Lin Nuan took off her shoes, ignored Fu Tianci, who was sitting on the sofa, and walked straight towards Tuan Tuan’s room.
Fu Tianci glanced at Lin Nuan as she walked up the stairs. Annoyed, he pursed his lips. He speculated that Lin Nuan was probably making use of Tuan Tuan to get close to Fu Huai’an.
Lin Nuan opened the door gently and saw Tuan Tuan sprawled head down on the bed, asleep. There was nothing covering him, and he was wearing a purplish blue hooded sweatshirt and denims. He sported blue and white striped socks on his little feet, one of which was jutting out of the bed.
Lin Nuan tiptoed over to the side of the bed. Tuan Tuan side profile was visible, and he had laid his fair and chubby cheek on his pillow. There was a wet patch on his blue pillowcase with cartoons, and his thick curly lashes were glazed with tears.
His small hands were placed just beside his mouth, which was slightly opened. His fair and stubby fingers were curled up into a half fist.
The rainy and gloomy weather made the room seem even darker. Tuan Tuan’s soft and even breathing sounded out.
Lin Nuan pulled the covers lightly over Tuan Tuan and gazed at his features. It reminded her of Sister Xiangsi, and the memories brought tears to her eyes.
Tuan Tuan was in a deep sleep and only woke up when the sky had turned dark. He pushed himself up on the bed and sat upright. Rubbing his eyes, he was astonished to see a sleeping Lin Nuan lying against the head of his bed. He rubbed his eyes again in disbelief, and Lin Nuan hadn’t vanished.
He sat on his bed in a daze, and after some time, he stretched out his tiny stubby finger to poke Lin Nuan’s arm.
She was real, and the warm sensation made him tear up. He had unspoken grievances and couldn’t help but shrivel his lips in silence.
Tuan Tuan wiped away his tears with his sleeve and came down from the bed. His little feet tiptoed clumsily as he tried to cover Lin Nuan with his blanket.
Lin Nuan wasn’t in a deep sleep, and Tuan Tuan’s movements earlier had already woken her up. Her eyes opened…
She lowered her gaze and saw that Tuan Tuan’s chubby hands were trying with difficulty to pull the covers over her.
Touched, she gripped Tuan Tuan’s hand. “You are awake,” she said.
Seeing that Lin Nuan was awake, Tuan Tuan’s eyes welled up with tears again. He nodded, looking at Lin Nuan with his big teary eyes as he tried to hold back tears.
Lin Nuan took the blanket from Tuan Tuan. She crouched beside him, gently rubbing his head and said, “Thank you…”
Tuan Tuan cheered up considerably, and a slow smile worked its way across his chubby face.
“Your father won’t be back tonight as he is busy. Why don’t I accompany you?” Lin Nuan asked softly while putting the covers back on the bed.
Tuan Tuan’s mood lightened immediately, and his big and bright eyes radiated with charm. He stretched out his arms towards Lin Nuan, wanting to be carried.
“Groowwwlll…”
He hadn’t eaten anything since the afternoon. Tuan Tuan covered his belly with his hands in a bid to mask the sounds. Shuffling his feet sheepishly, he lowered his head like a naughty child caught in the act.
“Groowwwlll…”
His tummy was growling again. Tuan Tuan bowed his head in embarrassment.
“How about some tomato egg noodles? You were asleep and didn’t get to try them last time. I will prepare it for you now, okay?” Lin Nuan asked as she grabbed Tuan Tuan by the arms and lifted him up.
Tuan Tuan nodded his head vigorously and answered loudly in his cute and kiddish voice, “Okay!”

In the living room, Fu Tianci had ordered some takeaway. The likes of pizza, potato chips, and other snacks and drinks covered the dining table.
He crossed his legs and sat on the sofa with a tablet propped up on his left knee and a pizza box on the right. Holding on to a half-eaten piece of pizza with one hand, he was enjoying a movie that was playing on the tablet.
