Chapter 356: Just How Powerful is He?
At the sight, Pope Innocent flew into a rage right away. The Eight Knights of the Faith that he painstakingly nurtured were killed so easily.
He had been around for ages, but nobody had ever harassed him to such an extent.
Even back in the middle ages when the Covenant of Darkness was at the height of their might, he had never feared taking them on. Instead, he took the Roman Curia to conquer places east and west alike, cementing its renown as the number one cultivation force in Europe.
Despite this, Lu Xuan was now gatecrashing his turf. That fact was something that Pope Innocent couldn’t bear at all.
The pope half-knelt at the feet of that two-winged angel and said, “Please allow me to kill this infidel and end his blasphemy towards the glory of our Lord!”
The angel nodded. “Go. Kill the infidel.”
The pope rose and looked at Lu Xuan. His extravagant robes billowed in the wind as he burst with a powerful aura.
The energy fluctuations on his body were identical to that of the eight knights; both parties wielded holy light, yet his level of power when doing so was far above that of the knights’.
In his case, the level of power with the holy light had reached the pinnacle attainable by those at the Airborne Realm; even then, such people couldn’t achieve his level of power far above their own. He practically seemed to begin breaking into Divine Treasure Realm.
Every single formidable cultivator present looked at Pope Innocent with dazed eyes, as if they were looking at what they would become in the future.
Everyone felt as if they had been ramming themselves into an insurmountable roadblock after reaching the Airborne Realm. What Pope Innocent was now displaying suggested that he was so powerful that he was halfway into becoming a being at Divine Treasure Realm; that allowed them to catch a glimpse of the coming future.
“What makes you think that you could kill me? That bird guy behind you?” Lu Xuan jeered away as he grinned.
Pope Innocent shouted, “Silence! You, the emissary of blasphemy, shall atone for your sins with your blood!”
The holy light that Pope Innocent clad himself in soon fluctuated intensely to instantly form a massive halo and sending it flying in Lu Xuan’s direction.
Lu Xuan seemed to be unable to react at the moment, becoming ensnared by that halo right away.
That halo was not a construct of conventional energies, but a power item itself. As something that the pope had been crafting for ages, it possessed unparalleled power. Several powerful enemies had been ensnared by his godly halo before quickly being hit by a single blow.
A holy sword materialized in his hand, which he swung hard at Lu Xuan while the latter was being ensnared.
Clang!
Everyone thought that Lu Xuan was about to meet his end by that sword, supposedly having been immobilized completely by the halo. They were proven wrong as he burst with a terrifying aura and instantly freed himself from that incredibly resilient godly halo, shattering it in the process.
He then extended his hand forward and caught the incoming blade of holy light with his bare hand.
“How is that possible? How could a man of flesh and blood like you be able to do this?” The pope was in utter disbelief. Nobody knew how powerful that swing of the holy sword was better than he did. The attack was so terrifying that he could have brought down a skyscraper with just one swing.
Even so, that unbelievably powerful move of his was unable to even cut open Lu Xuan’s defense. It caught even him completely off-guard.
Lu Xuan then extended his hand and summoned the Dragonslayer, unleashing a blast of sword aura.
Pfftt!
The pope’s body was hit by the blast.
He immediately released the holy sword in his hand right and managed to narrowly evade the attack.
However, his wizened face was filled with both rage and shock towards the fact that he was almost killed by Lu Xuan’s attack.
The attack was unbelievably shocking.
Technically speaking, he was actually cut by the attack that Lu Xuan brought down on him; he had nearly been bisected by the blast.
Had it not been for the protective charms imbued in the cleric robe that he was wearing, he would have most probably been cut in half at the waist right on the spot.
The price of surviving that attack was that, since it was absolutely obliterated by the attack, the defensive array was rendered completely useless from then on out.
He inherited the cleric robe from the previous pope. It was a relic that was passed down from one pope to the next, and it had never sustained this much damage in history.
A tinge of shock was seen within his eyes. It was worth noting that his attacks were completely useless against Lu Xuan, while any attack that Lu Xuan used could easily incapacitate him.
That was what shocked Pope Innocent the most about Lu Xuan.
That seething rage that he was burning in when he saw Lu Xuan all eight of his knights was utterly extinguished, and he began to be able to consider things calmly.
However, Lu Xuan’s attack did not end just yet. It took him almost only a second to charge towards the pope again.
The next blast of sword aura came at some awkward angle, which seemed unbelievably absurd yet undoubtedly potent. Even so, the attack landed squarely on Pope Innocent’s chest.
Pfftt!
Blood gushed in a frenzy from Pope Innocent’s chest. It no longer mattered how high his cultivation level was or how proud he was of it; his level of power was now rendered completely useless.
Lu Xuan’s moves with the sword were so blindingly swift that he was unable to see them coming at all.
A huge gash was seen opening up on his chest as a result of that slash connecting. Common folks would have most probably died on the spot, but he remained in the air stubbornly.
However, his face now looked incredibly pale.
Despite having brought about everything he has got, he could not believe that he was completely unable to stop even a single attack from Lu Xuan’s sword.
Nothing in the world could best speed. Anything and everything could be torn apart, no matter how resilient they may be.
Everyone across the world who was watching the live broadcast of the fight was now utterly shocked. Several devotees were also left astonished.
To them, Pope Innocent should have been almost invincible. No one had expected him to be so severely injured by one swing of Lu Xuan’s sword.
Had it not been for that protective charm that the pope had on him, the attack would have most probably bisected at the waist.
The cultivators who were present were even more shocked. The pope’s combat prowess was far above theirs. Aside from the handful of top-notch cultivators standing at the very peak of the Airborne Realm, the pope could have easily taken on every single one that remained.
Rarely anybody dared to even say that they could rival him, and the number of people that did dare to say it were truly few and far between.
Despite all of that, someone who was deemed so unbelievably powerful was still rendered utterly helpless before Lu Xuan’s attacks.
Just how powerful was Lu Xuan?
That was the only question that came to the minds of many. They just could not help but ask themselves this.
Many felt compelled to reassess Lu Xuan’s level of powers anew.
When they first saw the pope burst with his power, they all thought that while Lu Xuan was no doubt powerful, that was nonetheless the best that the latter would be able to get.
No one expected Lu Xuan to demonstrate possessing such a terrifying level of power.
Pope Innocent, who all of them saw to have supposedly be Lu Xuan’s equal in more ways than one, turned out to be no match for the young man.
They were almost only able to see Lu Xuan unsheathe his Dragonslayer, while the pope had already taken heavy damage at the very next moment.
The attack was quite fast, indeed!
They were all thinking that there was simply no way for anyone to even shield themselves from that terrifying slash. The attack was so swift that they were unable to begin thinking how to take it on.
The only way to weather through such attacks was simply to equip oneself with as many defensive power items, formations, and barriers amongst other protective objects.
While doing so would still not make them rival Lu Xuan in terms of speed, it would have nonetheless prevented them from being taken out with a single strike.
