his back straight. He was looking around warily, as though if there was any danger, he would wipe it out instantly.
Pei Ge could not help but admire Butler Charlie’s vigilance. Compared to the bodyguards Ji Ziming had arranged, he was indeed comparable to four or five bodyguards or strong men.
“Miss Pei Ge, may I know if Madam…”
“My mom is inside making dinner tonight. Don’t worry.”
