Who Knows
Luke didn’t retort. It was obvious now that Alec, indeed, had prepared himself.
“Grandpa, why did he come even though he knew we would attack him? Isn’t that just asking for
trouble?”
He couldn’t figure out why Alec would do something like that. What was the point?
“He is clever. He would not do something to endanger his life on purpose unless he had a reason.”
Zeke understood that about Alec.
Luke only understood half of it. “What reason?”
“I don’t know yet.” Zeke frowned. He hadn’t figured it out.
Luke changed the topic. “Who killed my father? The surviving bodyguards said a group of people
rushed in and started firing. They were chaotic.”
“Yes. It was chaos.” Even the Fausts had chosen to assassinate Alec in the mountains. They were not
as arrogant as Xavier’s killers, who seemed to disregard consequences.
Zeke stared into the distance, deep in thought. Luke was upset. “Are we going to take this lying down?
We have to avenge my father, don’t we?”
“Lying down?” Zeke smiled coldly. “They killed my son. Do they think the Fausts are going to just let it
go?”
Luke felt better when Zeke said that. They were going to turn Bardoff City inside out. By hook or by
crook, they would find that group of killers.
“Tell me. Who would the mastermind be?” Zeke looked at Luke.
Luke was stunned. He couldn’t think of a suspect. With the situation the Fausts were in, no one should
have the guts to attack them.
He shook his head. Zeke was not angry. He smiled, saying, “We’ll have to observe who benefits the
most from this.”
“My uncle…” Luke said instinctively. Then, he clamped his mouth and looked at Zeke cautiously.
“That’s possible. However, I don’t think he has the ability.” If Yakov had a team of henchmen like that,
he needn’t worry about being the next heir.
Luke thought that made sense. Yakov was not a charming person. There was no way he’d have so
many supporters. If he did, Xavier and Zeke would have found out at once.
Luke couldn’t think of anyone else at the moment. “I can’t figure it out. I can’t think of anyone who
would do a thing like this.”
“What about Alec?” Zeke asked.
Luke was shocked. “Alec? Does he have an ability like that?”
“Who knows? I think he’s the greatest benefactor of your father’s death. You are all rivals, to begin
with.” Zeke felt that Alec definitely had something to do with it.
Luke didn’t think it was realistic. “But this time, he didn’t have the time to do it.”
“We were just wondering why he would agree to your invitation despite knowing the danger ahead.
What if he was creating an alibi for himself?” Zeke was, after all, a living fossil. He had reasons for his
analysis.
Luke was shocked. “So, you mean…*
“It’s not impossible. Look at all his preparations. Why would he come if he hadn’t already thought of
this? Why would he prepare ahead?” Zeke smiled bitterly. He couldn’t help wishing that Alec was his
grandson, not Zachary’s. That way, he wouldn’t be so stressed about the next heir.
What a pity that such a brilliant man was not his own.
