Chapter 1283: You’re Putting Minimal Thought Into the Present!
Bai Xiaonian, who was already asleep, was jolted awake by the loud slamming of the door, her heart beating especially quickly…
She lifted the blankets off of her, then came out of the bedroom, looking really sleepy still.
“Dad… what’s the matter?”
Bai Xiaonian asked upon seeing Lu Jinnan’s father standing stiffly at the entrance of the kitchen while staring at the door.
Not wanting to worry Bai Xiaonian, Lu Jinnan’s father forced a stiff smile and said, “Nothing. Xiao Bei threw a fit and left with Xiao Cai.”
Bai Xiaonian glanced into the kitchen.
Could Lu Jinnan have made things difficult for Cai Jingyao?
“Since it’s only us three eating, we don’t need that many dishes… Just four dishes and one soup will be enough. There’s a fish in the steamer. I’ll stir fry one more dish, and we can start to eat!” Lu Jinnan came out of the kitchen and said to Bai Xiaonian.
Bai Xiaonian nodded, not pursuing the matter.
“Dad… you bring the food to the table first. I’ll be done soon!” Lu Jinnan held his father’s shoulders.
Lu Jinnan’s father nodded, sighing indistinctly.
“I’ll set the table!” Bai Xiaonian said with a smile.
After entering the kitchen, Lu Jinnan’s father raised a dish and said to Lu Jinnan, “Why don’t you get someone to follow Xiao Bei? I’m afraid that child…”
“Don’t worry, Dad! Xiao Bei is my only brother… Regardless of what happens, I won’t really wash my hands of him!” Lu Jinnan’s attitude was much better now that he was speaking to his father.
During the meal, no one mentioned Lu Jinbei or Cai Jingyao again. After lunch, after keeping Lu Jinnan’s father company for a while, Lu Jinnan left with Bai Xiaonian to visit Bai Xiaonian’s father at the hospital.
On the way, Bai Xiaonian asked Lu Jinnan, “Did you make things difficult for Cai Jingyao? Is that why Lu Jinbei left with Cai Jingyao?”
“That woman doesn’t speak a word of truth. She even tried to show me the video on her phone, saying Xiao Bei had forced himself on her back then… She was perhaps trying to soothe her relationship with you through me.” Lu Jinnan didn’t hide anything from Bai Xiaonian.
“I think she’s trying to get you to help soothe her relationship with me, then hook up with you!” Bai Xiaonian couldn’t resist laughing. She understood Cai Jingyao well.
Lu Jinnan said nothing.
“Cai Jingyao knows that, based on my temper, I likely won’t make up with her. So long as you promised her… she would have an excuse to keep looking for you. She could then put on some act of accidentally letting me find out that you two were in contact. Once I exploded… her opportunity would come!”
Bai Xiaonian caressed her tummy. “Does this person have too much confidence in herself, or is she underestimating the trust I have in my lover?”
A faint smile appeared on Lu Jinnan’s lips. “You trust me a lot?”
Bai Xiaonian nodded. “Of course…”
Lu Jinnan revealed a satisfied smile. He reached out and held his little bride’s petite hand, then placed it by his lips and kissed it. “Hearing you say that makes me so happy, Xiaonian!”
“Mm, seeing you so happy after I reveal my innermost thoughts to you makes me happy too!” Bai Xiaonian turned sideways and gazed at Lu Jinnan.
She suddenly recalled something Lin Nuan said to her…
The secret to getting along as a married couple… was interaction and communication!
She and Lu Jinnan were both stubborn people. If the two of them didn’t communicate, they would only bottle up their anger with each other in their hearts!
Lin Nuan also said that it might be hard to get Lu Jinnan to freely speak his thoughts first, so what Bai Xiaonian could do was be honest with Lu Jinnan first, and Lu Jinnan would, in turn, tell her everything.
Indeed…
It was more comfortable for a married couple to interact in this manner.
She and Lu Jinnan loved each other, so it was faster for them to come together.
At the red light, Lu Jinnan stopped the car.
Bai Xiaonian turned sideways and saw a frail Hong Jinyun panting as she supported herself against a pillar under the bridge.
Bai Xiaonian looked up. “Why is Hong Jinyun here?”
Lu Jinnan looked over, following Bai Xiaonian’s line of sight, and saw Hong Jinyun sit down feebly while holding onto the pillar. Her hand was clutching her chest, and it seemed like she was having difficulty breathing.
Bai Xiaonian turned back and saw Lu Jinnan frowning. She whipped out her phone. “Shall I be kind and call 120?”
Seeing passersby going up to Hong Jinyun to ask her how she was, Lu Jinnan said to Bai Xiaonian, “If she really needs to go to the hospital, passersby will help her call. We don’t have to worry!”
Green light.
Lu Jinnan released the brake and continued on his way…
Knowing that Lu Jinnan was doing this in consideration of her feelings, Bai Xiaonian was in an excellent mood.
She wasn’t a kind person to begin with. She had merely suggested calling 120 to make it clear to Lu Jinnan that she didn’t want to see him helping Hong Jinyun.
But Lu Jinnan performed better than Bai Xiaonian had expected.
“Are you pledging your allegiance to me?” Bai Xiaonian asked with a smile.
“Of course. Someone once told me… if you love someone, you must tell her. Else, based on your personality, you’ll likely let your thoughts run wild and ruminate!” Lu Jinnan couldn’t help laughing out loud.
“Who told you this? Nuan Nuan… or Fu Huai’an?” Bai Xiaonian pressed as she straightened her back.
She guessed it was Lin Nuan. After all, other than her own father, only Lin Nuan and Song Yao understood her so well. Song Yao was in Morocco now, and she didn’t have opportunities to talk to Lu Jinnan, so Lin Nuan was the only possible candidate.
“It was Lin Nuan…” Lu Jinnan didn’t hide it from her.
Bai Xiaonian smiled. “Nuan Nuan worries so much over our affairs! Why don’t we give Nuan Nuan a present to thank her…”
Other than her father, likely only Lin Nuan would go to so much effort for her.
“Okay, you can decide what to give her!” Lu Jinnan said.
Bai Xiaonian thought about it…
“How about… wish paper scrolls! In the future, whatever wish Nuan Nuan has, she can write it on the wish paper scrolls and come to either of us. Regardless of the wish, we’ll have to fulfill it for her!” Bai Xiaonian slapped her hands together, feeling as though she had returned to her younger days, her brain brimming with sweet ideas.
“You’re putting minimal thought into the present!” Lu Jinnan couldn’t resist saying.
“What do you know!” Bai Xiaonian retorted.
This was a sentiment between them girls…
“Right!” Bai Xiaonian turned sideways and looked at her husband. “When ‘Red Rivers’ shows in cinemas, book a theater to show our support! After all, Nuan Nuan and Xiao Liuli will be appearing in it, so it’s ridiculous for us not to show support!”
“Okay, whatever you say!” Lu Jinnan squeezed Bai Xiaonian’s petite hand, his voice doting.
…
In Cai Jingyao’s home, she stood before the countertop in her open kitchen and waited for the water to boil. Her vision fell upon Lu Jinbei, who was sitting on the sofa with his legs on the coffee table as he played games. Her French manicured nails rapped gently against the countertop.
Now that Lu Jinbei left the Lu family, how was she going to meet Lu Jinnan again?
Hearing the sound of the kettle, Cai Jingyao subconsciously bent over and retrieved some teacups from the cabinet…
